Recently saw this video in my recommended and, man, it's weird to watch it now considering Ian's recent metamorphosis into a sentient soybean.

To think of it, has every creator that collaborated with Joel had some kind of downfall/controversy? On top of my head:

Idubbbz - cucked,
Jerma - not exactly a controversy, but has been getting an obnoxious genderspecial fan base, streamed with Hasan and has advertised a camwhore website,
Pyrocinical - caught doing a furry brap ERP with a teenager,
Simpleflips - publically humiliated by a jealous girlfriend.
Hell, even Vinny had his own sex scandal.

How does the Swede avoid controversy while actively creating videos for over a decade? Don't wanna jinx it, but really hope it stays so until his last stream.

I'd say the fact that his audience likely slants younger contributes, as does the fact that he's foreign so any scandals will probably have to go through a third wheel (translations if those involved can't speak English too well/misunderstand some English words) that'll immediately land him with benefit of the doubt.
 
I decided against getting Tears of the kingdom cause it isn't really worth it to me right now especially at the increased price point but I'm happy for Vinny that he's having a good time with it.

I think that's what it is, he's a Swede. iDubbbz, Jerma, Simpleflips and Vinny are American, while Pyrocynical is British, they're all from the anglosphere. Joel is from Sweden, his native language is Swedish, he grew up in Sweden, and he lives in Sweden. He comes from a completely different cultural background than your regular anglosphere YouTuber so perhaps he's more aware of bullshit and actively tries to avoid it.

For all his fascination with America, he still has a sense of critique of the anglosphere and is aware of it's issues and how they tend to be treated as the norm. And I don't think it's the language barrier, because he never really uses Swedish in his online presence and he's very fluent in it. I'm capable of holding a conversation in English and I'm capable of fully understanding English to the point where I don't notice if something's in Polish or English on my screen.

Yet I'm aware of the pitfalls of the anglosphere culture because of being raised in an European country with it's own language and culture, so when I look at the anglosphere I look at it from an outsider's perspective which changes a lot, and I think it's the same for Joel. He sees it as an outsider so he's more aware of what can fuck you over and what can't, and how you should navigate your Internet career to not make it crash and burn overnight.

I figure it comes down to him giving off the impression that he doesn't care about those types of accusations, and his viewers leaning towards the 4chan side of things, probably because of the early chatango viewers he had being more eager to whip the newer twitch viewers into line. With those who don't lean that way not being bothered by the 4chan lite nature of his chat. His style of humor is also pretty heavily influenced by kønsrock, which probably drives away drama seeking types.

It also helps that he's from a different country where, contrary to what you'll hear, people just don't care about internet accusations or offense. As well as a chunk of his audience seemingly being from South America, and other places where people just don't get worked up over offensive stuff.

Contrast this with most of the others, whose viewers heavily cross over with tumblr, later twitter, and similar places. In the case of idubbbz it was more self-inflicted than anything.

he's one of many ex-dream smp members that now is gay, is always called "gender" (even though that terminology makes ZERO grammatical sense in the context used), and has an army of easily triggered fans to back him up. One of the most hilarious things I have ever seen was the leaked trigger warning list for his discord. Some of the triggers included:
Eye contact
JSchlatt
Memory Loss
Abuse (understandable to some degree, I guess)
Sex (???)
Diaries/Journals
Eating

...and many more *sigh*

It's giving him the kind of attention he  doesn't want. I'm actually surprised that no one who is publicly thirsting for Vinny after Generation Loss is foaming at the mouth because he was restrained on the carousel, because those kinds of people are always kinky bastards.

why did he even agree to this? He hates showing his face & knows that the teenage girls that interact with his content think he's hot. He quite literally just threw a canister of gasoline on a bonfire, especially with the pseudo-BDSM that was shown. bad move, vincent.

He claimed yesterday that he "didn't get paid". Massive L if that's true. I wouldn't interact with the ugly mask kid unless I was paid. What cracks me up also is people gassing up his role as if it didn't look and sound like porn acting.

He may have done it for free because Jerma and Criken seemed to have a hand in the writing/production of Generation Loss, those are his only real links to the project. That or Ranboo approached Vinny personally about it.
 
If this isn't peak Joel than I don't know what is.
