ValiDate - an upcoming (and unsurprisingly racist) visual novel made by SJW's, for SJW's. Currently MIA.

That might have something to do with the devs proudly crowing about how there's no white people. Or the fact that a ludicrous stretch goal that's only there as a joke is saying they'll add a white person in.

So the game might not be 'about' race, in that the characters only talk like they're writing articles for The Root. But it's certainly designed to emphasise that there's only non-whites, and it's disingenuous, if predictable, that they're trying to deny the importance of one of the only reasons the game exists in the first place.
They literally had “a white person in the game” as a kickstarter perk, how tf did they expect people not to think this is race based?

"...this game isn't about race"

>Makes a polarizing game that caters ONLY to POC
>Constantly talks about how inclusive the game is with the character design and it being made for that audience
>Creates characters that are such a minority, other minorities wouldn't even recognize them
>Every character's features are cartoonishly exaggerated.

PICK ONE. Do you care or not?

Which one is? The last time I checked most VN kickstarters didn't have goals to add in white characters.

they gave the black girl a chicken hat, and made another black character work at a fried chicken joint. im surprised there's not a black character dressed as a watermelon.
Her beanie thing is meant to be a goldfish I think, based on a fish symbol on her character bio. Still, I wouldn't be surprised what with all this going so woke it flips into being a stereotype deal everyone has going for them.

I won't be surprised if this misses cultural diversity as an constant theme. For such an international cast, they all feel American, to me.

That's the problem with these kinds of games. They feel samey because it's being made by like-minded people who all seem to believe that these characters would act in a like-minded manner. This is DESPITE the cultural differences and values that each character would develop over the course of their lives. I need to stress that these aren't teenagers trying to find themselves, these are fully-developed adults with their own values being pretty much grounded by this point unless stated otherwise or planning to change throughout the game. There would be some cultural clash with American culture and the character's own cultural values dealing with the dating world.

However, from what we see, every character is written like a stereotypical, American young adult. From the dialogue, to the clothing, the inner thoughts of the protag (though this is at least more excusable as it's a self-insert), it screams American. You can tell that the devs struggle understanding those cultural differences on a universal level (keep in mind I say universal and not personal here) and any diversity they tried to include kind of gets watered down when everyone blends in together. Again, reading the article, it really feels like they couldn't decide if this game would tackle the issues of race in dating or just being a normal dating sim with a diverse cast. This mix-match does not work.

Which all could be solved by a few trips to an sufficient library and interviewing people.

The ethnic combos are so ridiculous that it looks like they just tried to cram in as many ethnicities as possible without having to create a gazillion characters. Also, everyone is brown despite race and the devs don't understand nationality is not the same as race. There's almost nothing relatable to the average person here.

They should have made something more attuned to the American experience.

They went a little too all out with the diversity. But they seemed to have forgotten that you need more than appearances to make it convincing. They probably think "brown people can't be racist so anything we write is just fine".

The worst beating I have ever witnessed IRL was 3 black dudes going to town on a gay black man. It was on public transportation, through several rough areas of the city (ofc).
It was a Sat evening, late. The gay male entered the subway car, dressed stylishly, but distinctly gay. Slacks, pointed dress shoes, white 2x breasted blazer with black piping, some crystal broach on the lapel, eyeliner, lipstick, mascara. The 3 men approached the gay with questioning jabs and taunts. Apparently they learned the word 'gaylord' which they used to taunt the gay: "gay...Lord", "GAY, LORD!"... This went on for 2-5 minutes, until the car lurched sending the gay slightly closer to the other men. They used this opportunity to quickly elbow-drive him into the ground, then beat him senseless and bloody until the next stop (where the 3 escaped). The other passengers and myself escaped into the other cars, giving them the privacy they desired.

No one understands the deep hatred that Urban Blacks feel for the outwardly gay or (god forbid) tranny POC. They will kill on sight, not even joking. Urban Blacks consider gay and tranny a true threat to their community. Worse than weapons (which they carry and trade), worse than drugs (which they consume and sell). There are lessons here.

1% San Fransisco Trust-Fund babies don't understand this, regardless of skin-color.

I talked with a coworker who was a lighter skinned black. Like so light skinned he needed his cousins to come and get him from outside of the neighborhood and escort him if he wanted to visit his aunt. He talked about a local gay kid who ended up beaten into a coma because he crossed the street when he saw a group of black teens on the sidewalk.

According to my coworker, the gay kid was going to get beaten anyway, but crossing the street was disrespecting that group of teens, so instead of just leaving him bruised and all of his stuff destroyed, they had to completely annihilate him.

I remember my mother telling me if I was ever gay, not to be openly gay when we visited to Jamaica on multiple occasions because the police would not help you. They'd just stand their and let people beat you up if you looked the part.

All these characters of different races and nationalities just feel really haphazard when put together. And it's not like these people don't exist, but it never feels cohesive. Especially considering not a lot of minorities are woke. In fact, many are pretty on the conservative side and are really petty about race mixing. And even if we assume that our self-insert is said race, doesn't care about your race, and/or is fine with everything above, you really can't explain away those cultural differences. An African American and a Kenyan and both black but I guarantee you they won't intermingle unless they have a shared interests or are forced to.

It also doesn't help that the creators chose pretty obscure ones too. They just made their lives harder now because unless you find that type of person to talk about their experiences, you barely have any material.

Because as cruel as it sounds, that guy who got beaten is an walking stereotype and the average person doesn't want to be mistaken for an homo.

Besides, the only acceptable way to catch HIV is from an hooker.

Colorism is a huge problem. I had a friend whose sister had a very light skinned, good red haired baby with a white guy. This friend told me her mom liked the baby more than her because he was light skinned. She carried the baby around all the time and doted on him while ignoring her very dark five year old son.

Definitely 'dressing gay', he probably was at the gay bars all night. He was rolling the dice taking the subway.

BTW: the subway BRIEFLY paused while a patron 1/2 carried his bloody ass off. No cops called. No arrests.
Subway rolled on...
