Video games where you have to "RESET" the system after you've beatin the game.

But.. winning the game should show you a game over message. That's when you know the game is over.
it's just that knowing that the game is looping back into that same part of the code it's been showing me every time I failed is a bit disheartening.
the game over screen does take on a different meaning when you've won, now I think of it.

Now that I think about it, how many games still use "Game Over" as the ending screen? I recall only seeing fighting games do that anymore, like it's some tradition or something.

it's something I really noticed from 1980s video games. I always just assumed they didn't have enough space left to code a proper ending sequence on older hardware.

Fucking X-Men on the Genesis. Mojo's level. I share your pain. I could never figure that out as a kid either. Drove me up the god damn wall!

Now I feel like a smart kid for saying, "fuck it" and trying that, to hell with my progress through the game.

Boy was I surprised when the weird BIOS/Boot screen for the Danger Room happened.

How about games like Earthbound and SimCity that have a superfluous option to softlock the game when you're done playing? Not at the ending, but just after you save

Why are those there?

I kinda like it in the Final Fantasy games.

It's hard to explain exactly why, but there's kind of a bittersweet feeling of beating one of those games for the first time, sitting there with the main theme playing on loop, and then having to shut off the console.

Like... damn. It's over.

I can kinda see why that went the way of the dinosaur, but I'd be lying if I said if I didn't miss it.

Nintendo is the number one culprit of this. From the nes up to the gamecube (not many if any on gc), you can rely on nearly any of their first party games to do this

A bit off to the side, but any rare game that played a game over video when you save and quit. Motherfucker, I didn't lose, I just can't play your shit right now.

I remember playing Donkey Kong 64 as a little kid and never ever touching Quit Game after I saved. Seeing that Game Over vid made me feel like shit.
