"On Saturday night (Sunday morning) at around 4:30AM my friend and I were the victim of a brutal assault that was started, escalated, and carried out by the most senior members of the Orga group of the Chaos Communication Congress. If it were not for the evidence we collected, you would think I was crazy. But these abuses are very real. CCC is an organization whose leadership has been infected with people who use their power to exert political will over their victims, and have demonstrated that they are willing to resort to violence to meet some political end and theft to destroy evidence. They carry out that violence at the Congress Center in Leipzig, Germany, where the event is held every year."

I hadn't heard of this guy before either. According to his blog post linked in the OP, he's the operator of the cock.li email host service. I'm not sure if that alone was enough to piss these people off; I suspect there's more to it than what's in that post. I'd like to hear what the other side has to say and how they were able to justify violence and theft against this guy to themselves.

I absolutely believe it, just look at some of the novelty domains he provides. He's as good as sub-human to these people. Personally I use the @420blaze.it for the ResetEra ban site contact address.

15, even 10 years ago most people attending a hacker conference would have supported a free and transparent email service. Especially considering how the original members of the Chaos Computer Club and Chaos Communication Congress promoted freedom of information, freedom of speech, cryptography and privacy, and were involved in confrontations with governments and corporations over such ideals. The number of people applauding Vince being beaten up and private security trying to prevent the citizen documentation of it is disheartening. Although with the increasing number of talks that have nothing to do with hacking, it's not surprising.

I'm not shocked. The hacker scene is loaded with communist types who LARP as analchests fighting da system, while supporting the same types of authority figures they declare others "bootlickers" for supporting. It's well known that CCC attracts a lot of LARPing ancom types who act just like Michael Hirdes.

None of them give any reasons for him being a Nazi other than someone sketchy used your service and "your email domain is edgy, Nazi". He also critiqued some group in favor of mass migration or something. The funny thing is these are Germans, their country was literally run by Nazis and Communists so you'd think they'd have some idea of what Communism and Nazism were like.

The same thing has been going on in the FOSS community. I think a prime example of this (aside from high profile ousters including RMS himself) is the fact that 10-15 years ago the idea of a federated social media service was a cool way of fighting against social media monopolies. Then Mastodon was created as a "new" federated social media service, introduced instance blocking and got marketed as "Twitter without Nazis", and instances started blocking each other or edgy instances. To add to this, there was that time when F-Droid had to put out a public statement because one fediverse client decided to start blocking controversial instances and one didn't.

If an E-Mail or IRC client started blocking a controversial instance 10-15 years ago, people would be up in arms about it. Nowadays if you don't do that you're a literal Nazi and deserve to get blacklisted or beat up IRL.

I'm genuinely Mad At The Internet right now. The fight over email and remailers was probably the number one concern among hackers and computer activists in the 90s-early 2000s. Even if he is a nazi (he's not), it's no excuse. People are expressing concern over a service like cock.li existing at all.

Privacy protects bad people, but it also protects everyone from bad governments and corporations. These newer generation of activists seem to think that if we get rid of privacy and other freedoms, that it will only affect nazis and other bad guys, but we'll all be fucked.

They have inflated the user count in the past, but I'm not sure to the extent, or if they still do it.

Before Gab switched over to the fediverse and brought along the userbase it had, the largest instance was Pawoo. Pawoo and similar Japanese instances meant much of the fediverse userbase was in Japan and that these instances hosted pornography legal in Japan which included lolicon. Unsurprisingly, this has led to conflicts with the fediverse in general including Pawoo being blocked, silenced, or media blocked in most instances.

Instance fighting between admins in the form of blocks is also why it's hard to get into the fediverse unless you accept that half of the instances are going to be blocking you from the get go because of something someone else did. From what I heard that mindset is creeping over to Riot.im/Matrix as well.

Imagine getting mad and quite possibly almost attempting murder (based on Vincent's report of how they attacked his body) over some dude who hosts mildly edgy email domains. It's like wanting to knive a script kiddie because he printed out a hello world command saying "ur mom gay". I mean, come the fuck on.

If any of these harpies could actually provide info over the actual situation of why he got kicked out instead of bitching and moaning about muh nazis, we could at least understand the full picture. As of now, everything is saying that they caused this assault first over a completely demented motive.
