TTS mostly takes fan theories and other maybes in the lore and runs with it. When the Alfa Legion was still a thing which is what Alfa kinda based TTS on we would always wonder how they would continue the setting which led to TTS being created.

Pre-7th/8th 40k was is kinda nostalgic to me for some reason the community wasnt a powder keg waiting to blow at every second and was much smaller than whatever the fuck it is now. However, I am more immersed into the hobby side more than ever currently so its an okay trade off.
Honestly it is a double-edged sword. You get a lot of immersion from getting into the hobby but that would have a ton of problems: be it GW inflating the costs and constantly sending powercreep/limited editions as a money sink or the absurd inconsistencies with each edition sent contradicting the past books. You can have many friends join with you in creating homebrew chapters/armies but that also means you invited creeps and shitters that will ruin the hobby.

I love the concept of Warhammer (even if it obviously takes and plagiarizes shit like the Tau and Shadow of the Beast design) but I cannot stand GW. I seriously cannot no matter how much I try to turn my brain off and go unga bunga at the books they make.

Notes to self after doing the necron warrior this morning after doing the marine on friday. The tessaract green paint doesn’t like to show up on the orbs so much as in the little recesses on the gun. Maybe putting little bit of white on them would make it pop better? No idea how to get the eyes right though. Probably doesn’t help that the brush that came with my paints doesn’t hold a point for shit.

White on the orbs is a good idea.
I probably want to do parts of them in brass going forward as well. I did the basic terminator gray metal with nuln oil. Probably want to make the shoulder plates brass just to give a bit more variety and get a really fine detail brush so I’m not having to back over the skull once I try to do the eyes again. That and getting the chest piece were probably the fiddliest parts of this.

Get you some Army Painter Detail and Insane Detail brushes. They're affordable, hold a point well, and they're awesome for fiddly work like eyes and such.

Insane Detail comes in their nice little 3 pack of their most common brushes. A Small Drybrush, a Regiment, and a Insane Detail.

Just eyeballing the picture, I'm guessing the Insane Detail is a 5/0 or 10/0 round, the Small Drybrush seems to be a 0 flat, and the Regiment, maybe a 1 or 0 round.

Speaking of brushes, been considering getting one of these, but I don't know if it'd be worth it.

Not sure it'd be worth it though. Basically a water pot with a smooth spring in it, for cleaning brushes off.

I actually picked up a regiment brush that I haven’t used yet when I picked up my wet palette. Do metal paints fuck them up faster or anything?

Metal Paints have flake in them. Only way metal paints work. You can see it when you clean your brushes / empty your water after using metallics. Mica, I think, for most of them? Aluminum flake for the really good ones?

Inherently that grit is rough on brushes. I do swap my water out after using metallics, but I don't go so far as to keep separate brushes for metal paints.

If you haven't done so already, get a brush soap bar or pot. Every time right after you finish working, spend 5 minutes lathering and rinsing the brush with the soap, it will keep the tip from curling.

Keep a cheapo disposable synthetic brush for metals. Do not use your kolinsky sable brushes for anything other than just plain acrylic.

That's a really good brush cleaner!

In my experience, it's been really good at keeping the brushes I use for fine detail and trim work clean and sharp. I like to use cheapo brushes when I'm getting in base coats or dry brushing since they put an awful lot of wear on the brush.

My secret weapon for brushes is Hobby Lobby. They have some really good synthetics called "Master's Touch" that work great, in all kinds of sizes.

My go to are a 0 and 1 round for almost everything, but I do have a 1 flat which I use for basecoating and priming now due to how easy it is. I picked up a 10/0 round last time I was in for detail work, like lines of text on a purity seal. Still can't get the paint to be opaque enough to write on those while not having the lines be so thick they're stupid looking.

funny enough something I read just yesterday: mechanical pens. TAU players might know what I'm talking about, since they're used a lot for panel lining.

seriously, I think I have to get into gunpla, those guys don't fuck around and I want some of their weeb autism to rub off on me...

So Kung Flu happens. Lots of people take the Brrr pill and realize how irrelevent GW are to actually playing Warhammer, and they see record losses after one of the biggest attempts to destroy their own optics I've seen in recent memory, and their response is to raise the prices up even more.

I download PDFs of the rulebooks and print my minis. You should all do the same. The resin printers are starting dip under 100 during sales. Absolute bargin. Fuck this kikery. Vote with your wallet.
joke's on them, I play OPR/5parsecs because they actually want to make a good and balanced game, with their models and some maker's cult mixed in. all legal and there's nothing GW can do about it, they can suck it (if you wanna play fantasy it's even worse and you basically have to buy used stuff or look elsewhere). I mostly follow the thread for news what they're up to for something to laugh at and the hobby in general.

I lost track of the STL stuff after the MEGA Crackdown that was caused by the clickbait hobby tourists making vids on 40k Printing for views. Did it get any better? I had a hell of a time finding some even basic shit, like say Space Marine Arms / Legs.

Hell, I'm still hoping for 3D Scanners to drop to a reasonable amount. Nothing would make me happier than to just clip things from a sprue and make STLs of it all.
the problem is you have too many fanbois reporting stuff, and GW striking everything even if they have no ground to stand on. dudes with oversized pauldrons and armored chicks with bobcuts aren't part of their copyright, but no one wants to challenge a DMCA strike. the mega also contained a lot of said legal stuff which got previously removed, so it's even worse because it wasn't just their shit.

hardly looking for it these days since I'm more than happy with other armies (just look at these dudes, imagine being an alien robot and looking like a t-800 reject), but back then you had to look for creative names and screenshots only containing bits and pieces to make it less obvious.

I am amused as hell to see alternatives like that show up. It makes me want to take up Blender and start my own Forge World Anvil Station Imitorus, where glorious Adeptus Mechanicus Impetratus Ingeniarius work on Power armor Augmented Battle Suits, going as far back as the rev β, used during the Glorious March, to the unofficial rev ε, which was used during the Final Dissent of the Warmaster.

Basically take the descriptions of the various marks of Power Armor from 1d4chan and the other wikis and recreate them without looking at the originals. Maybe Imitorus's "thing" will be using lots of triangles in their variants of Augmented Battle Suits.

Five Parsecs from Home is a very good solo game. Sorta fills the Necromunda shaped hole in my heart.

Am i the only one that thinks Ku'Gath got done dirty by like three primaris marines at the end of Dark Imperium, just seems like the first favoured of Nurgle would give a lot more than he did after the fourth favoured nearly yeeted Guilleman at the end of the the first book.

Well I'd argue that Ku'Gath would of turned the primaris into walking plague bags if wasn't for that literal emperor possessed priest, Plus Rotigus and Typhus kind of fucked him over in the first place, though that was arguably because of smelly moth man disobeying nurgle.
