You may disagree but I fail to see the reason the old fantasy universe needed to blow up and die in a maelstrom of poor writing and general fuck you for every faction other than the skaven who actually acted entirely in character while also kill-destroying the moon for profit. and the obvious question is 40k going to get axed and reborn in a similar spectacular fashion?

It didn't need to, but GW is still financially better off with AoS. 40k was probably going to get an end times when the primaris was introduced, but gw got cold feet.

Oh no I agree AoS and the way it happened didnt need to happen. Kirby was an asshole, 8th edition was a mess, armies were not even getting fucking books like Bretonnia, and Fantasy was overall mishandled. I overall blame GW and the Storm of Chaos campaign a moment where GW *COULD* have changed Fantasy for the better and instead said "no u chaos is strong and wins back to status quo" at that moment GW screwed themselves over in both story telling and new model ideas.

I wont defend AoS and I used to hate it too but I kinda grew to like it yeah its high fantasy but with that Warhammer grimdark. I understand though its not a flavor people like and much so I wont shit on them for that.

A year back we were still wondering if Psychic Awakening was going to amount to anything and then 9th edition dropped, instantly nuking 60% of its usable content crunch-wise.

I think the real reason why Warhammer Fantasy died was because simply GW failed to update any army books and didn't update some of the ancient sculpts that hadn't aged well. Also the Storm of Chaos fiasco where they should have made Grimgor smash in Archeon's face and the green tide be the most dangerous threat to the forces of Order.
I think it was more of a lore dead end. Like, in 40k you can jump around 200 years and advance the plot while handwaving why no one is dead through anti aging treatment/warp accidents. In Fantasy you had constant major losses by the "good" factions in every book, and you can't jump forward and let those factions recover without needing to explain why aren't all the humans dead yet. Nevermind a fuckton of contradictory lore about the end times.

I'd like to see Gennedy Tarkovsky have his hand at Warhammer.
Hrrrng. I consider "Emperor of Terra" to be a worthy trade off for not getting more Korgoth of Barbaria. Tough choice though, to be honest.

Also, I need to throw my hat in as someone who only got into 40k through Dawn of War. I haven't bought a single model (because holy shit the money involved), but bought plenty of novels.

Get yourself some 4 to 6 vallejo bottles (because lmao citadel) a number 2 brush, a detail brush, and pick one model. Everyone starts with a marine but really it can be anything, I know a guy whose first model was a pox walker. Really that is all you need.

I recently read Wargaming: An Introduction by Neil Thomas. The book originally was published in 2005 and mainly deals with historical wargaming, but it has salient advice that is translatable for tabletop 40k. The one piece of advice that stuck out to me was Thomas' advice on army building. Recognizing the costs involved in building an army, Thomas recommended that a player should invest in building two opposing forces from the same era (the book talked about the various eras from Ancient to Second World War wargaming) before considering another army from a different era. This means making sure the armies are assembled, painted, etc., so they aren't just forgotten in some closet.
The way I translate this into 40k is after a player decides what army they initially want to build (after getting the rule book and appropriate codex), they should focus on making sure that army is completed then decide on what opposing faction would be a great alternative and complete that one before considering any more (let alone getting into the Horus Heresy or Age of Sigmar games).
Basic advice, but one that is often taken for granted by players with "greedy eyes."

You misunderstand. I have zero desire to get into the TT game because 1. I live in the middle of nowhere and finding other players is hard and 2. the sheer cost/benefit ratio of buying $60 worth of stuff just to get started versus $60 worth of books is not exactly in favor of the plastic crack.

You can still paint a miniature or two without the need of a assembling a huge horde army, is what I failed to convey.

The free model of the month is great for this.
@Snekposter Just buy the book you want from your local store and if they offer a free model, take it.

@agility_ are you gonna switch to druki since they are looking based, or will you keep up your trad lifestyle?

It's tempting. I can't deny the allure of updated models and the Comorrites' wounds-per-hit output. But at the moment I'm ankle-deep in expanding my Harlequin masque. It's by far the best combat patrol value and they just got their new codex, really tempting.

>Expanding the harleys

Bruh, as a custodes fag, we both know that a massive expansion is like... 5 models. I gets that checkerboards are hard, but you need to be a proper resident eldar seether. You need the range of representation. (They should make exodites and make them like taking assassin's or inquisitors, but not shitty)

Bruh... have you ever painted a troupe.

You can't just slather these guys in gold and call it a day. If you mess up those diamonds, it's gonna look like ass from a distance. A distance! and it's a freaking skinny model to booth.

Hey my costodes are solar watch, white isn't easy! It really does annoy me when other custodes players just do basic bitch gold when we have some of the best models in the game.

Have you tried doing a masking paint strat for the diamond? They sell thin ass painters tape. If you're worried about pulling paint off, just seal them before.

Im planning on 2 armies are demo games in another miniature game called Conquest Last argument of kings but I also have 2 AoS and 2 40k armies. I think garage games are some of the best and getting friends who dont even know about miniature games is always worth it to have some completed side armies.
