Updating the CWCki

We're trying to get the Homos article, and related pages, up to date.

Any suggestions? We're thinking of merging, and maybe reducing, some of the sections, like the ones under Past homophobia. Some newer stuff should be added, too - like, Chris's Wikipedia study of tribbing and bonobo monkeys seems absent from those pages.

It is worth adding the recent revelation that Chris still has discomfort with pickles, and seems to still suffer intrusive thoughts to the point of feeling the need to see lesbian porn..

Someone added Pmurt and Lady Managers as sagas, are these sagas officially sagas now or not?

When Chris was still talking about Pmurt, there was discussion over whether it should be a saga entry and the consensus was no. However, now that Chris is done with it, someone added it as a saga, and I agree as it's similar in content to Chris's reaction to Adam Stackhouse, who has a saga entry.

I think Lady Managers should be included as they're the trolls after Catherine and seemed to influence Chris for a while.

Though I should mention that the CWCki only has a few active contributors, so changes like that are being decided based on what one or two people think.

Lately, I've been adding a shitload of new CWC-isms onto the CWC-isms page and most of them weren't even that recent. A lot of them have been uttered by Chris ages ago.

I've heard it said as "kettle of fish". Plus, I've googled the term "kettle of corn" to make sure this wasn't just some old timey jargon he picked up from his parents, and all I got were links leading to pages related to kettle corn. You might be right, though.

Do you think we should keep it? It sounds pretty funny when Chris says stuff like this.

It's down because the intersection between php-fpm and nginx and low memory VPSes sucks and I just outright stopped trying to debug the problem months ago, if not a year ago.

I'm fine with php-fpm crashing once in awhile due to low memory. If every 600 page requests returns a 502 error, but a refresh brings up the page anyway, that's a solid amount of performance considering what I pay for the server.

But that's not what happens. php-fpm will crash, but it goes into this retarded limbo mode where it doesn't restart automatically. That means I need to manually restart it. I've tried various solutions, including an automatic script from my desktop at home to check every ten minutes and try to restart it remotely. None of those solutions are great, and really I just wish the process would die properly. Just fucking die. Because if it dies, the system will restart it and there won't be an issue. (In fact, I've got a reverse proxy setup going with nginx, with a backup process, and if implemented properly, people won't even see the single 502 error I mentioned above. It'll just proxy to the backup process while the first process is restarting.)

Like I said, I stopped trying to deal with this a long time ago.

Just google 502 error, php-fpm and nginx. Other people have this issue too. But they aren't hosting the cwcki and don't need to pay for it with bitcoin. So they can probably "solve" it by paying for a bigger VPS.

So yeah, when I go out of town (I'm at magfest, drinking myself stupid(er) this weekend), expect to go without the cwcki for a bit. Sorry about that. I just restarted it now because I checked the cwcki in my hotel room just now.

Recovering from a hangover. Btw blowfish is a great product. It gets Marvin's coveted "partying with random nerds (and some kiwis!)" seal of approval.

Someone, in the future when the cwcki cakes its pants, link them to this post.

PS: bahaha, there's a diversity panel here. It's entitled "yes this is a diversity 101 panel, yes you still need it"
