Xlibre is definitely showing results on the Staem Deck
 
One of the main reasons (the other being cost and utility) why I don't have a Steam Deck is I'm just to apprehensive about the weight. My retro handhold of choice, the 3DS, is much heavier than the Game Boy Advance SP. My hands are bigger and my eyes worse than when the GBA SP was my bestest friend years ago, but its light form factor made playing handheld games fun.
The deck really isn't very heavy. I've never had to stop playing a game because my arms were getting tired. I've got a New 3DS XL and a deck and they both feel similar in weight to me. I can obviously tell the deck is heavier, but if you asked me how much, I wouldn't be able to tell you. Couple ounces, maybe? It's negligible. I was actually surprised how similar they felt given how gigantic the deck is. That's the thing that stops me from bringing it places, really. You'd look like an idiot playing your gigantic steam deck at a park or whatever.

I wouldn't ever recommend trying to play warioware twisted on that thing unless you want to end up with a novel form of wrist damage.

Have you considered playing it on a phone? A modern phone weighs pretty much the same as an SP, especially if you get a smaller one.
 
Is anyone else having problems running GoG games with Heroic Launcher? At first, it stopped taking inputs from the controller then the games just straight up crash now. I tried looking through their GitHub, but was directed to contact the team via Discord and I'm not gonna do that.

Sorry I never used Heroic since IMHO it seems redundant when Steam is right there,

Whenever I need to install and run a GoG game I just use Proton. I add the installer as a "non-Steam game" and run it like any other executable and even install it outside of the SteamLibrary folder and into a default "GOG Games" folder alongside it, then I add the game's executable and a compatibility tool and it works 95% of the time. No crashes or input issues of any kind.

If for whatever reason I encounter that rare 5% that doesn't work then I use Bottles, which lets you install games individually or even has the option to install GOG Galaxy and Epic Game Store through the "Install program..." tab.
 
Steam Deck 2 will be a huge improvement with this baked into it. It's gonna set the trends again for PC handhelds. It would also do better if it can run windows dual boot too officially. Much better 'xbox' than the other options out there.
Valve will feel more pressure to launch a Steam Deck 2 as their high-end Steam Deck OLED options start to lag further behind competitors with the latest off-the-shelf APUs.

Using a custom chip with a good balance of CPU and GPU helped them the first time. They could do that again, or use something off the ever-expanding shelf of APU options.

I think they need something by the time Zen 6 APUs become available. "Medusa Halo Mini", a leaked APU which would be the spiritual successor to Strix Point, could work:

But that could use more power than they want, and it still has more CPU cores than is needed. As few as 4-6 Zen 6c or Zen 6 LP cores are all that's needed to deliver a nice boost over quad-core Zen 2 (3.5 GHz max).

Either way, they could end up with RDNA5, giving them FSR4, "Redstone", and likely FSR5+ support.

I think Valve will keep the focus on SteamOS unless they enter into a big deal with Microsoft to do something different. Microsoft seems poised to allow Steam and competing gaming storefronts on Xbox apps and devices without a deal being struck, because they will become irrelevant otherwise.

Love that the steam controller has magnetic joystick, but the steam machine not getting delayed for a RDNA 4 gpu is a bummer, raytracing is going to be ass and no true FSR 4 support. As longs as its actually less than $600 though i guess it would be cool.

Not really, but steam products are one of the LAST bastions of items that I can get fucking excited and hyped over.

I'm so glad they made another.

So, basically the only thing that hasn't been revived is the steam link. Happy the controller is back, loved the first one but had to stop using it since it just stopped working properly with new games.
 
Happy they didn't give up on the Steam Machine idea. I had one of the Alienware ones and that fucker got me through my last year of college when my expensive Laptop shit the bed. Very much looking forward to this and with Microsoft giving up it'd be cool if Valve comes in as the next big player in the hardware scene.
 
From my crosspost, I'm only worried about a possible VRAM issue for the (new) Steam Machine:
Digital Foundry has a video on it.
It looks good for a home style console that runs SteamOS (Arch); it's more or less a slightly less powerful XSX/PS5.
My only worry is that it has 8gb vram; which some games struggle with now (ie Monster Hunter Wilds at 1080p). Hopefully they have a way that the vram can be shared with the system (something similar to unified memory that macs use), or eventually release a 16gb vram version.
