I dunno how it is for Joel cause I don't watch him but I always assumed for Vinny the streaming isn't really a fulltime job. Unlike other streamers I know he actively discourages donations and subs while also buying expensive shit like that Valve index, implying he's financially well off enough to not have to rely on those.

Joel and Vinny have such large audiences, it doesn't matter how much they discourage it because even the minority that do sub and donate are still large enough to supplement a full time streaming job. Can't exactly stop people from donating and subbing if they're determined enough (unless those are features that you can disable)

When did Joel start the "Joel tip of the day" at the end of streams?

and afaik both Joel and Vinny have bits disabled (I think?)

True, but as far as Joel goes—you can still gift subs to people. Which I think counts as donating.

At one point Twitch forced streamers meeting certain criteria to enable bits, Vinny told people "please don't" and he de-emphasizes bits by not calling them out, same as with subs.
Joel doesn't have bits on because he's Swedish and Twitch hasn't forced him to enable it.

Streaming for Vinny is a full-time job in the sense that he does not work any other job anymore, but you're right that he's not as reliant on the Twitch income as others may be. To my understanding (and take this with a grain of salt, cause I forget where I heard it), he already had a pretty good financial foothold from his savings/inheritance when he first started streaming, but worked a shitty public television job for years even while he'd started to take off in popularity. Once his streaming career became lucrative enough, he quit that job completely and made streaming his primary source of income, and he's now quite well-off just based on the payout from Twitch.

He's always discouraged the other streamers from requesting donations and has refused to accept them himself, so that lends some credence to the idea that he was already financially stable enough in his mid 20s to not need them. So I think that bits and things like that are just highly superfluous to him at this point, and honestly he probably finds it insulting/intrusive that almost every streamer on Twitch had the bits system forced upon them. (I know I would.)

Slight correction: he quit his public access job before the stream really became lucrative and opened a Patreon for about a month before feeling guilty about it and closing it down. No idea what his finances were actually like at the time but I remember there being a sense of urgency to make money another way shortly after quitting that job by doing freelance editing on the side since the job itself was getting to be too much for him to handle.

He REALLY hated work towards the end and would complain about it often after he got home on stream. I assume he wasn't completely financially stable at the time but he wanted out so badly that he took his chances with quitting the job sooner rather than later. Lucky for him it seemed to have panned out but it wasn't always the case where he didn't have to worry money whatsoever.

Sometimes people say he sounds dead inside today but I remember some years ago watching his stream of the first Tingle game, which he originally streamed in 2013, and there he legitimately sounds exhausted all the time. Dunno if he still had that shitty job but it wouldn't surprise me if he did and that's why he sounded like that. Compared to that I find his commentary way more high energy these days.

Working retail or other soul-draining jobs saps enjoyment from your life. Living in hell vs paradise has a noticeable effect on your mind.

This is really true. I was recently rewatching the highlights from his ACNL streams, and while all of them are pretty low-energy, there was one in particular (I forget which one, sadly) where he mentioned having a long day at work beforehand, and how he was straight up drained from it. You can really hear in his voice that he was dead tired. He does sound a bit dead inside nowadays, but it's nowhere NEAR the same as his post-work sound, and I can definitely relate as someone who worked a very similarly exhausting job for years. Even if he was getting bored of streaming (which does seem doubtful, but anything's possible), I don't think he'd go back to that kind of work for anything.

I remember a stream from a while back (unfortunately not sure of sauce - probably within the last two years, may have been a secret music stream) where Vinny was asked if he would quit streaming if Red Vox ever made it big. He replied with something along the lines of "Music is one of my biggest passions and I'd probably go out and tour if I was given the opportunity. However, I'm realistic about the fact that it probably won't happen, and even then, I'd still likely stream periodically anyways because I genuinely love doing it."

The dude really does enjoy streaming even if the chat drives him batty sometimes. From a mental health perspective, he definitely seems way better off from the earlier days of the stream. The fact he can't even force himself to take a vacation of more than 2-3 days should be considered evidence of that. I think it brings him some peace of mind and helps him relax.

So apparently after saying he wouldn't buy the NES lego set Vinny did end up buying and building the NES lego set. I guess Minecraft and DQ builders 2 were a prelude to him descending into block building madness.

Next he'll be acquiring that bootleg Millenium Falcon Lego set from Lepin. He seemed really interested in that.
He's not exactly the kind of guy who gets into woodcraft or outdoor hobbies that involve your hands, so if this is a physical activity that keeps his brain/hands occupied and away from the computer for a bit, that's fine with me.

Just don't start streaming Lego (insert movie here) games please

He said he was going to stream Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga when it comes out, so too late.

I'm sorry but I'm fucking dying at Vinny becoming a LEGO sperg

Out of all streamers in Vinesauce, the failed rockstar/womanizer turns aútistic in his late 30s.
