Valve introduces Steam Deck

With this thing you can knock people unconscious with.
I'll stay with my old Switch. It's at least not as chunky and heavy as this thing looks.
Still, I may look again into it once the price went down and common hardware and software issues are known.

Still waiting on Alienware's UFO device, Rumors say it might release around the same time when the Steam Deck does, I like to see how these 2 go toe to toe

If history is anything to go by, this will fail.

Somehow they will make a dumb decision or fail to capture the same sort of magic that Nintendo does. And this will fail. The concept of making a handheld PC is already pretty unsteady on its feet. The controls are not going to be adequate. Can you expand the memory with a SD/microSD card?

I dunno, the Gaming Laptop market is strong enough to have several corporations manufacture for it.

The best news about this is it sends the message to Microsoft that if they fuck up Windows 11 PC Gamers could start leaving for Linux.

Just build your own PC at this point.
The PC building market's been in shambles for nearly a year now due to a lot of different factors, most notably cryptocurrencies booming until around May; a global microchip shortage; and China having sweeping brownouts. Video cards are still selling for around 3x what they're worth, and even older mid-high end used ones from about 2016 onward could be flipped for more than they were bought for new. Its all left PC gaming in a very weird place.

Looks interesting, but history has shown that going up against Nintendo handhelds will always end up in failure. Probably will pick one up when it goes on sale a year or 2 after launch.

I looked at the spec sheet. This monster is 669 grams. For comparison, an OG Switch with the joycons on is 400 grams. This is 40% heavier than an OG Switch, which by itself I would consider heavy.

It also has a 16:10 aspect ratio display, which is a really strange choice and it'll introduce black bands in a lot of games. OLED is fine for black bands, but it's very irritating on a LCD display.

In terms of power, it's 2/5 to 1/2 as powerful as an Xbox Series S. And the battery life is slated for 2 to 8 hours, 2 hours of battery life on the lower end!

Who the hell asked for this console PC monster?

RIP Vita, taken too soon through the sheer incompetence of Sony on all levels. Seeing that size comparison I can only guess how uncomfortable that'd be for longer gaming sessions.

Man, imagine dropping this beast and the impact it'd cause if it's built like a brick rather than the junk that explodes from light damage. Imagine your poor foot taking that.

64GB in 2021, some of the bigger games wouldn't even fit on that now. Is it cloud based or some shit?
A lot of those “bigger” games just have huge uncompressed 4k textures that most people don’t even really need. Sure, 4k is nice, but do you need it? No. And do you need uncompressed sound files from a dozen languages? No.

If Valve pressures the right movers and shakers, we could see file sizes shrink and/or be more modular. You should determine if you want those 4k textures, or if you’re fine with regular textures. Especially for this portable SteamOS box, which in my opinion is really for plane rides and such.
