I thought they shut down at some point in the late 2000s. I’m surprised to see that they were even around after that.

I think I abandoned Veoh for VeeHD and Stagevu. This is like reading that Lycos the dog committed suicide. The last time I can recall having used Veoh was when looking for an upload of Withnail and I to stream for company in May of 2010. I ended up finding it on Youtube (along with It Couldn't Happen Here); and forgot about Veoh until this moment.

Well guess if you want to archive anything now would be the time, almost two decades worth of videos, almost all of it shit but easy downloading and tiny file sizes on older shit.
Edited to say don't forget your Internet hygiene if you do.

I don't think I've ever heard of veoh, I guess it's possible I have but just forgot about it long ago. You can tell it has been around for a long time, I clicked on the pickup (popular?) videos on the front page which were mostly watchmojo content and they were all old, one was uploaded 17 years ago. Almost all of the comments were spam. I think 17 years ago I was just using youtube and google video.

it's kind of a shame how video sites have all entirely collapsed to the Google/YouTube monopoly. Back in the day everybody hated YouTube and said it sucked shit compared to tons of other ones that are all mostly gone and lost to time now. the total centralization of the internet has been a strange and slightly sad thing to witness over the years.

Money and connections. If you don't have either you can't survive. Even FFShrine survived, despite you know.. The owner who you can read about here.

edit: damn it really did die.

totallyveoh.pngI'll be damned. Veoh is the site I first saw a video Let's Play on... what, 20 years ago? Don't even remember who the player was or the name of the game, just that it was a top-down 16-bit kind of Legend of Zelda thing and he bailed before finishing it and I was annoyed.

You know what? I'm going to go watch a random LP video on Veoh for old times' sake.

(Searches, picks random one.)

Why does this Veoh page have an embedded Youtube video?

dude sincerely THANK YOU because I have been racking my brain for something like 2 years now trying to remember the name Stagevu. I have a jellyfin server set up to watch movies on any TV in my house and ive been going through and updating old files I downloaded years and years ago of random movies and shows and I couldn't find a better copy of the English dub of this terrible old kung fu movie I have in like 240p and my girl asked me where I even found it and I couldn't remember the name of the site but I've racked my brain because the question has lived rent free I could see the homepage in my minds eye and not the fucking name.

I used to find awful subtitled versions of Asian movies on there and episodes of cartoons and camrips of terminator salvation and shit. by the end there was like a broken homepage with an unplayable Team Fortress 2 video always up there. I liked using it because the videos were always downloadable and in DivX and I had like the last vcr/dvd combo ever and it had a USB port and could play those files off a flash drive long before I ever had a smart tv so I could skip the middle man of DVD burning.

outside of pirating shit though I was a blip.tv guy. watched a lot of cinema snob and scripted let's plays when that was a thing.
