Are videogames for children?

What's the newest game you people played and really enjoyed? It's hard for me to remember anything newer than Metal Gear Rising or Deus Ex: Mankind Divided both of which I liked.
I believe that freely available video game engines such as UE, Unity, Godot etc. accelerated the growth of mediocre indie-bullshit video games made by people with profile bios like "Deidre Gwyneth, transfem lesbian, xhe/xhem, wiccan, diaper fetishist, tarot card enjoyer" which on their turn lowered the standards for AAA studios.
Am I just an old fart (slightly over 20 yo) or are things really like that?

Robocop: Rogue City
Just a really fun shooter faithful to the movies where you STOMP STOMP BRRRRT BRRRT and undo crime. Loved it from start to end.
Also enjoyed Ghost of Tsushima PC port, mostly just cause it was really pretty. I had some beef with most of the other aspects of it.

as far as new releases go probably Elden Ring, my biggest frustration with the industry right now is the amount of time it takes for singleplayer releases nowadays, its just Games-as-a-Service Slop until Bethesda,Rockstar,CDPR,etc. gets their shit together and puts something out, ive said this before but Publishers need to stop being fucking faggots about making graphics ultra-realistic, it only makes games more expensive and longer to produce

Imho Rockstar is way better than CDPR or Bethesda. Video games are stuck at a local optimum and there are no tendencies yet to push the industry from this position. Video game engines are going to provide a "make the graphics look cool" option for devs (pajeets and chinks) and the latter will put even less effort for the half-stocks they're gonna make and games will be even shittier.

Is pcsx2 dot net a safe place to download a PS2 emulator from? And where can I find a BIOS or Roms for it?

EDIT: NVM found it all myself

The first thing that came to mind was Torment: Tides of Numenera but that's seven years old. Before that was Shadowrun: Hong Kong and that's pushing ten years old now.

Probably Pathfinder: Kingmaker or Sunless Skies, but those are also both pre-2020 games. Most of what I play now seems to be CRPG's from the 00's and Pokémon ROMhacks. When did it get like this? I can't even remember the last time I was excited for a new game.

Abiotic Factor and Palworld came out this year.

There are many games that are new to me but are older.

If you're talking just AAA, likely Resident Evil 2 Remake.

No.

Indie games didn't lower the standard, and the availability of engines didn't enable wokeshit. It was diversity hires that ruined it. But it DEI, SBI, ESG, whichever you prefer.

There were many stock engines back in the day. From idTech, PieInTheSky, FPSCreator, and Game Maker to name a few. These didn't cause AAA games to become shit. Oddly enough, the complaints they got then are the same now. The overuse of demo assets (today that would be called an asset flip), an abundance of low quality shite, and a general consensous they weren't to be taken seriously. Game Maker was considered a joke, "babies first game engine", until Hotline Miami blew up.

So you're a child, basically.

There is so much wrong about video game industry that nobody knows where to start

Never played these two. I don't like these kinds of games.

This one is good. AAA projects are mostly good but stale and non-revolutionary for the last 15 years or so.

I implied that even a freak like this can make a game, thousands of them.

I suppose Unity and UE are more flexible and user-friendly. That's what I was talking about—an overabundance of low-quality crap as of now made by trannies, pajeets, chinks, and others who would be web devs, journos or SEOs in other circumstances.

So this was recently announced as a port, but I'm not sure how hopeful I am.

But that's the thing. Pajeets, trannies, freaks, whatever you want to call them, in theory always could. Game maker is easier to use than Unity or UE. FPS Creator and RPG Maker were arguably even easier but limited to specific genres, though you could always work around those limitations, such as making a walking simulator by not including any enemies.

The overabundance of low quality crap was considered a problem with these engines back then. The only thing that changed is AAA started using them. Unity was a joke until Harthstone and Cities Skylines made it big. Game Maker was a joke for years, then Hotline Miami made it a "real engine", I remember because I used to use it. I forget the engine FNAF used, but that was the same thing. Ask anyone over the age of 30 about Flash or Java games and watch them get nostalgic for some game they used to play because those were everywhere back then.

Games like Depression Quest and Gone Home would've languished in obscurity along with all the other games you've never heard of on Itch and GameJolt had they not been pushed by game journos.

Does anyone have recommendations for novelizations of popular games? Like Fallout games, Elden Ring, The Last of Us, Call of Duty, etc? I have always been interested in the lore and stories of the games but I am too blind and graphics are the most incomprehensible thing for me to look at. I fucking hate 99% of video essay youtubers too, so "five hours of autism guy droning on in Standard Youtuber Voice" is not an option. I like books.

I think you're right

The first Mass Effect novel was pretty decent from what I can recall.

The only one I've read is Resident Evil, I don't remember much but I think it was alright, though I'm not a book person. I remember it deviated from the established lore a few times, but that not the authors fault. It was due to later game releases, and the canon ending being impossible to get in the games. I remember it was also fun to get a little more insight into what Barry was doing. I heard the later books, including the original stories, were about the same quality. ie. mediocre, and rendered non-canon by later games.

(Ninja'd) I heard good things about the Mass Effect books at the time, really fleshing out the pre-game lore.

The Halo book detailing the fall of Reach was also considered a must read for fans until the game came out.

Not a novelization, but a lot of games if you search the title with game movie, you get people who stitch together gameplay in a way to be just the story parts, with the good ones including gameplay for pacing.

Seconding the book prequel to Halo and the book sequel to Halo. Fall of Reach and then First Strike. The novelisation of the game is dogshit by a different author but serviceable if you can get through it to read the much better follow up book.

The Metro series started life as novels, I'd recommend those.
There's also a novel with an audiobook set in Brigador's universe that was excellent.
