Vampyr

Okay, this is a thing that exists.

I have to say, the last thing I expected in 1918 London is a vampire incel.

doing a zero NPC murder run first, then I'm gonna do a second play through where I'm the lord of the god damn night.
And I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thought the major plot revelations of the late game were dumb as shit.

Why is Merlin a fucking vampire?

It's really fun, I'm playing it now. I can't help but get my Kiwi propaganda sensors in a knot sometimes, tho - there's a lot of socjus in the game but I'm enjoying it overall so I'm trying to use it as an opportunity to not see demons in the woodwork all the time and just have fun instead. The way the story is revealed is awfully nice.

I enjoy almost everything about the game, except how horribly bad the balance is. If you try to be a pacifist, you will get the shit absolutely stomped out of you on a regular basis with unavoidable boss fights. Oh, you spent your points on being stealthy? Well too fucking bad nerd, here comes a freight train with fangs to whip your ass. It's like the pre-patched Deus Ex Human Revolution in that way, where the gameplay lets you do sneaky and clever stuff, then forces you into boss fights where only brute force matters.

I've been able to cope with the relatively mild propaganda, the only thing that struck me at the time was one nurse demanding to know whether I felt her gender made her less competent at her job. "Gender" as a word for sex was not in use until like 1950, so it's not the word she should have used in 1918. That one anachronism aside, and the weird incel journal posted above, nothing's rocked my boat while playing. There's a couple of gay dudes, but they're keeping it a secret and just trying to get by in a time when everyone would be an asshole to them, it's not like Mass Effect Andromeda and "HELLO I AM TRANS PERSON I WAS A DUDE NICE TO MEET YOU TOTAL STRANGER". I'm perfectly cool with attention being given to poor treatment of women, gay people, and browner people, as long as it's handled in a manner that isn't completely ham-fisted.

What I'm trying to say is that being exposed to the unfortunate truth of things so often (here and in the world at large) has made me overly sensitive to stuff like the insertion of agendas into popular media. I understand what you're getting at. I guess I liked the characters but the ideology seemed shoehorned in sometimes, perhaps you don't feel that way. Its cast struck me as a parade of archetypes and vaguely patronizing.

What about Aloysius Dawson, the "soulless rich man" who wants to "Build a Wall"?
That shit isn't heavy handed garbage?

This game has grown on me massively, I'm into chapter 2, near the 3rd, and I've thrown caution to the wind.
I had to make the evil industrialist who wants to build a wall into an immortal and kill off lots of plebs.
I'll do a jesus run, next.
