Joel's story about his dad calling him up because he was angry he couldn't fly IRL just like he had dreamed the night before might be my favorite Joel story. What's your favorite Joel story?

That time he played against a Japanese guy in the arcade then the guy came up to him and was all like “sugoi desu ne GG!” with Joel being equally as excited despite the language barrier.

He talked a couple of times how he had to on-the-fly censor his games so that his parents wouldn't think of them as inappropriate and take them away. GTA is actually a driving simulator where you stop at red lights.

There's another one where he told that he stayed over at his half-brother to play Silent Hill 2. The next day the whole family stopped by and the brother was beating the nurses with a steel pipe in the hospital level while the grandma was shouting that he is sick in the head.

I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion or not but I'm really not feeling any of the Tomodachi streams from Vinny, Joel or even Jerma this time around. Most of the "gameplay" is just watching them draw stuff. Vinny's last stream was almost an hour and a half of just drawing quietly. It's pretty tough to watch. I feel like the 3DS game had them actually interacting between the Miis more.
That's the main reason I got tired of the game myself. Too much focus on making things yourself, less on just having weird shit happen by chance. It loses a bit of the magic when things are directed, rather than by chance. You did still direct things by import miis in the first game, but it felt a bit more "natural" for lack of a better word. I don't know, the game is alright, but I got bored of it pretty quick.

I think not having to creatively work around a filter also sort of hurts it, to a certain extent. It's "too easy."

the one where he got stranded with no money and no phone and had to spend the night at a mcdonald's
or when he went to a chinese restaurant with his dad and they kept fucking up his steak (why would you order steak at an ethnic restaurant and expect it to be good lmao)
or where he played some hentai bootleg that his brother told him not to play and the story ended with "and then my dad turned to the dog and said 'if you're going to be, here act like people' and then i went home and had chicken mcnuggets"

Yeah this time around they spend more time making things than they do interacting with them - and then those interactions are hardly spontaneous. Oh wow the Bulk Bogan mii you made likes the workout magazine you added specifically for him? That's crazy. Glad we watched 45 minutes of quiet drawing to see that interaction happen.

This was the same with the new animal crossing game imo. Saw it on the streams too. Feels like Nintendo has gone downhill

Animal Crossing on the Switch is one of the most disappointing games of all time. You're no longer a fish out of water, trying to make his way in a quirky eccentric animal village, doing your best to carve out a little niche and make a living in this place that's actively hostile to your new presence and exists with or without you... you're the omnipotent god that gets his dick sucked by everyone, leveling buildings with a snap of your finger and deleting anybody who looks at you wrong.

When there's absolute and infinite freedom to do whatever you want, there's not much of a point in doing anything. The game just rolls over and lets you have your way with it. It's like when you were 12 and got an action replay and put god mode and moon jump cheats on and sucked all the fun out of super mario bros by removing any and all challenge.

The stories Joel tells about his family and how they instantly reject technology is interesting. I think his dad was like the only one that was O.K. with computers, but it also explains why Joel is the way he is with technology as well. He's also got that "old school" mindset where he believes yt-dlp is a virus because "you need to use the terminal". Also he needs his mods to help him with emulators sometimes.

I believe during his Banjo Kazooie streams he told a story where some junkie-looking guy sat next to him so Joel randomly started talking about drugs (aka, his medicine) to "appease him". Also funny was a comment he read from chat right after "Plot twist: He was more scared of you than you were of him".
