If you have a brand new account with a "Visitor" trust rank virtually everyone in VRChat has your avatar hidden, probably has you muted, and will ignore you if they don't.

The only "people" you'll be able to troll are quest kiddies in public lobbies who don't know they're being trolled and who don't know better than to ignore visitors.

Not only that, but 90% of them aren't even in a public world at all. They are in a private world, that can only be joined by a link from a private invite only discord. And getting access to those discords means months of worming your way into someone's inner circle.

The truly vile places are hidden behind many closed doors, which should scare you when what is in the open is already scary as fuck.

Even seeing fucked up avatars. Most people who commission have the avatar set to private, with cloning (copying the avatar yourself) turned off. The only way to find them is the very low chance they come up hitting random while scrolling avatar search worlds. These are things people pay >$2000~ for.

Also, most +18 discords require full government identification to be shown. To filter out people underage, but also acts as a powerful blackmailing technique. If you want to leak this shit, you have a lot to lose. Also just dealing with the fact that, if you are videoing it, it's your point of view. They know you were the snitch, unlike with discord screenshots. (The third person camera is also visible to all players, even through walls.) Finding the depths of these places would take a CIA or Kremlin Agent, and they would probably get pissed because they use these places for their off times.

This is what I meant by public worlds that have the occasional person part of those groups in them. The true issue is knowing which worlds those are, getting there during the brief time they're there, and being able to interest them enough to befriend. From thereon out, it honestly should be pretty easy to access that discord. I have done it multiple times by simply using years of socialization tactics. If it's not that easy, then you're not dealing with amateurs, and they probably have a system in place to filter out glowies like yourself.

There's also cases of people knowing people, as many big groups know people on the outskirts and on the inside. Another do-able thing is: join certain suspicious groups akin to the person you'd like to meet and/or customize your profile/account to be somewhat noteworthy -- and send that person a friend request. I know for a fact when someone does this to me I investigate their profile. I've done the above before to people and they instantly requested to join me to see who I was.

This is a rabbit-hole I'm very cautious about -- the overlap between these groups and VRChat. I've ran into quite a few e-girls in certain internet spheres over the last year. Even yesterday I came across a suspicious group, a lot of them in some of the (listed below) groups. Some examples of red-flag VRChat groups (at least the ones that instantly catch my eye these days):

- gore groups (gorefans, gore whore), any rape-fetish/CNC groups
- NEET groups, any sort of 4chan/8chan stereotype group

Less eye-catching but still go on my radar:
- Sewerslvt, any breakcore groups (more suspicious if it's mixed with any of the aforementioned)
Side note: com group followers have been noted to enjoy a subgenre called scenecore, or any sort of electronic experimental genre such as dariacore, etc., however I don't see any of those groups usually, nor do I think they exist (other than dariacore).

This is all I can think of for now. Don't go terrorizing people if they are in these groups. If they are in multiple of the first ones, it most likely means they're either terminally online or larping as such. Depending on the rest of the factors I use to calculate, it just means they are more likely to have knowledge of those spheres. I know of certain individuals with none of these groups, and they are still extremely degenerate and have done bad things.

Also, if someone is in groups but have them set to hidden, you can get around it by joining those groups and hiding them yourself. It will tell you if they're in those mutual groups even if they hide them.

As for a story:
When I say The Great Pug is a very good overlap, I mean it. It used to be better earlier in the year, back when I found an already-doxed (doxbin) underage (at the time) e-girl named midclown in it. I haven't seen her since around July, but she was with an infamous guy who is and has been obsessed with this other e-girl for years (although it's both of their faults). That guy gets banned from every Great Pug instance he joins on his conspicuously named alts. A very desperate case of limerence. Anyway, that cow-watching actually introduced me to another cow-watcher, so I found it was worth it despite the horrible degenerate words that were said.

These groups tend to consist of white kids and young adults that larp as black people, and they typically use heavily modified clients filled with malware, often purchased for stupid amounts of money. They also buy up leaked database info to dox and extort others who mildly bother them. Much of com seems to revolve around social games, which isn’t particularly surprising. If you follow sites like Doxbin, you’ll notice these groups frequently target random individuals and each other with likely-false accusations.

Dead Computer is right, there’s definitely an overlap with the Great Pug map. It’s a popular choice for those who want a public VRChat experience but prefer to avoid children, mainly because it requires a PC-compatible VR headset.

I'm only vaguely familiar with a small subset of it, extortion discords like boykisser, some fringe furfags and breakcore overlap in that they're more like cults or cult-like in function and require more kompromat and contribution to participate. I don't want to misrepresent anything as I'm not familiar with VRChat or the culture, but there's overlap and it's the outer circle of their Just Eyes Wide Shut parties. Sometimes that alone is enough to warrant insurance. It's a pretty universal social order at all orders of magnitude.

There are degrees and clans to this kind of activity. A cult is the best way to describe most of it in how it functions. I don't know, it's either fringe and deplorable enough on its own to warrant that kind of coersive participation or there is outright illegal activity in addition to it. You want to get crossfaded in a diaper at a digital rave orgy; that has a barrier to entry. You want more, you have to be known at the digital orgies. You have to be down to clown.

I didn't mean to sound like it was straight extortion, but there is some of that deeper down in some circles. For the most part, it's basic assurance and compliance. Anything from babyfurs to tranny death cults are in a precarious situation and a fucking cultus is the end result of previous failures. VRC makes it harder to show receipts on someone without compromising yourself.

Looking at it as a cult by some of the broader and more technical definitions of the term makes some of what's going on make a little more sense. The kompromat and PII is part of the masquerade, think witch cult. Really think witch cult. You have some known members with a public face but a lot of others who are only an online profile. The size and content of the profile is the image of the witch. The insiders know them personally and the disparity in the two public images is part of the show as much as anything else. There are some other lenses to look at it through but I've already spent too long on this one.

You have some good shit to follow up on as long as you don't bark up the wrong trees. I think if you can find the modus of a given group and parse the shibboleths that run through some of them, you'll find something solid that isn't just heterodox behavior that's mostly legal. It's easy to feel like you're deep into some fucked up shit, and you are, but it's all designed to be fucked up. Just don't end up a glowie asset when you do strike gold.

Just going to slightly edit you here. You do not need a VR headset to play VRChat.
I repeat... the majority of worlds are PC compatible, whereas a lot are not Quest compatible. The people who have many hours on the game and are always in VR are a bit discriminative to PC-users, and The Great Pug was/is known as the main locale for PC users.

I am not promoting anything, just informing; For anyone who is interested in the front lines:

VRChat is a free game. You do not need a VR headset to play. You can sign up using alt emails (you need a confirmation code from your email to log-in though), and you can be a mute as there is a textbox option (mutes are slightly discriminated against, but if you ever wanted to meet-up with someone to go investigate or w.e. and stay anonymous you could). It's insanely easy to join a public lobby and sit next to a group of people and listen to what they say. You don't even need to sit with the tab open, you can close it and AFK to do other things. The reason why ProximityChat makes such good content is because I kid-you-not, he is probably sitting through 40-80 hours on the game to make enough content and find good enough content for one 10 minute long video.

If you do end up trying the game or already do and are unaware of this software, you might want to download VRCX, a client marketed as a "friendship management tool for VRChat," but let's be real, it's actually a stalking client. Keep it open if you play, it will log everyone in your instances and all sorts of other useful logs. This is to be said if any other purposeful information collected first hand will ever be posted in this thread.

I just watched the entire video by Brandon FM linked in the OP on the WIP Sippbox section, and while it was kind of informative, it's sooo long for the amount of information it told... It did give me kind of an idea about how VRChat became this way, and when "ABRAXAS" gave their statement about Tupper I was like wait a second... that name looks familiar... I've been in the same instances before, and their user is actually ABRAXXAS. VRChat makes the saying "what a small world" extremely true.

I also found out that someone made a group called "Kiwifarms," but it is request to join. The group code is "lolcow" so it's not just a typo and the creator of the group is the only person in it. The creator is a /vrg/er or /vrg/ adjacent; they are a group hog (meaning they join hundreds of groups) yet they are in the /vrg/ group, so I assume they are one.

They actually seem to use some sort of whitelist/blacklist on which email providers are allowed, as a lot of throwaway email domains are blocked.
I've found you can easily bypass the one-email-per-account requirement by attaching a subaddress to an existing email address of your choice, ex. myaddress+subaddress@gmail.com

Expecting hundreds of millions of parents that vary from background, religion, upbringing, economic level and more... to uphold to a certain standard like that is sounds very unfeasible. Going after a relatively few corporations by adding regulations is.

Regulations are almost always a net positive and corporations will be cautious with them as long as they're enforced. Shutting down restaurants that have food shitty practices is more feasible than expecting each individual customer to inspect their food to make sure sawdust wasn't put in it, or if rat shit was mixed in somehow.

Understatement. Ive been on the internet since BBS days and without a doubt vrchat is the most thoroughly degenerate, predator crazy filled thing ive experienced on it. When you combine the avatar and vr aspects(particularly full body tracking) people simply dont grasp what is going on and how damaging it is to those participating in it.

Great example; One day I loaded up a public world. In it I stumbled upon a woman doing bdsm poses while a guy "took pictures" of her in vrc. Finding this bizarre I just stood there and as they talked. Checked out their bios and saw the woman said she was 16 and the guy was 20. As soon as I saw that I immediately started calling the guy a degenerate, getting into an argument with him. Eventually I left but was still within voice range and heard the guy tell the 16 year old she needed to remove the sentence she was 16 from her bio as this keeps happening.

What I dont think people truly grasp is that 16 year old girl was physically doing those poses acting out whatever I was seeing in vrc in wherever she was playing from. Thats an entirely another level of fucked up beyond merely talking about something degenerate. Not just that but this wasnt some random unused world, it was in the most popular world where the majority of vrc players spend their time in. Insanity.

Theres a few women at work whose children have vrheadsets. I gone as far as showing them screenshots of the fucked up behavior prevalent in vrc to make sure they understand how much of a danger it is to their kids and make sure they arent on it.

Something definitely worth looking further into, these VRChat gangs / groups centred around crashing people's games and other script kiddie things. Aesthetically it reminds me a lot of some Discord groups. Anecdotally I've seen some of these VRChat guys in Doxbin spaces as well so a broader overlap is possible.

Direct engagement on Discord will probably be necessary to get a better feel for this space, though.

I can also say with quite a lot of confidence that these VRChat groups have connections to other 'com' groups, especially surrounding Doxbin. If you find a Discord server with a vanity associated with one of these groups there's a good chance the further affiliations will be clear just by looking at who they partner with, the people in the server, etc.

Still, I guess doing it late is better than not doing it at all, especially considering how concerning it is that so many minors are left to roam free completely unattended in-game.

-It's still in very early stages, and they're doing a test run with a few groups before rolling it out on a larger scale.
-They're using Persona for ID verification, the same company that works with Roblox, Reddit, Instacart, and Square. The VRC developers won’t have access to any of your information other than your date of birth.
-Age verification (unfortunately) is not mandatory.
-When a user creates an instance, there will be a new optional toggle to only allow users with a verified age into the instance. If you're not verified, you won't be able to join.
-Verifying yourself adds a "verified" badge to your profile. You also have the option to hide the badge if you'd prefer.
