VRChat - WAOW, it's the METAVERSE!!! (a growing den of pedophiles, furries, and troons that is advertised as safe for children)

VR chat is an awesome idea and it's genuinely fun as well just being able to digitally move around in a virtual space and have conversations with people from all over the world but just based on how it's made it's absolutely impossible to do age verification on it and that's just going to fuck it up for everyone who just wants to have a good time eventually. Same with Roblox. I have no idea how this problem could be fixed other than outright executing every sex offender and tracking every single user and obtaining their data (which would be super creepy and dangerous in a few ways) but I would love to see it happen. Kids need to be left the fuck alone and good things don't deserve to die because of a minority of scum. RIP Sycamore.
If laws made it illegal for minors to use the Internet in general and if their parents gave a single shit about them like they pretend to, then VRChat could operate safely. VRChat is not without fault in this matter, they advertise dating and ages 12+ in their description, now if that isn't the biggest welcoming with a handshake for a chomo I don't know what is.

Yeah that's the whole ass problem right there isn't it? Fucking "it's everyone's job but mine to be a responsible attentive parental figure to my child" tablet parents. Shit is infuriating and it has been ongoing since the 1990s.

Funny, considering that their degenerate activity is what most likely drove the trolls to do so in the first place. :story:
They were so assblasted by the type of trolls that went into second life to troll them that they were desperately trying to get the overall moderation team to import a list of IP addresses to preemptively ban them.
Damn, that was the worry of these freaks back in the day? "You're ruining our ERP sesh with the racisms and 'unfunny maymay'!111". Truly soulless "people".
They’re spergy freaks who can’t handle people seeing their nastiness.

Does anyone know if this shit happened in places like Club Penguin? I used to play that shit 24/7 and nothing happened to me.

Remember when ES: Oblivion was originally T and then got bumped up to M due to some gore? Then the original GTA: SA release got slapped with an Adult rating for having that sex mini-game? It's wild how much the rating boards do not give a shit anymore.
The Hot Coffee minigame in GTA IV wasn’t even included in the game. It was removed, but the code wasn’t expunged from the ISO for replication.

You couldn’t access it without using a Game Shark/Action Replay/Code Breaker, but since the code was present on the disc, the game was temporarily re-rated from M to AO until copies with the Hot Coffee code removed could be produced.

No copies of GTA IV have an AO rating on them, as the minigame was obviously not shown to the ESRB when the game was initially rated M, and all copies on shelves when the shit hit the fan were pulled.

The whole thing was kind of ridiculous, like when some retard put the PS1 version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf in a PC and discovered it had the original South Park short The Spirit of Christmas in its dummy files to pad out the disc, and that game got re-rated, pulled and replaced with sanitized filler files at the same original rating.

I want to add to this thread this video I found on Xitter (A). I do not know much of the context but this was happening within the FNF world which attracts a lot of trouble from what I have heard over the years. I am guessing ShadowBonie15 was a troll who was trying to call Jessie from Minecraft Story Mode a predator while standing up for some furfag anime avatars he was hitting on.

I do want to note that despite being close to him, he is treating phantom sense as a real thing as he acts wrapping his arms around the troll's avatar while pointing into his chest with his Minecraft arms. I am impressed at how well the avatars are reactive to the user.

I came across another tweet (A) linked to this post. You can notice how the player is making their voice sound more childlike while joking about the apparent problems of VRChat.

At this point I hate to say it but China sort of has the right idea by forcing you to use your IRL government ID to log into everything including video games. How else would you possibly track these predators and this activity, as well as keeping kids out of 18+ online spaces? Despite that punishing every single innocent person by proxy, which is the main issue with it from my stance. I'm not really seeing another option other than to make it illegal for the parents to allow children to access these platforms, classifying it as neglect to expose them to online predators. But then where does it end? That essentially makes it illegal for anyone under 18 to play video games that have chat in them. Which wouldn't exactly be a bad thing, but until and unless they make a highly regulated internet that's only for children overseen by vetted and verified adult moderators, there's going to be endless screeching if the children are cut off from the Fortnites.

Like, there is just not the manpower available for VRchat to moderate this sort of thing on their own. They would need some kind of federal grant to staff it well enough to actually have moderators that pay attention to reports. They quite seriously depend on the userbase's own ability to block people they don't want to interact with. And then the 7 year olds are fully strapped in and they walk into the Undertale or the Five Nights at Freddy's world and it's just some massive fetish avatar with a lisping troon behind it straight up in the main area.

I'm sure there were creeps on there but it would've been much harder for them to operate than it is with Roblox.

I also played the hell out of Club Penguin (which has an unfortunate abbreviation btw). IIRC chat was very very limited. You had a set amount of available characters (150 maybe?) and the option of selecting from pre-made sentences (things like, "Wanna go to the iceberg with me?"). Additionally, there were "trigger words" that the game wouldn't let you send in a message. I think you could also be put in time out. I vaguely remember sometimes typing innocent sentences and the program thinking it was inappropriate. I never tried to exchange IRL phone numbers or other contact info with friends on there though so I don't know if the program picked up on things like that.

By the time it shut down (RIP) I hadn't played in several years so I don't know how much it changed if any. Hopefully some other Club Penguin veterans will chime in.

I watched this video yesterday and I feel the same way as him: how the fuck is Roblox entertaining? Sure, there are some fire games in there, I guess, but the gems are below piles and piles of garbage.
I never played VRChat either so I can't say much about that.

they advertise dating
What do you mean? Flirtual is third party. Unless I'm missing something from the VRChat team. Different worlds advertise different things because the world makers are the ones who decide what is advertised.

It might have changed since then but I remembered looking into VRChat a few years ago on Steam because some friends wanted me to play a game with them and I remember looking through all of the Information and TOS before downloading it (That's the type of person I am, I don't just hit accept) and one of the things I remember bringing up what I was reading in the call with them and how it said "dating" as one of it attributes and having to be "12+" to join. I am aware there is an offsite dating app because of the VRChat predator catcher videos but the actual game once used that as one of their pieces not to long ago.

Edit: I just went back to look at it, it says 13+ still not good and I can't seem to find the image slogan that advertised something that went like "Chatting, games and virtual dating." 🤔 Now I am wondering if they realized how bad that looked. LMFAO

Considering anyone in VRchat with something nasty to hide already constantly talks about/fears ProximityChat (who does nothing but record them and ask questions they answer easily), I'm sure in the private instances they're already terrified, but are avoiding talking about it openly to not give Schlep attention or put targets on their backs.
My sole experience with VRchat is watching those 'trolling' videos and watching everything devolve into everyone accusing each other of being ProximityChat like they're in The Thing. "I know I'm furry. If you were all these... ProximityChats you'd all come out and troll me now, so I know that some of you are still furries too."

I remember Club Penguin also locking you to the pre-made sentences thing. I don't quite remember if it was based on your age or because you were put in time out too many times.
I think it was, if you could verify through email you had access to typing.
not the hardest wall to get around, but even then you'd get 1 year ban for saying literally any curse words, and private messaging didn't exist if i remember correctly. I'd go as far as to say i think i remember my friend being ip banned because i couldn't login from his moms pc lol.
Club Penguin's moderation 20 years ago was better than vrchat with its 8 digit revenue, especially when looking from the outside it looks like a way to speedrun adult tutorials like how to gamble, etc.

Fuck, I miss sit down Pizza Hut restaurants so much, bros. All we have in the U.S. now is take out shops.
They still got tables where I live. But like 4 small tables max, and people only sit at them to wait for their pizzas.
