ValiDate - an upcoming (and unsurprisingly racist) visual novel made by SJW's, for SJW's. Currently MIA.

They're just looking for excuses to pretend the entire world is racist and against them. They would have said the gamer community is racist if they hadn't met their Kickstarter goals, and if they get a publisher now, they'll find another reason to call someone racist, like if they suddenly decide they want to have a physical release and don't get to.

Made an account upon discovering this thread, though I didn't see anybody post the dev's recent complaints so I thought I'd provide just in case

You aren't required support or success for your project. It's exactly why it's so risky making one to begin with for ANYTHING. Music, Comics, Graphic novels, illustrative works. etc. All of these are risky to make a huge investment in. Not just for yourself, but for the people who choose to put their money into it. This is one reason why making/promoting a game is extremely hard to do. There's no guarantee it will make money or that people will like it enough to buy it. There has to have some sort of appeal in order to be profitable. Regardless of how many people SAY they want to support your project, how many people can put their money where their mouth is? Very few.

These people probably saw the popularity that creators like Toby Fox and Scoot Cawthon and like many, completely disregarded the work they put into their series and how much sacrifices they had to make. And regardless of what you think of these developers or their games, there's no doubt they had to work hard to get to where they are now (with plenty mishaps along the way). Shaming people into trying to support you will get you nowhere and just pushes your audience away.

The Validate developers do not understand this. The sad reality is that many, MANY projects fall through. It doesn't matter how much money you make. You can have what you think is the best idea in the world. You can also make millions of dollars in kickstarters/indiegogos and still not have a product worth buying to a general audience. It sucks, but it's how the market works. People aren't required to buy your project so you need to convince people to buy it. If you think insulting your audience, shaming them into supporting you, and freaking out on Twitter will get you more customers, spoilers; it won't.

One of the major sins for a developer is assuming that their project is the most, wanted best-selling game to be. Visual novels are a niche genre. You already are going to have a small pool for your game. DD probably would've faded into obscurity if it wasn't for the fact they got star power for it. The two situations are not comparable. So far nothing about Validate stands out for a publisher to want to pick it up other than to look good for having a diverse cast. And honestly, that's the sad part. The game can't even stand alone on it's own merit.
