how many people have a surround setup for their console? there you go...
and it's not a feature you can namedrop for marketing like "4k".
You realize that for HRTF to work you only need a pair of regular stereo headphones? It's the software that give those regular cans surround sound.

It's built on EAX though. Creative created EAX and then sued Aureal that had created a GOOD solution for binaural wavetracing in games, with a great SDK that made it easy for games to implement it*, in the late 90's. Aureal popped up to be a real competitor like 3Dfx took the world by storm or like how Nvidia just crushed 3Dfx. Creative would have none of that, competition is bad, so they started a bullshit lawsuit against a small company saying they were violating their patents.
Aureal won but it was a pyrrhic victory, it took all their time and money to defend themselves and even though Creative had to pay the court costs they had nothing going anymore. Their only option was to be bought by Creative and shut down, so EAX reverb could plague the ears and shitty drivers could crash computers all over the world.

Fuck Creative and EAX. They're the soundcard creator that killed sound. edit: I'm still salty about that.

* the SDK included material tagging, a texture/surface material could be tagged with their properties like wood, moss, metal etc so there was no hassle to get it going, it had pretty good support for the hot minute it existed and it was awesome.

HRTF isn't EAX exclusive though, OpenAL's implementation of it is completely independent of EAX and Creative. Even Steam Audio has no association with Creative, it's all Valve's code to implement technology that's older than Creative itself.

Hate doesn't have to be rational. Compare what's available now-ish to what was available in the 90's, technology that was killed because it was too competitive. A3D can a put up a decent fight despite being over 20 years old and that should be concerning.

But imagine if sound could have evolved with Aureal in the way graphics did from Half-Life 1 to Half-Life 2, to Gears of War and onward. My biggest interest in PS5 was Cherny talking about the sound. Aureal was the innovation.

Does anyone else play SWTOR?

Why did N64 boxes seem to get sun bleached in a way other game boxes didn't? Was it the dye? Did Nintendo have some policy that their games in video stores had to be placed near the windows?

Just something odd I've noticed.

Oh dang, well they aren't max level now lol. They are raising the level cap to 80 next update and overhauling the class system.

The overhaul is going to be shit and retarded tho.
in what way?
wasn't great before but not that bad either. knowing modern gamedevs there's always worse...

They are basically making it where if you're playing as the Jedi Knight class you can pick all the sith inquisitor disciplines or Jedi consular disciplines.

They are basically getting rid of "classes" they will exist in name only.

The non force classes will gain access to all disciplines so a smuggler can be a mercenary heals basically.

And the force classes will be the same you'll have a with inquisitor tanking using the Jedi knight discipline.

Career MMO fags laud and lick Dev ballsack for this decision and fanatically defend them for doing it on the SWTOR forums. But its split down the middle tbh.

The opposition (which I include myself in) say it just ruins the uniqueness of classes. Cause it gives Smugglers the access to abilities like orbital strike or fusion missile, which should be unique to the agent and bounty hunter respectively.

Long story short, swtor devs are fucking idiots. That would rather ruin the class system than create new animations and disciplines allowing your class to use different weapons.

Thats what it all started over.

509 reviews and it's overwhelming positive. I can't wait to play it.

This game isn't on Steam yet but it looks really good.
Aren't they the same devs who made that vaporware game "I AM JESUS CHRIST"?

You make it seem like this is your first experience with Pozzed development studios. This is Standard Operation Procedure for most bought and paid for propaganda mills. Bioware is no exception.

I stopped playing after their avengers endgame parody of fighting the emperor with everyone short of Dash Rendar himself showing up to lay the beatdown on the "totally not rigged in the player's favor with zero challenge or gear management like most story content over the last 5 years" final battle,

And then the dyke mandalorians came around and I lost all interest in one of the best player customization MMO's ever conceived by human beings over a decade ago. No Troons and diversity hires do not count. The outfit system and ability to play the GTN was the true endgame despite the Raid jockeys claiming otherwise. No one has the time to get up at 3 AM and do some obscure pagan blood ritual instead of playing the fucking game and the guilds were more ban happy and cliquish than the average subreddit moderator. Lord forbid someone ASK and actually LEARN the fucking raid.

One of the only good things to come of the "dumbing down" was the loosening of these faggots stranglehold on Nightmare and Hard operations/Raids and not needing to do them anymore to hit the gear cap short of using augments and that is a whole different level of bullshit and P2W.

Otherwise, its an MMO. Its meant to be complex and SWTOR still doesn't even have a console release or controller options if they are truly committed to milking the shit out of the corpse of this Living advertisement of all things EA and Disneywars. One look at the top the screen is all you need with ads to buy the latest cash shop armor set, mount, or useless house decor because no one actually visits strongholds lmao.
Its sad that the game only went full circle to onslaught and the original direction it was supposed to go into a decade later. Fuck that stupid "hutt cartel" crap. Makeb was an example of terrible level design and rightly killed the majority of the initial fanbase.

Though the three times I was invited to a 50 vs 50 sith vs jedi "raid" on the dread fortress bridge was a literal slideshow on the game's server side despite in its own lore, shit like that happening all the time. Bitraider is a dogshit client and the Hero engine was a terrible choice for an MMO. Unreal would have been better since its heavily documented and extremely customizable for projects of SWTOR's complexity. Despite the Troons insistence on dumbing everything down and pushing the blatant nigger pandering with that sheboon dyke "jedi" and Not-cyborg Chad Kroeger from nickelback.

HAHAHAHA holy shit I didn't realize he looked like chad kroeger until now.

And uhm, tbh, swtor is my first mmo and only mmo. So I wasnt expecting them to fuck up the game so much.

Also yeah the GTN and in game economy is a fucking mess. Inflation is so rampant in that game they should really remove the ability to sell shit on the GTN from the cartel market but theu won't cause they probably wouldn't make enough money on subs alone cause it would kill the amount of purchases on the cartel market.

Its quite sad. The game still lags on the fleet. There was just so much more potential but its so profit driven now it can't really be what it should be.

I take it you started playing recently? I can tell you that it wasn't until around Onslaught's release that the inflation became a problem.
It used to be hypercrates would be the most expensive item of around 40 million credits and everyone seemed to have agreed to that.

It was literally everything a player economy should be for most of the game's lifespan and it only shit the bed when the level cap exponentially started giving out thousands of credits and player HP spiked from around 50k max to 160k+ when the level cap went to 70. Then the trolls showed up with the move to steam and that is how the Player economy went to hell within a few months with exhorbitant prices of over 100+ million for a piece of used toilet paper that you would see in every Asian MMO.

Also seems that the SWTOR equivalent of SWG's "New combat upgrades" is rolling out in the next expansion. Must be nearing the end of SWTOR's life cycle and will probably get a pozzed KOTOR 3.

I've been playing since '12 would quit playing for months at a time and resub.

And yeah. I remember the hyper crates at most being 80mil when I last stopped playing. Literally bought two hyper crates and sold them for 1.5 billion credits. Was Insane. I also don't think they do enough to combat credit sellers but that's a whole other thing.

Dear god I HATED KOTET/KOTFE.

I hated how long they drug it out and how long they drug out vitiate. Referencing the avengers battle I was irate during that entire thing having to deal with him again.

Im happy its back to Sith vs Jedi like civilized people. Fuck "Skytrooper elimination simulator tm" and forcing players to kill every single skytrooper ever made.

Though it was fun to glitch Kotet and turn the first mission into a Walker Escort Mission. The other players spawn on foot and the game doesn't scale for more than 1 person. Only the host can progress the story otherwise you can easily walk through some barriers and see unused/cut content if you are not the host since other players can't interact with the level triggers that load the other parts of the map because the Triggers aren't programmed for more than just the host.

Another thing I've noticed is the amount of literal fanfiction over the last year under the guise of "short stories" is threadworthy at this point if you ever venture to take a look at the steam news tab for SWTOR.

The Troons literally expect endless asspats for doing nothing over the course of an entire year except only making that one " Dantooine rebuilt jedi enclave" flashpoint that came out some time after the mandalorian tie in flashpoint.

They are a fucking AAA studio, not some random on the internet who is bored one afternoon. Why can't they at least make more CGI cutscenes like Kotfe's if they are hellbent on "Short Stories"

Literally reeks of being written by a Troon from the title alone:

For some reason I typically find that fanfics are written by progressive types anyway.

Idk why I have no evidence but it seems like a common theme to me.

Also I'll check those out I don't have swtor on steam so I didn't even know this existed lmao.

Does anyone recognize this theme? Sounds like something from an Amiga demo or something similar.

Long story short, swtor devs are fucking idiots. That would rather ruin the class system than create new animations and disciplines allowing your class to use different weapons.

Thats what it all started over.
is there a PTS already? curious if they still suck like when they copied WoW's class/skill system without a clue why it worked the way it did, including it's flaws.

on it's own looser class restrictions aren't necessarily bad, rift did just fine with 4, eso has 6, ff14 has 1 char who can switch classes on the fly. you can still have "class identity" this way, it really depends on the implementation and restrictions. highly doubt they'll just let you mix and match for balance reasons alone, if not progression since "level every class to max" is their way squeeze more playtime out of the game. but who knows when it comes to bioware...

to be fair bioware austin is EA's junkyard, that's where they move projects to keep them on live support and still fool people with the bioware branding.

Yeah there's been 2 actually. For some reason the Guardian was fine but they literally copy pasted the same announcement for the Sentinel PTS and the redditors are chimping out. Fun to watch.

It is true. No idea how they got the resources to make the glorified dumpster fire that was Kotfe/Kotet but when it came to an actually at least semi decent storyline like Onslaught and Ossus, they had next to nothing but the handful of newer 3D models/armor sets were substantially superior in quality to the older in game ones and mostly locked behind a cash shop and recycling old assets but with different names and lower rarities assigned to the previously artifact/custom rarity armor while making the gameplay drastically less jank and faster/smoother overall.

Swtor needs a remake more than a update at this point to actually resemble the CGI trailers and be built for large scale PVP.

Swtor needs a remake more than a update at this point to make it look more like the CGI trailers and less like a psuedo WoW with clay people expecting everyone to take it seriously.
FF14 pulled off the look and it came out around the same time frame.
as shit as hero engine might be, one of it's draws is that it's easy to crank out content for, and given it's age it should be even easier now. same reason bethesda sticks with their version of creation engine. assets are easy since you can just outsource it to some third worlder for pennies.

remake's prolly never happening, and even if you really want a shitty nuwars version?
