You're probably right, it's likely more difficult to inject woke shit into them since they seem to come from smaller companies that probably don't ride the DEI dick.
With indies maybe, but AI: The Somnium Files had woke shit and Danganronpa had a terrible fanbase. I doubt that much companies cater to DEI as people like to think, and instead it's the writers just believing the gospel.
This one ended appearing on my discovery list on steam and added it to wishlists out of curiosity. Mind giving a very high level pitch? Also, is it one of those VN where I need to download some random uncensoring patch?
Literal game of Mafia/Werewolf (of course it's not randomized like Gnosia). It's overall good, and I don't want to spoil anything by talking about it too much.

It really is refreshing how creatively uncompromised VNs/eroge are compared to any other relatively niche medium. Even bigger and more popular works in the medium such as Subahibi are seemingly completely unrestrained in what they can write about and how far they can go about writing it. It does suck that a lot of it can't be allowed on modern storefronts such as Steam for easy access but as long as Nyaa is around this isn't the end of the world.

It's why I like the medium. VN or small indie ganes are the only places you can see completely unshackled/unhinged stuff since it can perfectly be a 1-3 man operation.

I'm also a sucker for Danganronpa. Would this one scratch the itch. Have played through like the first 2 big chapters of Rain Code but it ain't scratching the itch and is in the "come back to some day" pile.
Raincode got better as it went on, but it was much more simplistic then Danganronpa was.

This song is my pitch:

But yeah, the game feels genuinely tense, especially if you like certain characters, and honestly they're all pretty likable or at least interesting. It's like a mix of Ace Attorney and Danganronpa with a bit of Death Note (once this one character really gets involved you'll see what I mean).

Somnium was disappointing to hear about, I remember looking forward to it a lot. I'm not familiar with the Danganronpa fanbase, I suppose I'm lucky. Are there any others though? I can't really think of any. Maybe Steins;Gate with the pseudo tranny, that part didn't sit well with me.

Oh shit, how did I forget The House in Fata Morgana?! It's unfortunately excellent up until the tranny twist and you literally get a woke gender identity lecture by the tranny's brother that reads exactly like tweets by a woketard. It's the most cringe shit ever.

Steam allows literal porn games, it's crazy to me some of the stuff they disallow.

I said it before ITT, but it's because of two reasons:
1. As with everything internet, there's a biased administration willing to give their own degenerate fetishes a pass while clamping down on all other ones. If I'm not mistaken in the case of Steam it is furfags and genderspecials.
2. Steam has had some issues with people trying to push eroge/eroge-adjecent VNs which feature school-aged characters into their store in the past. Case in point, Key to Home

I peeked in the Steam board in case I saw anything about downloading a patch or anything of the sort and just saw a lot of whining about "bad ending". Avoiding spoilers, the ride still worth it?

Then I guess that means somebody at Valve has a thing for Nazi waifus since there's several of them on there lol. But seriously though, you're probably right.

Those cases are understandable at least.

I wouldn't say it was a bad ending, but it's weaker than the beginning and middle. Even then it's good, it's just certain revelations are controversial, it just depends on how you take it. I would've liked it to be handled a little differently but it's not like objectively bad or anything.

It's not bad in the sense of being a subversion of expectations or having some needlessly dark outcome. More that the explanations of events happening being pretty mid. It's like having a really good mystery novel but the final revelation being that the villain did it with magic, and while it's not that magic wasn't revealed to exist, you really hoped it would be something more grounded.

Thanks for the warnings. I'm still curious enough to get it, but knowing to expect the true to Japan fumbling of the ending is nice to temper expectations.

Im a little over 2 hours in White Album remake. Really good VN. Controls are solid. The Yuki route is good so far. Added some conflict with the manager lady, so thats fun. Really its a enjoyable little VN for winter.

Anyone here play anonymous;code? One of my favorite entries in the SciADV series, though I loved all of them.

Anyway, the past couple of days I've been really itching to find a new VN to play. Mystery+romance is my favorite genre but I'm open to anything that's not just a cheesy slice of life dating sim. Any recommendations?

I’ll second muv luv, and though the first part is definitely Romcom slice of life it is setting you up for things to come. It’s worth it and hits really, really hard. It’s dna is in many stories you see nowadays.

I haven’t done anon code yet, finished chaos head and am on my way through steins gate at the moment. It’s amazing how much better the s;g VN is over the (excellent) anime.

The story for FGO isn't really worth sitting through before Camelot. Wanna know what you need to know for ch 1-5? There's a fat asshole named Solomon, he makes massive evil dick towers called Demon Pillars. This somehow causes an end of the world scenario. Also, Jeanne Alter is cool, but she doesn't become a real character until after Orleans.
I neglected to mention this back when we were talking about FGO, but... Fuck Fairies. I didn't understand the true racist spirit of the righteous Christian soldier until I met them in Fae Britain. I understand now.
