Violent muggings

Please understand three things from the start!

I am a EuroFag.

I am not anti gun, but I don’t think the general public should be allowed to carry them wherever they want without a good reason.

I am not accusing anyone of bullshit or plain invention. My experience in life is that everyone experiences things differently. No single person is the authority on what happens where and when.

One pro gun argument I have seen claimed is that responsible licensed open and conceal carry people often have to stop muggers and the like, but these don’t get recorded as the villain normally just flees, thus no police action is required.

Even anecdotally, how often does this happen?

Again, being a euro fag I have lived in some European shithole cities and districts.
The few times I was confronted by pieces of shit looking to either rob me or beat me up for kicks, I can think of one in which if I had a gun it would have de-escalated the situation.

But all others, I was outnumbered, surrounded and by the time their intent was clear, I wouldn’t have had time to draw it, without at least one of them grabbing or stabbing me from behind.

I was confronted by one group with at least one armed person, but being alone and in a strange town, I fled.

So how common is it for the average, New Yorker, Texan, Appalachian or Okie to quick draw and deal with a meth head?

Wanting the ability to defend yourself against unwarranted/unprovoked aggressor(s) is a very good reason.

Ever heard the expression 'rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it'? I'll bet you have. You understand it on a conceptual level, don't you? So much that I'm sure you'll bring an umbrella in the event you so much as suspect that it might rain while you're out and about.

Good luck kiwibro.

This is what I mean. How often does it really happen?

Me and my experience are outliers, as most people from my background might get mugged once and probably won’t get assaulted for no reason after the age of 18 or so.
Before the age of 18, kids from other schools or social groups might jump you for points.

People who come from poorer backgrounds, it might happen a bit more.

It’s most common if you are regularly in places you are not known in.
For instance, rugby players from my uni were most reported being mugged, as they were heavy drinkers, but also made the mistake of thinking that being a big strapping lad would put off the local scumbags.
The scumbags used numbers. Maybe a gun would equal things up, but as I say, this was a situation which they had been drinking.

In the city no one is gonna stop a mugging. I see a mugging I'm gonna just duck behind something so the guy doesn't see me. It's why I carry my stuff in a disposable plastic bag from the bodega instead of a purse and never carry cash. Less risk.

In Philly there was a rape on a commuter train earlier this year. You know what people did? They filmed it. No one dogpiled this guy to get him off the woman. And no one called the police until 45 minutes in. It was like 15 train stops before police got him at the other end of the line. Therefore the crime happened in two jurisdictions because the rape started outside the city and ended in the city when he was finally arrested. Since then there have been multiple train rapes or rapes at the stations. No one shot the attacker. It's like unscripted reality TV. They just gawk and film.

Gun control issues are different for cityfags. A lot of people here don't seem to understand that. We're tired of the gunfire and sirens all night long. This isn't Uncle Jed and Jethro shootin' up some vittles so please don't take my rifle. This is kids being murdered. Me being armed won't save me from being hit by stray bullets as I walk to the store to buy a carton of eggs. And earlier this summer I narrowly missed being caught in a shooting. Had I left the house half an hour earlier I would have walked right into it.

That said I don't believe gun control measures will get guns off the street. It's unfortunately heavily tied to thug life culture and that also needs to be addressed. Locally people know what's going on. Nationally it doesn't fit the narrative so they blame the guns without addressing the driving force behind all the shootings.

But getting back to the muggings, they can happen anywhere. But it's more likely in high crime areas. Especially if you look like you have stuff worth stealing. Being a woman makes it worse regardless though. There are streets I try to avoid and I don't go out at night alone if I don't have to.

I'm just glad I don't drive. Because I have "Please carjack me" written all over. Carjackings here are prevalent. Enough that the church daycare has a sign up warning parents to be careful.

And here come sirens right now. That's a lot of sirens too.

You are less likely to be mugged if you are thought of as a hard target. Being armed is an example of being hardened.
Most gun crime is committed by criminals with illegal firearms, gun control does nothing but disarm law-abiding citizens.

Ideally if someone tries to mug/rape/assault someone they just get shot in the spine.

This is impossible to answer beyond my own personal existence for the 38 years I've been on this planet. We're individuals above all else. Some questions cannot be answered in a 'one-size-fits-all' fashion as the question itself is entirely subjective to the individual being asked to answer it. As is the case here.

I'll give you a snarky generalized answer though - it happens as often as it happens. 8)
