Hello. I had some thoughts about US coins and banknotes and I thought this would be a good place to talk about them, their designs, and implementation.

I guess I'll get started.

$1 Coins

So does anyone else think that America should make another serious attempt at implementing $1 coins? I think it might be a cool idea as long as you could get people to use them. I was told that coins last much longer than banknotes, so the government would get more bang for it's buck with $1 coins than with $1 banknotes. Maybe if the government mandated that all newly-manufactured vending machines and laundromat laundry machines have to be able to accept $1 coins and they actually stick to their roll out for more than a few years, than maybe would could get this to work.

I also think that, if new $1 coins are made they should recreate the old Eisenhower design, but smaller. Just pick one design and stick to it. We don't need 47 presidents (Taft is counted twice), Sacagawea, and Susan B. Anthony. If we want this scheme to work, then we should just have one design and allow the old designs to exit circulation and become collector's items (this would probably take decades).

50 cent coins and $2 coins

On the subject of new coins, do you think that we could benefit from having a new 50 cent and $2 coin? Who do you think should be on them? We have had a 50 cent coin in the past that hand Benjamin Franklin on it.

$20 bill

Who should go on it if we get rid of Jackson?

Braille

I think that all US bank notes should have braille text or some other security feature on them that makes it easier for blind people to figure out what they are holding. Other countries have implemented this and I guess it would be another hoop for counterfeiters to jump through.

What is this, some kind of attempt at Canadian subversion? Nice try, commie.

Yes it might make sense to make more use of coins like other countries do, they're more durable, they pick up fewer germs; however, it would also make sense to use metric like everyone else.
We don't do that though, because pigheadedness even in the face of logic or reason is part of American culture and I'll be damned if I use coins like some limp wristed ninny. How would you even fit those in a man's wallet? Would you pelt strippers with $1 hunks of metal?

It would be bad to get rid of Jackson on the $20 bill, not in current climate. You'd probably wind up with fucking Rosa Parks on it or something gay like that.

Idk what's up with the braille though, how do you put bumps on a soft note made of linen/cotton? Puzzling.

From my times visiting Canada, all of the loonies and toonies I end up with as change is a bitch to carry around. My pocket ends up with so many coins it's a literal pain in the ass.

Vertical designs for bills have really grown on me. I like this proposal.

I believe that blind people in the US can use a device like this one to stamp braille onto their bills, but I think it would be better if they didn't have to. I don't know if this could be implemented on an industrial scale (I read that this is what is done with the Euro, but I don't know if would work with the Dollar, since I don't know the exact physical makeup of both banknotes), but we could add a plastic strip into our banknotes and have braille on that.

You're probably right, but if you could pick someone who would it be? I think that Eisenhower would be a good choice (and he might even be viable in current year given that he fought against Nazi Germany and protected the Little Rock Nine).

Well, I guess you got a point there. They are a bit more difficult to carry than banknotes and I'm don't think that going so far as to force wallet manufacturers to change their designs would do much to fix this problem.
