Fictional worlds aren't real. If a fictional world is full of coombait, it's because the creators wanted it to be full of coombait, not because the ineluctable logic of the game's "canon" (which of course they change any time they want to make something more Current Year or monetizable) forced their hand.
I would argue that a well designed fictional world should be built from the ground up with such ironclad foundations and consistency that some things should be simple inevitabilities down the line, purely as a consequence of how all the dominoes were set up in the first place. Creating a world is setting up dominoes and writing in it is simply letting them fall naturally.
My favourite part is that when Deimos originally came out the lore entries had Albrect reminise over how Euralia's eyes are so similar to his wife's/her mother's, only for the mother to be basically writen out of the story completely when whispers came out so they could fag Albrect up with the upto that point completely unmentioned buttler.

Most game writers are failed TV/movie writers who never graduated from writing what is essentially fanfiction. This is literally true in some cases; see Halsin from Baldur's Gate 3, who was rewritten into a cuckolding fantasy by a Halsin fanfic writer who got hired by Larian, literally getting to insert their fanfic into the game.

Warframe has a lot of faults but FOMO isn't one of them. There's pretty much zero timed exclusive rewards. Some even stuff temporarily goes away but it always returns several times a year.
In its 10+ year run the only true timed exclusives is excal prime which was just a desperation thing because the studio was about to shut down and the heirloom skins for frost and mag which were pretty fucking bullshit sure, but at least they didn't do it again.
I didn't mind the Hex as much because you get a decent quest setting everything up and then have the option to either talk to them via KIM, give them gifts, or run their missions to get the real ending. Whether you end up loving them or hating them after it's over doesn't matter, as at least you'll have a reason for feeling that way.
The Devil's Triad has none of that. You're thrown into a random group of people who don't get along and are told to fix them. Why? There's no quest setting them up like the aforementioned Hex or Heart of Deimos that makes you give a shit. All of the effort that should have went into a proper quest was spent dumping lore into KIM chats. Here's an actual dialog tree with Marie. Wouldn't it have been cool to experience some of these character moments in an actual quest a la Jade Shadows? Maybe then I would care that Lyon wants to ropemax.
Anyway, I worked my way through Marie's KIM chats and got the romance option (), then ran to Aoi to see what she had to say about it. Considering all the effort they put into these dense as fuck dialog trees with some pretty touchy subjects I expected there to be some crazy back and forth after you admit to dating someone else without telling her. Nope! Aoi is TOALLY on board! Sheesh, man.
This was the exact dialogue I was thinking of when I read your complaint. I liked the kim for the hex and most of the roundtable (i hated all of the reply options for kaya because none of them are what I wanted to say), but the triad one frustrates me for the reason you stated. I think the difference was that the 10 1999 protos were all quarantined off in their own section of the world where they can only talk amongst themselves, whereas the triad supposedly interacts with other characters we already know. I think they really bit off more than they could chew with the triad kim, because we also needed chats for the at least the 3 cavia, Loid, and Necraloid, but probably also the 4 family upstairs (or at least mother) to make it all work.
Marie had an argument with Tagfer about albrecht? That's sounds really interesting, I wonder what his side of the story is. Oh, you can't talk to him about it. Roathe talks to Bird 3 for unclear reasons? Bird 3 is a fun character, what does he think about Roathe? Oh, no way to know. The whole point of the roathe dialogue is that he is going to get Loid to come clean to the family, and Loid also has a chat window? I like Loid, he's probably got some interesting things to say. Oh, he only has 1 chat, which is to tell you to talk to the others.
All of the triad/descendia stuff feels like it was supposed to come in a followup update like they usually do to a december update, but was crammed in to this one because Old Peace would have been too small for the big end of year update without it. My guess is that Old Peace was probably supposed to be out earlier this year (surely with Caliban Prime), but got delayed for one reason or another. The first update of the year was March with techrot encore, so leftovers from the previous december that had to be delayed to this year. Then it was june with isleweaver, which was a small update. Then it was mid october with vallis undermind wich was also tiny. They probably looked at the focus expansion and the perita rebellion and went 'fuck, this is not enough to end the year on. Start wrapping up the triad update so we can bundle it in.' I liked this update a lot, but it really does feel like 2 disparate updates that were each 65% complete, stapled together so we could have a 130% 'biggest update ever'.
I still enjoy the game, been playing from WAY back in the early days. Came back just over a week ago after nearly a year, and its great. The people who complain about the story are retarded, this game has been a mess with regards to lore and story for close to its entire lifespan. The coom is about all they have left, because nothing makes sense. I skip any cutscene I can, just get right past it. The KIM shit, I just set it to fast, and pick the top option, and I have no idea what they are all about. I am in a relationship with Arthur it seems, no matter, I dont really know who he is. Loid is gay, and looks like the singer from Korn? yeah, not really an issue, skip skip skip.
Stay for the mechanics and gameplay, and the art design which is pretty nice. The story? yeah, forget about it, its always been shite, and it will not change with thirsty Reb at the helm.
