Didn't see a thread on this, so I figured I'd make one.

What do you consider to be a virtue? Do you fit your own definition? Is it alright for others not to follow them? It doesn't have to be strictly religious, just a trait that you think has moral superiority.

Humility is a huge virtue. And pridefulness a cardinal sin. Virtually any evil act has ties to someone's sense of pride. Remaining humble; not boasting of yourself, and not seeking approval/power over other people, goes hand-in-hand with righteousness.

In this society, the exact opposite is encouraged. Everything is competition, recognition, and domination. We seek social status and fame. Success is judged by how well you are recognized by others. This mentality creates ego monsters, who serve themselves and view others as competition.

Is it any wonder why when the law turns away crime runs rampant? When New York had a power outage for a few hours in 1977, the looting and vandalism caused 300 million in damages (in 1977 dollars!).

Patience.
Everyone is looking for instant gratification now. Go to school or drop out of high school so you can make money instantly? Go to the grocery store and pick seperate ingredients to cook a meal at home, or buy a Big Mac?
Even our socialization had become impatient. Why hasn't this person read my text? Why hasn't soandso liked my Facebook post with them mentioned in it? Why is this asshole taking so long to answer my question?
I'm aware that impatience is not a phenomenon cultivated only recently by our obsession with technology, but it's certainly added to it.

We need to slow down and enjoy life for what it is, not rush to the end.

Compassion.
Just helping out a person in need, especially without the need for some sort of self-gratification and rather being done because you feel like you know how it feels to be in their situation.

The one virtue we need most in this modern world - that isn't one of the Seven Heavenly Virtues - is being rational.

You need look no farther than the SJW thread to see why we need more rational people. The ability to take something in stride and realize that a joke involving a man in drag is not something to blow up about is sorely needed these days...

Yes, rationality is a virtue that would no doubt be needed. Just having the virtue to dwell on something and know to the best of our thoughts what is right and wrong, what is a joke that isn't really trans-soggy knees. Being rational itself is something that is available to everyone but unfortunately, it isn't used by all, especially the likes of those that just want to accuse of something being bad.

prudence is being rational

I would say that more generally the most important virtue is the ability to overcome erroneous thought processes. Be those ones that cause procrastication or akrasia or poor judgement. All of these problems stem from our minds naturally not functioning correctly and needing conscious correction
