Yurukill: The Calumniation Games came out in Japan last week and already includes English even though NISA isn't releasing it in the west for another month. Haven't tried it yet to know if it's good at all but there's a demo.

Almost finished GTAV again and still bitter that it never got a DLC story expansion like Episodes for Liberty City. I get that the Online received all the post-release love because Shark cards are Take 2's money maker, but I wasn't much a fan of the online due to all the griefers and cheaters. Give me relaxing single player times which I can tackle at my own slow pace than online bloodsports for 12 year olds.

Did you like GTAV's ending? It kinda felt rushed to me, like maybe they were running out of time or budget and had to find a quick way to wrap it all up. It's been a long time since I've played it, though, so I don't remember specifics.

Finally played Ancestors: Legacy and while I don't mind an RTS aping Battle for Middle-Earth's gameplay mechanics, they didn't really do it well. The population limit is too low to really make for big, entertaining fights like promised. I'm not even gonna mention the campaigns which are designed to be the most unbalanced bullshit possible.

Not sure what else I expected from the devs of Hatred but there's very few games in this particular niche unfortunately.

Been playing Super Robot Wars T and it's aiming to be my favorite SRW game just for the anime cast alone with many franchises I'm familiar with (Cowboy Bebop, Captain Harlock, Gundam UC universe, Fighter G Gundam, Gun x Sword, Votoms, Expelled from Paradise, Gunbuster, Shin Getter Robo, Mazinger Z Infinity, Magic Knight Rayearth). The crossover synergy is also pretty good with the Spike Spiegel vs Captain Harlock showdown, Domon Kasshu acting as a mentor for broken men like Van and the clashing lawful good/chaotic good disparities

Wish The Big O was present among the T cast but he's starred in the entire Z saga, although I think the Megadeus mechas could have been used as forgotten relics from the Golden Age for the plot.

Also both original MCs are cool, you either get to choose an autistic salaryman or an easy-going christmas cake, both working for a private military company.
It's available in english for both PS4 and Switch, but the Premium Sound Edition (which contains licensed music) I'm playing is japanese-only. Although you can add your own music tracks for the PS4 version, it's not possible on Switch for the obvious reason it doesn't have an implemented media player

The story is definitely the weakest aspect of GTAV. To me it seemed like it lacked a narrative thread for most of the game, focusing more on cool scenarios like the heists rather than concerning itself with telling a coherent story. You do get some stellar mission design as a result of that, but in the last few missions it's like the game suddenly remembers it has to actually do something with this trio of characters.

Another problem was the weak villains, which again the game doesn't do much with. The trio do so much shit to Madrazo like ruin his home and kidnap his wife. R* then use that as an excuse for more heists so the trio can pay back Madrazo, which of course is a fun diversion and all, but the payment from those jobs just totally defuses the situation. Madrazo, a man powerful enough to exile you from Los Santos, just slopes off like a coward, never to be seen again. It could've been more interesting if he'd played a bigger role as a big bad who comes back later on, perhaps replacing the role of Cheng and Stretch (who just seem to come out of nowhere as antagonists). At least there would be a more personal beef with Madrazo. The other antagonists like Devin Weston and the FIB guy just were't very memorable or even particularly evil - just opportunistic, narcissistic dudebros who are more annoying than anything. In another GTA game these would just be any other mission giver, not the main event (like a Brucie in GTA4).

My final issue with the story is the ending dilemma of who Franklin has to kill. It seemed to me like Rockstar were trying to do another clever ending scenario like they did with Red Dead Revolver. However, giving the player the option to not kill either Michael or Trevor, and just go kill the FIB douchebags instead, completely deflates the weight of the choice. NOBODY ON THIS GREEN EARTH is going to permanently kill off an interesting main character, for an under-developed plot reason, when the choice of saving both exists. Why even bother giving the player that choice at all?

Sonny Forelli in VC, Tenpenny in SA and Dimitri in GTA4 were all much better developed villains and those games had a more compelling escalation of the story events. Even just the way they'd phone you throughout the game to taunt you built them up as someone to be hated. You actually got a sense of closure and finality in all those games, which you don't in GTAV, where it's more of a "that's it?" feeling.

Skyrim is unironically better than Oblivion. I have no clue how people think Oblivion is a good game, especially since I distinctly remember a time during the late 2000s when it was considered a half-assed Morrowind for normies.
I’m glad I stumbled on this post.
Just yesterday I stopped playing oblivion and thought to myself “this game really is some people’s favorite out of the series”
The map and dungeons are the blandest ever. I’ve seen an alarming amount of people say Skyrim has a boring and bland map while Oblivion’s looks like a 9 year old’s drawing with sunshine and green hills.
The only thing that game did well is the creativity of the quests other than that the gameplay is atrocious.

I just watched the trailer for the Immortal Empires campaign in Total Warhammer 3 and I'm fucking hyped in spite of my better judgement telling me not to be just yet.

To be fair, if I had gotten the chance to kill Franklin, I would've taken it on the off chance I could finally fucking murder that stupid nigger Lamar.

The fact that that peice of shit survives, and even infects the online mode (which I play solo as a sort of brainless grind to wind down) is probably the most fucked up thing that storyline does.

If Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us, Bloodborne and Persona 5 all end up receving ports to other platforms like on PC or elswhere, then there is basically no major hook or killer app for you to justify currently owning a Sony system (just PS4 and 5) what so ever, unless you value a video game console over a personal computer.

Anything new enough to have a PS5 version is probably getting ported but PS4 games from earlier in its life or by dead devs are probably staying exclusive, leaving the PS5 some niche use as a faster PS4 for its few exclusives. It'll end up in the same position as Xbox Series X with owners having nothing to brag about but emulating older Xbox games without PC ports.

Anybody playing v rising? I played it for like an hour and got bored. Not my cup of tea. I don't like the camera system and don't like how linear it feels and don't like hearing how "rust like" it is on the PvP servers once you get out of early game. I already lost 3K hours of my life pushing the stone uphill in Rust against soemone that will always be playing more than you because they are 16 or whatever and have no life.

I can see how it hits the spot for some people tho. It's def well fleshed out for EA. One of those EA games that drops with more content and polish than many AAA games.

Good news for you autists who like Prison Architect! Introversion has announced a new game in a similar vein called The Last Starship

Currently in private beta on Steam. It's definitely incomplete but seems to be nowhere near as fucked as the super early alphas of Prison Architect were. (I have the alpha 2 files if anyone wants to see what that was like)

I just learned the steam workshop downloader thing got taken down by Valve. Fuck those niggers.

People act like a 6-7/10 is a "bad game", i always thought that meant an average game that the majority of people like (hence the 6-7/10), not every game has to be GOTY tier shit. I swear a lot of people just parrot what their favorite youtubers say. leading to some games getting too much unwarranted hate, or leading to circlejerks (IE Fallout New Vegas or any Fromsoftware game), while a review may tell me some basics info about the game, I rather play it and make my own assessment. I wonder if people that either hate/circlejerk certain games have actually played them.
The biggest issue is that most sites don't go under a 6, unless the game won't even boot.

Most games SHOULD be in the 6 range, but since they give games that should get a 3 a 6 instead, you end up with games that deserve a 6 on a fully-utilized scale being lumped in with shit that should get a 2 or 3.

And then there's the bought-off gaming media, who hand out 9s to incomplete, buggy messes just because they come from a big publisher or continue a series that was huge 20 years ago.

I can understand that time, buying it over the internet (for console games) was usually not an option for PS3/360 games and the big midnight releases could be fun. It was a stupid event filled with hype and hype + stupid is fun! Sometimes, at some places, they added in free swag as well (if it was the location the publisher was backing).

And in an era of physical formats they could run out of games but the only time it was very important to pre-order was for imports. Getting RE4 a day after the NA release in Europe meant that the shop paid for turbo express shipping and only had a box with 20 copies on hand.

It's like movies, some movies I really enjoy might have a 6.3 on IMDB but that just means it's not for everyone. The score might not mean it's a good movie, it could be crappy, lackluster and mediocre, but it's not necessarily a bad movie, it might just lack mass appeal or deal with something many people aren't interested in. Same thing with games.
With digital downloads being pretty common now preordering is basically a waste of time these days. They will never run out of digital copies. You can buy the game digitally and play it then just pick up a physical copy later on. Just wait till the price drops if that's an issue or buy it used. But a lot of games these days tend to be garbage so it might not even be worth it.

I think it's a holdover from back in the day when video game magazines and sites were still a big thing. When people depended on those magazines and sites for the reviews. When you only have so much money to spend on a game people wanted the best games. The 6's and 7's could be picked up later on when the price dropped. No one wanted to spend a $50 on a game that was a 6-7 experience. Another guess it's just being passed down culturally as well.

That's one of the things I hate about GTAV. It never got any story DLC. I don't like GTAO and have never played it much. There was story DLC Rockstar was working on but they made it DLC for GTAO. GTAO is a huge grind fest.

I thought the ending was ok. But I didn't care for how short the game felt. I also got the feeling it was just a big tutorial for GTAO. I know GTAO didn't have much when it first started but Rockstar had to work on the content first. I enjoyed the story mode, and it was fun, but I was left wanting more. Instead, they started putting all the content into GTAO. I bought GTAV for PC back when it released in 2015 and I finished the story in 2016. I didn't do much of the side stuff. How the game went with GTAO is what disappointed me. I was pretty fed up with Rockstar. Then they released RDR2 and I really liked that. I don't want another GTA game where the story mode feels like a tutorial for the online part of the game.

Absolutely, I was talking about the past. The places I bought from didn't have any money down policy either, they just put you on a list and held the game for a couple of days. One thing that was bizarre if looked at from todays perspective was importing PC games, there was no real point to it other than getting it one or two weeks early.

I never preordered a game back in the 6th gen. All my games were bought after release. I didn't preorder a game till 2018 and that was on Steam. I only did it to get the preorder bonuses and also because I had the money at the time. I might not have had the money for it on release. That's about the only two reasons to preorder games digitally I can possibly think of. Since then, I have preordered other games but not many. I only preorder from developers that know won't put out a shitty game on release. I bought Doom 2016 on release and made sure I had my PC built before it released. I preordered Doom Eternal. I would not preorder anything from EA or Ubisoft. I preordered RDR2 and figured after GTAV they finally figured out how to make a decent PC port. I was totally wrong with RDR2 and that game was a mess for weeks or months after release. Poor optimization and all. So I have Rockstar on my no preorder list.

I never imported any games. By the time I got into PC gaming the days of physical PC games were over.

I just found out that Axiom Verge 2 released a year ago. What? Epic Store, you failed me despite my attempts to defend you on the internet!

Probably not the right place but I want to bitch about something.

Something happened with ActMan and now Youtube keeps recommending people shilling for him with #justiceforactman. It took me a solid week to get that dude out of my recommendeds and now this shit happens.
