Updating the CWCki

One thing to think about is that in the earlier days "conflict of interest" wasn't really an issue because Chris trolling was gate-kept pretty strongly. Weens would occasionally sneak in, but it didn't matter, for example, that Clyde was a CWCki editor while also trolling Chris. Nowadays there's less control of him, and he's gotten involved in these Discord servers where he can get caught up in sprawling gayops.

Now that Sean Walker was outed, shouldn't we change the description of Watchmen in CWCki from "protection group" to "ween group"?

I think the more accurate descrption of them, from what I can see at least, is that they started off as a "protection group", but many of its members devolved into weenery, especially people like Sean and MKR, who were deluded as all hell. However, the group was also made up of people that were bitter towards one another, especially between Sean and MKR. This meant that the group splintered a bunch of times, and everyone was at each other's necks over Chris.

Dumb question but is there any reason why the wiki is self hosted and not at least backed up to a platform like Miraheze to help archive this content without relying on hosts?
Does Mirahaze have the power to shut down wikis hosted there? Because if they do that's a potential issue.

CWCki seems to be down at the moment
Sometimes it goes down, I think there's a monthly bandwidth limit. I have a workaround if I desperately need to view the Dymaxion Chronofile of an insane manchild. It's not too hard.

1. Open a tab for archive.org.
2. Open another tab for DuckDuckGo or whatever your favorite search engine is.
3. Type CWCki and then whatever you want to look up.
4. Instead of clicking the link, right click on it, copy the URL, and paste it into the archive.org tab.
5. Archive.org will give a range of dates, like "Saved 253 times between November 12, 2010 and November 27, 2021." Click the later date.

Now you can read a fairly recent version of the article. It's a little slow and you can't see all the images in high resolution but it'll probably get what you need.

RIP, I liked the site
Doesn't @Marvin own it?

I mean, the site is probably still there on the server and IP, sonichu.com just no longer points to it canonically. It's like someone changing your phone number in the phone book (for those who remember those). Your old phone number still works it's just nobody can look you up by name.

Old IP is 103.114.191.132. Added that to my hosts file and it worked just fine.

Thanks. It's nice and fast too, thanks to less stuff hitting the server.

EDIT: Hopefully whoever manages the domain renews it quick before it goes on the open market (most registrars give you a grace period after expiry to get your domain back for small fee, usually about a month).

The good news is it never seems to have been used for any MX records, so the biggest risk from losing a domain (recovery email addresses) doesn't seem to be an issue.

EDIT2: @PsychoNerd054 I see you awarded a post in the thread. You're a mod on the cwcki so I assume you know how to get ahold of whoever manages the domain registration?

Confirmed.

Since the hosting is still up, this is probably just an administrative matter of waiting for a check to clear or switching registrars or the like combined with bad timing renewing over new years weekend when everyone's either off work or hung over. Then there's the propagation delay as it works its way through the DNS server tree…

I'll give it a week before I start worrying.

Yep, nothing to it once you have the IP address, glad you had that Dak. 👍

I don't visit the cwciki a ton, but it's damn nice to have it there when you need to look up a certain obscure artifact of christory.
