VPNs

Related to this. Any idea of what to use on an android phone for extra privacy ?

As stated above, PIA allows 5 or 10 devices at once I think, and it is android and iOS compatible. Also PIA has an option where instead of paying for X devices you can just pay to run it on your router and everything on your network is covered. IIRC Nord also has mobile apps.

Remember rule 1 of ANY software: If you are not the customer, YOU ARE THE PRODUCT. Nothing on planet earth is free. If you find """free""" VPNs or anti virus it's either adware, spyware, or both, which completley defeats the purpose. Shell out the $3/mo.

Another thing, a lot of youtubers like Booger1488 shill Nord or PIA and have a discount code if you plug it in. Yeah fatass gets some pennies but if you're going to shell out the money for one, might as well plug in some letters and get if for less money. Always go with the longest term option, paying month to month for VPNs is silly, and as more people use them and they offer more features, their prices may increase, buying 2 years of PIA at $2.60/mo is a lot better than paying like $6/mo to month and then it goes up to $8 or whatever in half a year.

OH GOD THANK YOU BRO. I originally used it back in highschool to get pass the school districts servers. I always thought it was decent because of that but I was so wrong. Big ups man.

Here's a very good resource for beginners to online privacy. An important thing to understand is that if you're using Tor, you should always be doing so with a VPN. Simply being a Tor user places you under a certain amount of suspicion. Personally, I like the Brave browser. It's made by the former Mozilla CEO, who was kicked out for being antihomo. It's also compatible with all of the recommended add-ons in the link I posted. And it gives you the ability to open Tor windows as a built-in function. I also prefer Startpage to DuckDuckGo because of the shady history of the latter's CEO.

As far as VPNs go, I had a good experience wth NordVPN (it fooled Netflix and a few of the IPs were even able to post on 4chan for a while), but wound up switching to a different provider because they blocked the Daily Stormer when it was going through its domain troubles. The fact that a VPN provider would independently decide to block a site based on politics is a bridge too far for me.

Not all VPNs are trustworthy. :(
IPVanish “No-Logging” VPN Led Homeland Security to Comcast User

Can you recommend a good logless vpn for Europe based people? Mainly from mobile iOS if that makes any difference.
Mullvad or airvpn or perfect privacy. But they are good anywhere in the world. Nord is OK, so is PIA.
Here is a review - and some tips on how to test the VPN and your browser: https://torrentfreak.com/vpn-services-keep-anonymous-2018/
The important things to remember are that ToR is not as anonymising as people think - there are heaps of cases where people have been found even though they are using ToR.
And there are ways to identify a person if they are using a VPN that does not keep logs.
The question is whether it is worth the security service's effort to find out who you are. Do bad shit and you become interesting to them. But posting here non threatening stuff, and you should be OK.

Here are some sites to use to test your browser and your VPN:
Main this is to read up, check and experiment.
I use firefox, and use different profiles for different activities. For KF, I have a profile configured using these guides [though not all of each one]:

So hey, anyone in here have experience with the CyberGhost VPN? I'm using their FireFox extension ATM, but I'm considering a full year when I get a chance.

Used it a few years back, didn't like the software. I've seen mention that they connect hardware fingerprints and engage in logging above what most providers that claim to maintain minimal logs will collect, though most of those VPN review sites are just run as marketing for a particular VPN or as a way to collect affiliate commissions from multiple VPN providers.

That aside, they are owned by Israelis, so would be a strong disrecommend for me unless you don't care about your privacy.

Private Internet Access and NordVPN have cleaner hands as far as that sort of stuff goes, and have either had their no logs policies audited or seemingly proven safe in court. If you do go with Cyberghost, it might be better to set it up with a standard OpenVPN client to minimize the information they can get from you.

Honestly, I only turn it on when I'm looking at you guys. But unless the Erverlord manages to tick off the rest of the world any more, I may just stick to the add-on while I do some more homework on that.

My techie friends tell me you are better off getting a VPN with a separate app, rather than using something in a browser. As for Cyberghost. It does produce a seperate app - but this review pans them: https://restoreprivacy.com/cyberghost/

You could lose your mind working through them.
But, as 3119967d0c said, Nord, PIA are OK. I'd also consider airvpn (run by a bunch of Italian anarchists), Mullvad (run by guys formerly tied up with the pirate bay) and Perfect Privacy. VPNArea also is popular with some folks, as is Express.
Here is Sven's list: https://restoreprivacy.com/best-vpn/
The comments sections is also very informative.

After Nulls recent announcement about getting a VPN I finally went and got one (InternetPrivateAccess). Wanted to do it for years but I was lazy and never really needed it.

Anyway I'm curious if there are ways to still leak your IP even on a VPN? I think I remember reading something about it but I'm not sure.
Is a VPN enough or should I make extra steps? If so, what?
Ubuntu Linux, Brave browser, paid VPN service and I think you should be good without making the simple task of browsing the internet total hell. That's all I need, anyway

Shan't be trusting my data to a company that sold out to an israeli owned company who injected malware to the point it was named after them

I'll revise my opinion. Cyberghost itself had a spotty reputation but it's been flat out sold to a malware distributor. Not surprising since it is in Romania, which is the Nigeria of Europe. I'd say stay entirely away from PIA.

Too bad it was cheap and reliable.
