Are videogames for children?

If you’re a titanfall fan, your best bet for feeling that way ever again might lie in the hands of a kickstarter project called Diesel Knights that reached its maximum goal in a month and its first goal in only six hours.
Few indie games make it to completion but I’m optimistic because he had already been working on it for a few years without burning out and anything resembling a singleplayer campaign is the last thing on the list.
IIRC he actually has experience in the industry as a lead animator or something but the deciding factor will be his ability to expand his team from himself and a hard surface 3D modeller. (IMO at the bare minimum he will need to find a UE dev with netcode experience and maybe a dedicated sound designer.)
 
Still addicted to ARC Raiders, though I am now splitting my time between it and other stuff. State of Decay 2 is my current single player game and I think I'm approaching the end of the campaign, having a good time there. Next is Cloudpunk.
 
I'm pretty sure that someone here mentioned a game called Greek Tragedy, an Alone in the Dark style game with tank controls. Was a bit frustrated in the demo because there was a long sequence with some point-and-click adventure game shenanigans (including the potential for an early death if you stick metallic items in the microwave) and then a point where you had to run to avoid the killer, meaning that if he caught you, it's game over and back to a previous point, as there's only limited save options.
 
I've finished Hades 2(as in Chronos and Typhon's dissolution/disintegration endings, haven't found the fates yet).
Is the one big happy family ending the part that people were displeased were, or was it changed from something? I found it fairly in line with the rest of the plot and fairly heart warming, my understanding of the theme of the Hades games was that it's all about family and how even the most bitter family spat can be resolved(by the newer generation bringing the old back together) and in that vein I could not see Chronos getting killed, they already had the pure evil character in Typhon.

I enjoyed the game but not enough to replay it a gazillion times with every weapon and trial , and you very quickly relying on certain powerups and ignoring the rest is a problem I've had from Hades 1 that also shows up here, I rarely interact with Poseidon, Aphrodite barely shows up, Icarus barely showed up, Artemis barely showed up, Hestia's scorch is too good to pass up, etc. I just don't think as a roguelite that every run truly changes. I was mainly replaying for the plot.

Don't get me wrong, I still really like the game. I'd go as far as calling it my game of the year if only because the other games released in 2025 that I've played I've largely forgotten about like Bloodthief and Jetrunner.

Never played the Hades games (can't get past them making the gods mixed race), but I'm curious how they handle Hades and Persephone or if they even bother to do so. Standard current year deal of evil man raping the helpless girl, or is there an actual relationship there?

They were(prior to Hades 1) and are(after Hades 1's "final" ending with the credits) very loving.

  • Persephone was still Zeus' "trophy" to Hades for ruling tartarus but they actually really loved each other
    • No one else in the pantheon was aware of this, they simply believed she disappeared and I think at some point Hades was painted as the villain which further deepened the rift between Hades and Olympus
  • They have a child in zagreus
  • He turns out stillborn
  • In grief, Persephone leaves the underworld and sets up a farm somewhere on the surface since she didn't want to return to Olympus
  • Zag is resurrected by Nyx
  • Hades fearing Olympus' reprisal never let her know, told Zag he's one of Nyx's sons and was fairly harsh on him
  • Hades I's plot is all about Zag trying to escape to go meet his mother
  • Hades being the final boss doesn't want Zag to leave because he's cursed to never leave the underworld, and to spare Persephone and Zag any grief due to this fact.
  • Persephone, also due to Olympus' reprisal and partly due to resentment of not knowing Zag lived doesn't want to go back to the Underworld
  • Hades I's first end(the one with In The Blood playing over credits) has Persephone decide to come back and forgive Hades.
  • Hades I's second end(the one with the still of the banquet they put no effort in) is inviting the whole of Olympus to a feast in the underworld to clear up Persephone's disappearance
  • At some point Hades and Persephone get jiggy and Melinoe is born

It all sounds like very melodramatic family soap opera and in a way it is but it's also Bastion on crack and I like the music and characters so I was invested.

God I wouldn't mind a second Bastion game, or anything that isn't a roguelite.
 
I've always heard that Sonic Colors was a pretty good entry in the series, but now after having played it for a couple hours I really don't get that at all. Game is ass with a few decent music tracks. A couple of the levels are literally cutscenes with 2-3 QTEs, and most of the rest are terrible feeling platforming that do not take advantage of the speed at all. Was I lied to all these years?

Skyrim is a wintery war torn land in the middle of a brutal Civil War and apocalyptic dragon attacks so the bleak harsh lightning of the 2012 original was immersive and made sense.

That's actually a pet peeve of mine, that literally every single fucking game has to have this incredibly over saturated and cartoony lighting with all these vivid pinks and purples everywhere even if it doesn't make sense for the setting or lore.

Like 90% of modern games have this fucking troon lighting and hideous Candyland color palette

All the boost game are bad, theyre all glorified qtes/endless runners. unleashed, generations, colors, forces. Awful games.

I didn't hate most of Generations when I played it years back and have never played the others. I remember it being better than Colors by a good margin.
 
Friendos, please can I ask for some advice on the Final Fantasy games.

I’ve never played any of these - I was too busy at the time playing obscure RPGs like Shining Force and Phantasy Star games on my Sega consoles.

Mindful of this, I’m not sure what to go for - I read that the original FF6 & FF7 are the best, but what of the modern games? I’m a bit confused by that FF7 Remake Intercooler shit, and I notice all the Steam releases have a lot of complaints. I’m on PC so am looking for some ideas from anyone inclined to advise.

Happy to emulate them if need be.

This would probably be your best bet, but some of the older PC ports of FF7-10/12 were fair to pretty well done, especially with some of the community fixes/patches around. But, I haven't tried the 7 remaster, myself.

Now, deciding which platform to emulate certain games on is entirely subjective. Some games got decent handheld ports, but I'd probably emulate the originals, if I were to do so again anytime soon. FF6 and FF:Tactics had decent handheld ports, imo, but there are some differences with them to the originals.

Grain of salt, though: Its been the better part of a decade since I've played any of them, but I'm sure someone else will have more up to date information.
 
I played the FF games like a complete retard. X-2 was my favorite and like a decade+ later I finally tried and beat X. Both are great games, in my humble opinion, but I understand why fans of X hate X-2 and possibly vice-versa. I have literally never beat a different FF game and I played the MMO off and on.
