ValiDate - an upcoming (and unsurprisingly racist) visual novel made by SJW's, for SJW's. Currently MIA.

Why the fuck would anyone buy a Western VN?
I think there's a certain crowd of people who are theoretically interested in the typical dating type of VNs but they scoff at japanese VNs for what basically comes down to "Japanese VNs aren't woke enough" and there's also western writers who want to make a VN cause they just flat out think they can do a better job than japan. I've been told the Dream daddy devs were like this, though I don't have any direct proof for it.

Personally I don't really bother with most western VNs cause a lot of them either just imitate popular japanese ones without any sort of creativity or dive straight into SJW hell but the ones with stat raising mechanics such as Long live the Queen or Royal alchemist seem more interesting cause the different builds can lead to a more varied experience.

played completely straight (As far as we know, at least).

According to these folks there's not a single good thing that can come out of anything straight, so it's hard to say.

Also, I can't understand what's attractive about any of these people. Why do things always have to be sexual and physical for this crowd? I can appreciate being happy enough with yourself to accept your own appearance, but why do you have to take it to the physical and flaunt it, making it a core part of your appearance? That's not even to mention all of the obnoxious colors, hairstyles, and outfits these people have going on. The impression I get is that they're starved for attention, and any attention is good.

It's a dating game for narcissists, which inevitably these people are. Of course it's only really about attention.
Usually when you have a game featuring Orcs, ogres, goblins, and beast people is that some sort of interactive and fun form of violence is involved, not constant talking and soapboxing.

Men are somehow not important but these goons live their whole life starved for daddy's attention.

The problem is the language barrier and its really difficult to translate colloquialisms that are inherently unique to one culture into another culture. I've had people I work with from foreign countries speak better English than most Americans, but when I use euphemisms, colloquial speech and/or common English metaphors they look at me like a deer in headlights because its like I just spoke another language to them and they're having a ton of trouble translating it.

Which is why it sometimes comes off as stilted and in a lot of translated entertainment you need an asterisk to explain translated phrases that would otherwise make no sense to you. This gives shitty writers a false sense of superiority, and of course shitty writers gonna shit themselves. And the wokeness, who cares. Give me non-wokeness any day of the week.

Yeah, those are the only Japanese-inspired Western VNs I'll take a look at, because they try adding something different to it. But in general, I find Western VNs to have much uglier, inconsistent art, poorer in story, writing and choices and the length being MUCH shorter overall. I'm just glad Steam stepped back and stopped censoring content altogether.

If you want to see most of the cast, here it is.

If anyone doubts this is the spawn of Tumblr, the dot points that represent each of these people backstories are the smoking gun. They're based on Tag Yourself Memes, a low-effort Reblog-farming tactic.

Even in that context, it's an immensely stupid way to present it. The Tag yourself meme is meant to be extremely generic and relatable, like a horoscope, so it applies to the most people possible with the fewest options. Trying to turn that into a substitute for a character backstory requires making it extremely specific to the person, which ruins half the point of the bloody thing. I've also got no idea whether half of these are meant to be from the character's perspective or not.

Take Emhari Abdi, for example.

I have no idea whether these two oh-so-relatable points are meant the be her/him's views, or general statements meant to refer to them. It might be both their views, in which case they're a snippy individual but nothing too far out of dating sim land. It might be they're referring to the character from an external point, in which case they honestly a bit of a drama queen. Or it might be that one is their perspective and one is their character, because fuck consistency. You genuinely don't know.

Another one that stuck out was the Marriage Counselor who's every quote is like 'marriage is overrated and fuck romance' while secretly yearning for it. That... makes them a bad marriage counselor? Why would you have someone who hates marriage take the role of someone who is meant to help stabilize or peacefully put to rest struggling marriages? It makes them sound like they sabotage savable situations because they're lonely.

compare with a randomly-selected character sheet from Cucumber Quest:

It sneaks jokes in, it gives a sense of her personality, it introduces her pronouns (because you can just do that organically if you're not an idiot about it) it gives a sense of how she fights through her stats, and it really covers all the basics for her. And this is a webcomic, not a visual novel. It's not a good sign when the visual novel doesn't lead with their actual prose writing chops.

One of them is in there twice. One of them appears to be a bird. They all have pronouns but none of them have genders and only a couple have sexualities.

All of them sound deeply unpleasant and like a parody of the woke ideas of diversity, with added bonus ignorance of the prejudices and biases people actually from that UN of country origins they've shoved in would potentially have.

My only surprise is there isn't someone wearing a hijab. But then, I suspect that astrology is the extent of their dealings with religion.

Holy shit, $80k to have your favourite freaks be voiced, guys!! What a deal!

Oh, and apparently they need 30,000 dollars to put in CGs for EVERY route. Otherwise you will be stuck with reading a few lines of good bussy porn, lol.
"$32,000 We'll put a white person in the game"
You can feel the resentment and hatred.
