If you can stand the remake's art style - you could read that. I believe they removed most of that shit.
I tried that game some time ago, but I really couldn't handle the crappy point & click game-play segments. The game just expects you to interact with everything multiple times until your allowed to proceed.
They didn't (unless the original was even worse). It's really irritating and made me drop the game. That, and the story didn't really go where I was told it was going to go. It felt like I was just running errands between people while skipping class and there was very little in terms of actual adventure.

I later learned it really is just waifu point and click until the last 30 minutes where it suddenly turns into a medieval sci fi time travel thriller and all the actual plot is crammed into that last section? That sounds awful. I would have been pissed if I spent 20 hours doing that only to be rewarded with what seemed like the author going "hory shittu! I forgot I was writing a scifi VN!"

Nasu really has a thing for wholesome chungus dudes who are secretly badass killers. The scene where Shiki goes apeshit on the dogs and talks about how he's killed before and has flashbacks to violent shit from his childhood reminded me Soujuuro from Witch on the Holy Night. And of course Shirou Emiya although Shirou's less vicious when he fights.
Being the secret badass is peak adolescent male fantasy.

It probably blew the mind of gamers 40 years ago but today it's a meh twist that isn't worth the suffering of the 20 hours of the worse kind of point and click.

tbh it's the peak male fantasy no matter what age
Carved in stone.

If I had somehow ran into tsukihime in middle school, I know I would have imprinted on shiki just like every dent head walking the halls with a hot topic Naruto headband strapped to their arms. And I would have been a real dick head about it too. Hell, I'm still kind of a dick head about it.

Um how far did you get? There's story part 1 where you're in school, romance a few girls, learn the secrets. And then oh boy does it get crazy from there. And then gets even crazier. And ever more nuts.

I played it via the remake, I know a lot of people have misgivings about the change in style but I feel like it looks really good even if it loses some of the charm and uniqueness. And of course it smooths over some of the frustrations of playing the game.

You killed Lancer, you bastard!

If I remember correctly Hollow is some timeline where nobody died and all the plot threads got resolved semi peacefully.
I've heard that about it. Lots of time hijinks and shit to make it happen, but it is the good end to the war.

I definitely got to the part where crazy stuff happens on the island. I think I stopped shortly after he sleeps with his teacher again? I totally get where people are coming from with the premise being exciting. It's just that then things immediately went back to being slow and meandering so I looked up if I was just being impatient and read that it never really picks up until the last hour or so.

No, that's not the crazy part. The part you call the "last hour" is like at least half the game, maybe 2/3 depending on your pace through ADMS. I don't know why it gets labelled as an epilogue in walkthroughs and etc.

Damn, I guess I'm gonna have to get a replay of FSN in once I finish Tsukihime so I can go into Hollow Ataraxia correctly. I actually haven't played FSN remastered yet despite it being in Steam library since launch (played the fan-translated Realta Nua version ages ago and wasn't in a rush to boot it back up) so it'll be neat to see what's been added/changed.

Oh damn, I'll put this back on my queue then since I was wrong. I appreciate the heads up.

Lancer is just best charecter. Dies every route, still remembered fondly. I hope in hollow he has a better ending than stay night lol
Yeah, in Hollow, he gives off a lot of Zhuang Zhou vibes.
Just finished the Arcueid route of Tsukihime remake. Pretty fucking incredible.
I'm not touching the remake until I get my Yumizuka route. I was so mad it never was in the original. The foundation for it was literally there, and it never fucking happened. I will wait as long as I need. 10, 20 years - I don't care. Besides Lancealot, she's one of the most tragic characters in the Nasu-verse.
