Grand alliance is the only real souping you'll be doing.

If your army can ally with another faction, that allied army can be 1 out of every 4 units (in matched play, the maximum points of your allied units is 20% of the points cost of the army, eg a 2000 point army can have 400 points worth of allies). Certain armies can also have coalition units which are from different factions but aren't limited by allies restrictions. For instance, Cities of Sigmar can have 1 out of every 4 units be a Stormcast unit while all of the God specific chaos armies can have 2 out every 4 units be Slaves to Darkness units and 1 out of every 4 units can be Beasts of Chaos.

Slaves of Darkness are p cool, but the Destruction chads are where its at....
 
Grand Alliances are great to play with new players. They're simple and allow newbies to sample from a wide range. The only real souping you see from more advanced players is if they want to ally in a Gargant.
 
I just got uninvited from a GW-sponsored AoS 3.0 event because I used Vallejo textures for basing and use some 3d printed bases.

Technically I was told I had to use an army that used "only Citadel products," but who the fuck has anything like that? I don't. Are guys who use dollar store fishtank gravel on their bases similarly out of luck?

Using Vallejo stuff was something I naively admitted to way back when, but apparently memories are long.

Fuck 'em. Independents or nothing. Time to start cluing people in on Grimdark Future.

Which event? Last I checked even GW themselves said that bases were fair game.

Multiple Warhammer Store event for the new AoS. I was told previously I couldn’t use my own custom terrain, and I already knew non-Citadel minis were a no-go. No big deal, that`s just the way it goes at the official places. This is new, though.

I usually go to an indy place anyway, because I can just pay a table fee and play whatever I want with whatever minis I want. This event was just a ”come and play” thing at a Warhammer store so they could try to deal more plastic crack to the usual addicts, and I had the day off, so…No great loss, there are several other places where I can go get my fix.

The whole thing is just bizarre. I can`t see how they don`t know that most local players are using Vallejo and GSW paints for their minis.

I don`t think I`m That Fucking Guy. I don`t cheat, I laugh off losing and bad dice rolls, I let guys take back bad moves, and I`m generally friendly. But maybe I am, or it might just be something from Up High.

Bought some 'Nids for (*relatively/comparatively*) cheap off Ebay.
Winged Hive Tyrant, Warrior Prime and unassembled Venomthrope all for the price of a single Tyrant.

Not planning on building a playable army, just planning on painting some cool killer alien monsters.

I legit have ended up with the marine half of the last six boxsets this way. I have a problem but business is booming so I can indulge. Now I just got to get back into painting.

Anyone got recommendation as to how to make it a regular habit?
