The antagonists from Tad Williams Shadowlands series. I barely got through the first two books and gave up due to both of the protagonist characters being unlikeable little shits.

Obould Many Arrows From RA Salvatores books was another one. in this case it was more due to Drizz't by this point being slightly boring, and Obould thrashing every single kingdom around him while trying to force the orcs into a civilized nation that has the respect of everyone around them is something quite refreshing. Doesn't hurt that he's also very well written and I'd honestly like reading more books about him.

Dr. Robotnik/Eggman. Ever since Sonic Adventure, the main cast (and some of the side characters too) have been nothing more than one note. Examples include...
  • Sonic is "ultimate chuck-norris jesus" who is literally the ONE AND ONLY hero that can save the day and no character can do anything without his help.
  • Tails is weak, except for his brain.
  • Knuckles is DUUUUUUUUHHHHHHH but he's really strong
  • Amy is a creepy stalker
Sonic Boom aside (which has it's "LOL FUNNY MEME" moments), none of the characters evolve or branch out as a character. But then you have Robotnik/Eggman, in which just by how he speaks, his voice just oozes with personality. He's sarcastic, he's energetic, he get's mad, happy, and sad sometimes. He loves to show off his inventions, and at home he has conversations with his creations (there's a "dinner" scene in Sonic Unleashed where he's discussing his plan with orbot, whom in that game is just a regular robot without a personality.. he gains one in Colors). He gives off a feeling that he would be really cool to hang out with but would also be intellectual stimulating to have a conversation with.

Bowser is a parallel in a way, in fact he shows MORE personality than anyone else in the Mario universe, especially in the M&L/PapaerMario series, which he's the most fun to watch/play as. In fact, both Sega & Nintendo DESPERATELY NEED to give these characters their own game (Bowser's inside story and Sonic Adventure 2 doesn't count)

In author Louise Cooper's 'Time Master' trilogy the main character is considered by everyone else in the world to be a villain due to his connections with the Lords of Chaos.

In that trilogy, it's sequel 'Chaos Gate' trilogy, and it's prequel 'Star Shadow' trilogy the Lords of Order who are generally considered 'Benevolent & Good' are shown to be power-hungry, amoral buttholes who view humans as insects and the Lords of Chaos who are generally considered 'Malevolent & Dangerous' grant humans the freedom to rule themselves and they treat their loyal followers with respect.
