ValiDate - an upcoming (and unsurprisingly racist) visual novel made by SJW's, for SJW's. Currently MIA.

While the game may not be "for us," that does not excuse your terrible art direction. It is extremely obvious that every single one of your characters is drawn by different amateur artists, and every single one of them looks like a fashion disaster. Unless you want your game to look like a hodge-podged asset-flip, I suggest getting better character artists and designers. If you truly cared about your project, you would take our criticisms to heart and use them to improve your game.

As for holding the "bad ones accountable," it's not my job to play janny. While there are many users on this forum that I personally disagree with, I cannot and will not do anything more than give them a bad sticker. Unlike the bubble-wrapped echo chambers you're used to visiting, Kiwi Farms is a free speech platform. Many things said on here will offend you. If you are not emotionally mature enough to handle disagreements, I suggest going back to ResetERA where everyone gets banned at the drop of a hat for stepping a single toe out of line from the moderators' opinions, as you'd likely be far more comfortable there.

To Quote Yahtzee "Let's all laugh at an industry that never learns anything teeheehee" And if you can't take the jokes you surely have a miserable life. I learned that myself as well.

The most shameful thing is that there are dozens of professional quality VNs with beautiful art and characters that are even voiced fully. Many for free.

You can just scroll through them on Itch.io and see how crazy it is that this bunch is acting like they're doing a service to humanity with their awful one-dimensional caricatures of millenial stereotypes.

Apparently, they don't have a demo....yet. But the trailer that they showed is kind of terrible. Like saying that someone is an Twitch thot and the fat nb guy being offended over something dumb.

Since they can’t even afford to pay their artists, I don’t think they can even pay to keep their team assembled for much longer.
You ain't wrong. I'm going to farm more rainbows and say I hope we at least get a demo, I need to see what kind of brilliant writing goes on and if they can spin a kickstarter campaign to be "donate to us because we're black and america is racist right now".

I'm sure Nohua is still checking in on us every now and then so I'll bite.

We have these neat little stickers here on the farms. Ratings. That's the way we "hold the bad ones accountable", our own way of public shaming when someone is out of line, but that's the most one can do. There are plenty of little shitheads of every flavor of phobe that run around the site, especially on boards like A&H, but a lot of us, perhaps even an inordinate number of kiwis here are LGBT, and that's probably because it's an anonymous safe haven away from the community when it refuses to hold people accountable.

Yeah, there is a price for this freedom. You get used to it, you roll your eyes and move on. Thanks Jersh.

Anyways now that that's out of the way. I don't think the problem with the game is so much that it's diverse, it's that everyone, with the exception of the afro-korean girl, is just...their whole thing is "sassy and mean" with a side of millennial twitter memes that will be outdated in a matter of months.

Even the designs aren't terrible IMO (Remember that Catherine fanart? I thought that was cute.) it's more that they're all very incongruent and not presented in an appealing manner. A lot of the art used is/has...
  • underdeveloped painterly style
  • poor color choice
  • combines cartoon features with realism in an unpleasant manner
  • too over/under detailed to place next to other portraits
  • put too much detail into #valid features and really makes them more visually unappealing than they are in real life
  • does not accurately represent ethnic background, for example Anoki not looking Sioux and more like a character from Moana.
Another problem with the incongruence is that it makes some characters look like caricatures when placed next to character portraits drawn with more/less realistic facial proportions. For example, Yolanda's smaller eyes look tiny and kinda racist when she is placed next to characters drawn in styles with a different eye:face ratio.

In my humble O, I think what would be best for the project would be for the artists to work closer. Collaborate, have most acting as designers rather than portrait artists. For marketability/brand recognition I'd say the best option for the portrait artist(s) would be those behind Alonzo, Malik, and Rocky. It's not that the other artists aren't competent, but these are the ones that stand out most from the crowd and would help establish a consistent and relatively unique art style for the game.

Coincidentally (or not), none of the three characters are hambeasts or genderspecials.

(I have to admit I like Emhari's clothes. But the cartoon villain fake stache and the goddamn cowpie hair have to go, obviously.)
