Vermintide II - AKA the charlie kelly experience

If a mod edits the thread name, yeah sure. As someone that just started vermintide, what's the appeal for darktide outside of the 40K theming?

Fucking hell took them long enough

Versus is out in Alpha for anyone to play on the main game. It's decent if you ask me, still needs some obvious improvements but I had fun

On a side note I wonder if they'd ever consider putting these little shits into the game

This is a Fatshark creation. Are we in for Vermintide 3: Age of Sigmar Edition after Darktide seemingly was a big fat L?

I don't pay attention to AoS at all but word on the street is that the upcoming edition is introducing Skaven so I'm just putting two and two together.
From what little I understand, the Skaven have been in there since the beginning. If the chatter my brother and one of his buddies is any sort of correct, they're getting fucked hard in the upcoming edition due to rules changes obsoleting like a third of their possible units - so, business as usual for a Warhammer game.
I still retain a (perhaps petty and unreasonable) distaste for the Age of Sigmar setting; even without the shit way that Fantasy got squatted, it still reminds me too much of Fantasy trying to ape 40K in the worst possible manner. So if a potential Vermintide follow-up is made there? Good goddamned luck, try not to make a bug-ridden and unoptimized mess of a game from the word "go" this time, guys.

Don't forget how much Skaven ate and shat on most of the factions on the End Times, RIP Lizardmen.

From what little I've seen of their new lore, the Lizardmen (or Seraphon, which I'll not-quite-grudgingly admit is a pretty cool name if you've got to rename the faction) have been or are being treated decently enough. They went from a reactive force of "get off my goddamned lawn" to a proactive force of "we will show up anywhere, at any time, to fuck Chaos up six ways from Sunday", and still roll up like the massive pile of angry gatormen and the occasional rare Pepe and/or T-Rex they are.
There are a few bits and bobs of the Sigmarverse that aren't terrible. Just, on the whole it's kind of meh at best, and I personally am so damned sick of Games Workshop's general bullshit that they'll need to drop a game that's not just a lazy reskin of something much more competent to pique my interest again.

I got stuck with this game after a sale thanks to Steams 2h or less refund policy (the servers were crashing like crazy around the time I bought it, by the time I actually played enough to get a feeling for it, well over 4 hours were "logged"), and my Steam library is pretty small so I'm trying to smash out the achievements and be done with it instead of letting it be a stain on my profile.

I just don't like it. L4D is OK, but this game being a bit more melee focused really accentuates the mechanics that just don't make it fun for a more boomershooter spastic like me (literally everything being faster than you and a hit from anything, even a basic bitch mouse, stunlocking you in place being easily the most annoying). I get why the mechanics exist in a co-op focused game, but it doesn't mean I have to like them. At the very least, the bot rubberbanding is much kinder than I recall it being in L4D2 back in the day, so if you play solo going spastic mode is actually feasible (for lower difficulties anyway) because the bots will actually stay on your ass and not take 30 fucking seconds to find where you're pinned. I really fucking hate the sheer overabbundance of microtransactions and DLC's, it's overkill and unless you spend some actual time in game to suss out exactly what the fuck you're buying on Steam, you're probably going to pick up a bunch of packs of shit you don't want. Putting the 4th class of every character behind individual paywalls (or even paywalls at all) is fucking bullshit and these money grubbing faggots should be ashamed. $5-$10 for all of them in a pack would be pushing it, but it would be less aggregious than the bullshit prices they have them at now, on top of 6 fucking DLC packs.

I would also gladly feed Kerilian to a Chaos Spawn and sleep like a baby. Jesus fucking Christ is she one of the most insufferable fictional characters I've encountered. Everyone's got their quips and jabs at each other, but it's all friendly teammate banter and it really makes this pack of misfits feel like a cohesive team... Except for Kerillian. "I'M THE LIVING INCARNATION OF TREE JESUS!" "YOU HUMEES AND MIDGET BOI ARE SMELLY DORK LOSERS IM FUCKING BETTER!" "GOOD JOB! NOT! IM BETTER GIRLBOSS GIRLBOSS!" "YOUR RELIGION IS FUCKING GAY! I WORSHIP TREES YOU GAY LUMBERFOOT!" Just non-fucking-stop. I actually enjoy and like all the other characters, but this stupid bitch is something else.

It's not all miserable though. I do enjoy playing Bounty Hunter, the repeater pistol is a really fucking good weapon with both its primary and secondary (a higher clip size would be nice) and while BH's special is stupid simple, it's simplicity makes it incredibly satisfying to use. Just a nice big "Fuck you!" button. Slayer is also really fucking fun to play and tickles my fancy for the more "spastic" approach perfectly. It's not an outright broken class, and having no access to a firearm can cause some issues, but its toolkit feels like it was made almost explicitly for speedrunning. Ignores armor, generates FUCKING MASSIVE dps especially if you stack buffs, gains attack speed and movement speed as he kills, has a special that clears a large distance for speed or shit like Ratlings that also buffs attack and movement speed, and thanks to all these buffs can easily outrun a lot of things.

Thank you for attending my Ted Talk. I now have to return to the fucking bell. The next mother fucker who pops in picking up tomes on Recruit is getting yeeted off a cliff.

Bumping and sharing my opinion. I really want to like this game, but I just can't play as much of it as I want to.
The combat system is very good imo, the melee feels very impactful - I wish we could have an open world game with this type of melee combat. I don't mind the elf, she is annoying, but that's the point.
I don't like all the DLCs, which usually give you meta weapons and classes (inb4 - the balance is quite good from my 100 hours of experience I got a year ago, but the DLCs definitely outshine vanilla stuff). I bought a few while playing, but when I realized I need to buy a lot more, I decided I'm quitting this game.
The end-game is also very lackluster - I don't see anything to do besides grinding the same maps on Legend for...what reward, exactly? I like the gameplay, but it's not enough to keep me interested. Maybe I'm just a zoomie that needs gratification for doing nothing, but a game like Deep Rock Galactic has much more enjoyable gameplay loop. I assume it's the procedural generation. Getting a different random boss spawn isn't really enough to make me want to play the same map again and again, especially since it's gonna be melted by experienced players anyway.
With the versus mode I'm thinking of returning, but I'm afraid it's nowhere near enough and I will get like 50 hours out of it at most.

If you bought WoM, try cataclysm. Legend is a cakewalk, Cata is a mosh pit. There isn't an endgame. Get your reds, clear all the difficulties. I think Fatshart was hoping the Chaos Wastes would have more replay value but as a roguelike it's pretty barebones and mediocre. In a vacuum it's ok tho, just not good enough to dump that many hours in.
Most of the dedicated players are playing modded difficulties these days. Maybe try those or try darktide.
