One question about Utawarerumono though, is there branching and is it linked to the events you pick when prompted? At first it just seemed like eventually you would see all but I finally got one where if I did A, I would not see B or C. Just want to get a simple idea of the game structure. Also, in these divergent points, should I save scum to see al scenes, or just save and let it play out till I have to replay? Also, should I keep a save for every decision or is there a developed scene jumping system that makes it unnecessary?
Last I recall you can unlock some minor scenes based on your decisions but the overall narrative doesn't change.

It's only extra scenes, just pick your waifu and go with it. Uta might be the only game I remember where the devs had enough balls to have a canon love interest in the game that has impact on the sequel (kinda).

Thanks, I'll go with reload and watch all scenes then.
What would you guys reccomend as starter VN? Some told me about Fate or Steins:Gate.
Both are great, but also long and both are some of the halmarks of the genre. I'm tempted to suggest something shorter to start. Katawa Shoujo like suggested by @Señora Airi or Snoot Game are pretty short and though western made catch the spirit of the genre well. Both are also free and both can be played on phone if you search a bit.

They are both slice of life/romance though, in case that's something that doesn't interest you.

If you're more inclined to go "balls deep" into the medium, I think the Tsukihime remake can be a decent starting point. It's only two routes, so it's not that long; and it can act as a good sampling platter for the kind of stories that VN's have to offer. But, if you want a short one, Planetarian is excellent.

From how it looks to me, Muv Luv should have stuck to multiple universes deal than try to focus entirely of the BETA, which has some cool designs but the game already done most of what's possible.
I would say that I feel bad but the NFTs + Shitty Gacha Game + Shitty Anime really didnt do this series any favors. Also the botched rerelease of KimiNozo where certain routes were cut sucked too.
Shitty Gacha Game is an understatement, it's a legendarily shitty gacha game that stopped services after a day. I actually watched Alternative anime before the VN and it was meh, kickass opening song though.

Also now starting Alternative after MiSide was a dud and Blade Chimera is so boring I might return it to the store.

God I wasn't even referring to that one I was referring to Project Mikhail which was also a complete flop. I cannot understate how much the series has just been shooting itself in the foot since like 2020. You'd think it was on purpose.

Also any opening for Alternative that isn't Roar to the Future is immediately shit. That opening was so good Kouki was willing to lose his house to get it licensed.

It’s amazing that they fucked up their gacha game as bad as they did - from what I’ve heard, they essentially had a vampire survivors type game before the genre existed, and they managed to ruin it.

It’s a shame to see such a great series die a horrible death.

I know almost none of us read this VN since 99% of us don't know Japanese but this opening goes hard. It's a shame the premise for it is not up my alley at all.

They're coping that the crowdfunding goal was just for funsies and that the gacha is going to come in clutch with the funds. Owari da.

Those two work. Muv Luv. Katawa Shoujo was the first one I read through.
Obviously I like Muv Luv but its kind of a big investment for someone who may or may not even like VN. having to sit through Extra filters a lot of people. I'd Recommend Saya no Uta or Narcissu as others have said ITT

My favourite Visual Novel genre is "busty woman explaining temporal physics"

For the longest time I've been following /vg/'s guide to VN recommendations after I finished reading Umineko. Keep in mind that this guide is close to a decade old but I'd still say it's good. Also check VNDB as there is always some new patch or version that makes the reading experience that much better.
