Vampyr

I haven't played it. I was half interested because of the studios connection with Life is Strange but I also think vampires are kinda gay.

Is the gameplay similar to LiS? What makes it good in your opinion? I really want to believe it's good. :c I can usually ignore bad endings...

Combat is rough, like a little clunky and mobs will gang rape you, but the story build up is amazing. Never played LIS, but it's a great short game (beat it in like 12 hours). There's so many side quests. You have the choice to feed off people and such. Upgrade weapons ECT.

Definitely different game play then. Life is Strange is pretty good but kind of girly-ish. It's far more of an emotional story based on choice and consequence rather than any combat but it's plot is pretty fucking stunning.

I'll definitely look into Vampyr more. Relieved it doesn't sound like shit, I was worried.

So, does the protagonist just happen to get turned into a vampire, or did was he turned because "it was his destiny" and "he was the chosen one"?

Main character is a doctor who was attacked.

umm... i know i'm pretty bad at wording abstract concepts at times, but uh

...that doesn't really answer the question

Was he a doctor that just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, or was it "fate" for this doctor to be turned into a vampire? Is he merely a cog in the machine and a smaller part of a greater story, or is he like the Dovahkiin from Skyrim "whose destiny it is to slay the dragon Alduin"?

Once again, sometimes I can be very unclear with certain concepts. I just want to know whether it's a "chosen one" type of story or not so I know what to expect.

Sorry, it's late here and I was half asleep. Yeah, when I said attacked I meant wrong place wrong time kind of thing.

Massive plot spoilers

He was a doctor born/ chosen to solve the Vampire Epidemic, you find out a doctor you worked with made a fatal error using vampire blood to try to cure influenza. The vampire blood causes a massive mutation in the virus, causing people to start looking like bloaters from the last of us. The game ends really shitty, you basically make an antidote, kill the boss and the guy who made you a vampire tells the boss you kill to fuck off. Basically after that it's game over. There's an extra part before the credits that tells you more about patient zero, but other than that, it's such a shitty ending to a great game. There's no plans for DLC, just due to how this game ends, I would recommend you get it on sale or rent it.

The side quests in this game are great though, you can judge this guy based on his skin color. There's also a first wave feminist in this game (takes place in 1917). There's an indian guy that's a grave robber and sells shit. There's a guy who has his face burned off in war and you can tell him how horrible he looks. It's a classic game, you can play the game as a total douchebag and I love it.

I've got it. I've been trying to be all nicey-nicey and not nom people willy nilly and as a result I'm a wee bit underlevelled right now.

But then again, if I nom characters with side quests to give I'll cut off those. Decisions, decisions.

Given the XP you get for nomming civilians to death, it's almost like the game wants you to be a total barsteward.

It also does take a lot of inspiration from VTM almost to the level of having serial numbers filed off - Skals are basically Nosferatu what with disfigurement and living in the sewers, Volkod are Gangrel or possibly Tzimisce with their ability to take on a monster form as their game face, Jonathan Reid, an Ekon, is clearly Lasombra with his abilities to command shadows, super strength himself, and charm others corresponding to their clan disciplines of Obtenebration, Potence, and Domination; while some of the foreign vamps in the West End seem to be more Brujah leaning with their rebel-without-a-clue persona and super strength and super speed, sorry, Potence and Celerity. The Ascalon Club are sort of the local chapter of the Camarilla and the big bad is so clearly an Antediluvian stand in it's painful.

Quite good but feels very empty. I think if they had more named characters wandering the streets and fewer mooks it would feel less empty.

Thats why I returned it. It has a good premise and there hasnt been a solid vampire game in ages. Buuut it tried to be not-vtm so hard it boomeranged around and became vtm-lite, without any charm or reason why things are.

Either the devs bit off more than they could chew with an ambitious title or just settled for less and half-assed it.

Im leaning towards the latter, whole thing felt overwhelmingly lazy.

It's made by the Life Is Strange devs so given that the developers have zero experience making a game with actual gameplay beyond picking dialogue strings and crating a narrative beyond two lesbians discussing their periods it's not a bad effort.
