General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

It saddens me a bit because i actually like Gura and even though i don't watch her often, i can understand how people really likes her outside of the memey stuff. As someone once mentioned in the thread, there's a method to her madness, because memes alone are very short lived and that she's got something for her to maintain her popularity for this long. But you're right about that stuff you said about the youtube algorithm favoring her content as safe content creator. I don't even think she's a horrible person just because she has such a large and loud following, and im sure nobody here thinks so either. It's just that she grew way too fast to foster a natural fanbase over time. Hell, even the other EN's have that, but the chumbuds feel much more disorganized. Not to concernfag, but i wonder she feels burdened because she reached the same success as she did as Senzawa in such a short time.
She really didn't make it hard to find out that she's actually Sen. Bunch of clips comparing the two also did wonders, like people clipping her talking about the plural of "moose" which was a meme from her days as Sen. Same with her singing "I Wanna Be A Cowboy" and then suddenly playing Red Dead. I'm not a fan of her but I appreciate her stuff, but her fanbase is so fucking insufferable. I would say Kiara has the most tolerable extreme fans since they're all kind of in on her joke and ironically play into the idea of being a cult. I don't know enough about Ame's regulars, but I have heard horror stories about the more unhinged takodachis. Even the Deadbeats can be really fucking bad, so I just stick to my close friends within that community and keep everyone else at arm's length.

I will say she's consistent, which is why people like her. She doesn't really have an "off day" so to speak. I'm not sure if her concurrent viewers have gone up in proportion to her subscriber count, but I'm guessing her regular viewership has grown at a much slower rate than her subscriber count since most people only sub to her for the meme clips. She also has the (on average) youngest fanbase, or at least the fanbase with the most shallow pockets. Calli makes so much fucking money it's insane, while Gura's take is criminally low. I forget who posted numbers but a lot of Gura's fans don't actually pay for her content, while with Calli it's more or less people will throw tons of money at her regularly.
I will admit that sometimes fall into the numbers mindset. Gen 1 HoloID are my oshis, and for a while deep down i was a little upset that they've always been sidelined, especially Iofi who's got less subscribers despite collabing with people left and right. It also initially hurt a bit seeing HoloEN blast through the ID's numbers in a week. But if Iofi is okay with having a smaller dedicated fanbase and being a stepping stone for her kouhais, then i guess i should stop concernfagging so much
Try being a fan of Holostars when watching fucking YAGOO get to 100k faster than 7 out of the 9 boys. It's fucking painful.
Blame Coco for that, half the sub is just trying to get noticed by her and get on her next meme review episode.
The subreddit was like that before she jumped in, and all she's doing has actually caused the base to grow. I honestly don't resent her for it; it was smart as fuck and it's not really her fault the fanbase is dumber than a box of rocks.

I would've thought it'd be Ame > Gura > Kiara > Mori > Ina in terms of fanbase toxicity. Kinda surprised seeing your take on Ina's fanbase. I would've thought they'd be the most levelheaded one out of the EN fanbases. While I would consider myself a Calli fan, I don't really interact with her fanbase, or any fanbase for that matter so I'm surprised with that too. Mind sharing your stories?

Nice art, but I think the allegory is rather confused. What great sin did Coco tempt Gura, or perhaps EN, into committing? What's the big fall from grace being alluded to here?

Maybe if Gura and Coco collab with each other? If they collab in the same stream then it could cause a shitstorm by those chinks in addition to how Gura's chat can behave. But maybe not if both streamed separately then it's fine.

Also I wouldn’t mind if there was a thread for EN VTuber drama or daily bullshit. With yesterday’s mess I can agree that it clutters things up.
The ENtuber drama does clutter things up a bit, but it's good to get an occassional briefing on how shit they are. Contain it and that thread will be a fountain of shit that i think most browsers here aren't going anywhere near. Necessary evil, I think.

Marine, Coco, Kanata, Watame, Matsuri, and Miko have all expressed the same sentiment that Akai Haato is their personal oshi within Hololive. Haachama is the idol's idol.

Maybe the distance that comes from only meeting in person about once a year until recently has something to do with it. Miko said that she still feels nervous talking to Haachama in person because she sees her as a idol.
The great mystery of Haachama. Tokino Sora has a similar intimidating reputation but that one can be explained, Haachama on the other hand not really. She must have built quite a reputation before her descent, but it's hard to grasp how. She was never as famous as Fubuki or Miko, and not as experienced as Sora or Suisei. In terms of singing, dancing or any of the other "idol" things, she is definitely good, but not head and shoulders above the others like that reputation would imply.

My best guess is that she's either a completely different person IRL, or it's something intangible that I can't grasp. Maybe she somehow appeals to women?

Part of it is imposter syndrome, part of it is being the de facto face of Hololive, part of it is trying not to be Senzawa v2. It keeps her restrained - in some ways that's not a bad thing. Definitely stressful, though. I hope she uses the chance to show people more sides of herself, in a good way.

Wouldn't say there's anything to hide at this point. Basically all of Senzawa's fanbase knows she's Gura, it's impossible to keep things under wraps when one syllable of her voice can identify her.

It's quite a shame, honestly. I feel the issue is that vtubers as a whole have a predominantly straight-male audience, so it's hard for a male character to thrive in the scene. Now, if there was a way to pull fans en masse from kpop boy bands or elsewhere... maybe. As far as I know fujoshis are quite passionate, but they're a small minority, aren't they?

Behind the scenes, she seems incredibly supportive of everyone. I think the off collab she did with Kanata and Coco shed light on it a bit, even though I only remember bits and pieces. One of the things that stuck with me though was Kanata saying that while she was in the hospital, Haachama would be on the phone for 8+ hours regularly just trying to keep her company. Plus it's obvious Haachama is just a personality a la Filthyfrank but rumors of how smart she is in real life vary greatly, but most people think she's incredibly intelligent. Which considering she's one of the youngest members of Hololive with maybe the only exception being Shion, that's pretty damn impressive.

Stream in question:
There really are some parts where Coco and Kanata show their genuine affection and gratitude for her.

There is a clip of Marine saying that when she debuted, one of the Hololive managers told her to use Haato as an example of the ideal idol. So it's wasn't just the talent who thought highly of Haato. It's kinda how in HololiveEN I've heard from several of them say that Watson is the most helpful and supportive behind the scenes even though her public persona is the toxic gamer gremlin.

Vtuber is the new Fursona.
To make matters worse, many people are using furry characters already. Furry vtuber doing speedrunning was one of the most horrifying things I have ever seen.

I agree with the reply - if you want to spread out your sperging, write a letter to your vtuber, buy a gift (has someone bought a Switch for Coco already) or express your dedication in a creative way. This guy is creepy and gives off vibes of committing not alive in foreseeable future.

there are different ENMA's for each of the girls
I remember a clip of Marine telling the audience about her meeting with ENmanager, but if I understand correctly (my Japanese is still Genki tier), she does not mention the gender at all and the image of a blonde guy the clipper has added isn't helping. And if her story is true and not played just for laughs, EN manager may be a memer/hornyposter.

Back when Luna was doing her sweets parties, I had considered sending her a little package of local New England stuff like Fluff and Necco wafers and maple cookies, just to see what her thoughts on them were.

also, not a fan of Hero Hei at all, and way too much of his stuff is milking inane shit. But it’s his schtick and this is probably more worthy of being dumped on than a lot of his Hololive vids.
Haachama had announced a contest where you could show her around the place you live, but sadly it was cancelled (I think it was too much to sit through with potential yabais hidden in the videos, but some creations I've seen were great). I was toying with the idea of printing some pictures, writing something and sending, but eventually decided that nobody really cares, including me.
And I agree with your opinion on Hero Hei, I consider him to be just a ragebaiter similar to Doomcock - luring people angry at something not really important, blowing it out of proportion and telling people what they want to hear about the topic.

In between the indie drama storm and Gura's 2 mil talk and stream I offer a timely chan report. Pretty much confirmed my personal suspicions that it was less than 10 people still mad over Coco.View attachment 1853855
I really hope this is true, as it's way funnier to me than I would like to admit. (I wish I were fluent in Chinese to read this stuff myself.) I'm just wondering: I'm sure there is at least one sane person there who understands the situation: that Cover has been bullied away from China by aggressive hiveminded retards and their efforts to "destroy" Coco are in most cases laughable, but nobody listens to him/her.

what about that guy who's rumored to sleep with lots of indies vtubers there and has link with Artia? Is he still around the gayop?
There was one guy here and he was posting around the time I started lurking in this thread and seemed to have a real hateboner for Artia - he was writing about this Chinese guy and posted a picture of a supposed Artia's roommate. Are you still with us, @Anon2411?

I think an EN holostars group could actually be amazing.
Not to mention that Holostars JP is gaining some traction as well I think - of course they are nowhere the popularity of the girls (duh), but Rikka got 100k subs recently as 2nd member of Holostars, after our winning son. If Cover learns from the mistakes with Holostars JP, I'm sure they can make a successful Holostars EN group.

Also she's really good at steering the conversation, like this video here where she switched from harassing Okayu to roasting Noel
Marine is great at speaking, interacting with the chat, taking the conversation exactly where she wants it. Embraces the memes ("horny", "boomer pirate") and takes them where she wants them to be. One million subs well earned.

Well, she did admit that the "Haachama" name was to make people worship her less. It logically follows that "Haachama" as a whole is the same. It seems that she succeeded, if the others aren't scared to shittalk her. Basically Polka before Polka, an incredibly smart person taking on the mantle of a clown. Next we're going to find out she can actually cook properly and tarantula is delicious.

On a related note, one of the songs in her short videos is Dance of the Knights apparently.

She created a brand within a company, produces content and memes that transcend the language barrier (without the help of translators), knows when to put on the Haato or Haachama face when needed, and did all of this while stranded in a foreign country in High School. She even took the biggest trolls her fanbase sent at her (the horny posting, the creepy factor, the bad cooking, etc. . .) and just sent it right back as new content. There is a good reason that I believe her and Coco are becoming more opening friendly, outside of the shared trench. That gal is based and smart.

Since all the lurkers are coming out the woodwork today figured I might as well finally take the leap as well.

Re: Gura and her popularity, it's debatable exactly how much the Youtube algorithm assists her growth. It has a noticeable effect yes, but it wouldn't be sustainable without the personality and commitment she has. She's got a level of dorkiness coupled with ribbing capability (e.g. burnt mac & cheese, pizza in the tub, calling out her chat at times) and lack of ego that gives her major crossover appeal between normies, the Twitch crowd, and dedicated vtuber fans. Couple that with her streams being in English and I'm not shocked she exploded so quickly. Someone mentioned her being a gateway which she's arguably the ideal one at this stage,

Also I'm somewhat partial towards her because I find her memes are less forced and funnier than Coco's these days.

I'm not sure why people think she will run out of memes when out of all of them, we have evidence she can produce memes once or twice a month if she sees fit. That's excluding the deleted videos.

rumors of how smart [Haachama] is in real life vary greatly, but most people think she's incredibly intelligent.
I'd say she's an entertainment genius.

She 180'd the whole "hey can you send feet pics" meme on her audience and made an entire stream of "no, fuck you, YOU send ME feet pics, and I'll review them!"

She tried doing a few cooking streams where she revealed just how actually bad of a cook she is, but could only carry that meme so far with generic "I'm bad at cooking but it's ok" videos, so she started leaning into how bad she could make food, and eventually started turning cooking streams into crazy ingredient streams what with the Tarantula, protein insects, and now a scorpion. Now they're a staple of her content.

All of that, and she can still put on a good show if she wants to turn down the crazy a notch, and she even developed a secondary character for it, people know Haachama as the crazy one, but Akai Haato when she just wants to be cute and cuddly like when collabing with EN talent like Ame or Ina. Granted, Haachama was the invention, but she realized enough that Haachama is the one that brings people in, so now the channel itself is "Haachama".

I never even watch her, but there's no denying Haachama has cracked this game wide open.

I’m hesitant on that being a suitable source of fans to pull from. I guess it would be good for the holostars guys to get more fans, but those people are just as crazy as the indie vtubers if not crazier.
Meanwhile:

Probably gets more sympathy than the guy thinking that Cover will kill off Coco and magically return to them despite burning every single bridge they had, if only because they understand his pain.

Correct, that is Ruki, an utaite. They have known eachother for a long time (way before Aloe). Ruki recently became a Vtuber herself.

Ah ok. I saw the name when I translated Delu’s tweet but wasn’t sure on her name cause translator did the old L and R mix up so I didn’t want to mess it up. I skimmed through a singing stream and she’s pretty good. Even does the voice changer like Delu so Im hopeful for some good vocaloid song collabs on stream if possible.
