So I just finished Iron Lung, which a friend gifted me Monday with a "play this. Thank me later"

It's not gonna stick with me quite as long as Faith did, but I will remember it, and this does give me hope in video game creativity once again. I won't repeat most of the praise around it in terms of it's atmosphere and tension (and it's not hype, it delivers), but one thing that really struck me is that it's LOVECRAFTIAN.

Lovecraftian isn't about gibbering blobs of tentacles or "Me kawaii Cthulhu", it's the hopeless sensation that your sorry, insignificant ass is alone against the universe that doesn't even regard you as a microbe as it steps on you. Or in this case, engulfs you with blood in that laughable Pringles can you call a vessel...
I picked up the game because your recommendation seemed up my alley and 6 bones wasn't a whole lot to drop. Maybe this type of interactive horror isn't my style, but my take away was not quite as strong. Since I did invest some cash, I'll give a little spoiler thoughts.

The story set up doesn't seem all that connected to what happens in the game and at the end of the day, it just feels like some random fish monster that at least at a non-heavy theory kind of way shows no real connection. The pictures, outside of the fish glimpses, don't really seem to offer too much towards anything. All the clanking, leaks and outside sounds do add atmosphere but I don't think it really reaches any great heights. My favorite one was after the fish slammed the ship I realized by my coordinates it had moved me quite a bit away from where I was (I also appreciate the dev doing this at a point with a narrow passage you'd otherwise have to re-naviagte). The universe is certainly hopeless in that incomprehensible Lovecraftian way, but the focus of the gameplay (despite it's outlandish blood ocean setting) is grounded in a more standard monster hunting you way. I wish it had some focus on the planet disheartening stuff that made me think of Hellstar Remina (look that up if your into the insignificant human vs. indifferent universe Lovecraftian themes) since that was a good hook.

All in all it was a fun little experience, but maybe leaning more towards free IO game territory.

So we have horror on a sub, and there is going to be a horror on a train (with the spider train), has there ever been a horror game involving being chased while you are driving a car?

Though not really in the horror genre, there are horror elements in the Mad Max game when you battle opponents in the wasteland while in your car.

Now with the WD problems at their fab plant it's probably going to be this way for awhile.
what problems, don't really keep up with tech news these days. or do you mean the shangai lockdown?

Are any of you into faggoty games with ugly ass art styles and character design made by a faggot where the games are obnoxiously loaded with faggotry?
>itch.io
that's really nothing, it's like being surprised resetera is completely retarded.

They recently lost 16 billion gigabytes worth of NAND chips and apparently that's the equivalent of 10% of the total global market in a quarter.

That's a good question. The closest I can remember is certain sequences in Alan Wake, but I'm fairly certain(or hallucinating) that there is an indie game where you have to stop and quickly scavenge supplies/refuel the car and then blast off to stay ahead and not get caught. Might just be a hallucination.

AliExpress has some bootleg versions of the Streets Of Rage series, which range from good to hit or miss. They also go from $10+ to $20+; at least since the last time I checked.

Why would anyone buy bootleg copies of retro games? If you don't care about getting an authentic copy, why not just emulate and pirate for free, or get an SD card cart if you want to play on real hardware?

EDIT: what the fuck

Don't give Sega any ideas, we all saw what happened when Sega listened to their fans.
We got Sonic Forces the DeviantArt Simulator...

Getting harder and harder to play games as I'm getting older. It's hit hard the last month or so. Really gotta force myself to stay on a game even for an hour. Not sure how much longer I can do this. Barely play anything now.

Anyone else out there feeling this?
Try something brand new you've never played before but were curious about, or maybe a randomizer for an old game you liked ages ago.

Yes, for several years. Despite that I have paid for Gamepass for several years. And despite not playing games I post frequently in this forum because games and what happens around them are still interesting. In my mind I have become like those geezers that no longer watches all the sports, instead they pour through the results and outcomes in the paper the day after so they're up to date and can complain about [team/player] being overrated.

I've even started to fall out of keeping up with game news. I totally forgot Jim Sterling existed along with many other things.

Off topic sorta yet not. What you said reading what happens with games reminds me of old men who read the TV guide and don't own a TV because "if you read the TV guide there's no need to watch it".

Lumines Remastered is on Gamepass and Lumines is a good game so I decided to give it a whirl. Haven't played it since the 360 version but that one I played so much that I can't possibly have forgotten how to play it.

My first and only game so far, 32 minutes long, 58% completion for Challenge, 40% of the skins unlocked. Yeah, I remember how it works. Good game.
