Despite all the praise that Ciaphas Cain gets, I read the first anthology a very long time ago and found it to be very repetitive, every story following the same sequence of events while just switching who the enemies are. It might be fine in period doses, but reading through the whole anthology at once was tiresome. Is there more variety in the later stories?

I couldnt tell you, I'm afraid. I'm only about halfway through the second "main" story in the first anthology. The only real similarities i've noticed between the first and second story is that they both feature segments where Cain is underground, however.

Interesting side note: those exploration drones' first (and only, afaik) appearance in Warhammer canon is in the Ciaphas Cain novel where he boards a space hulk with some Terminators. Nice little reference there.
The CATs are from the original space hulk game where they were just tokens.

They were also in the rebooted one and you got a cute little dude with sort of a mini reliquary built into him.

On a side note, the CAT is based in the same style as the leaked (and then revealed) Kasrkin.
I very much think this will be an Aliens styled KT box with Kasrkin vs new Genestealers as they are also desperately in need of a new sculpt alonside the gaunts/gants.

Anyone a Dark Angels player?
If so, I have a few questions.
I know that the Dark Angels are mostly codex compliant, save for a few differences.
This might sound dumb but are there any bike squads in other companies?
Or are all of them in the Ravenwing?
And correct me if I'm wrong, but DA Terminators are only available to the Deathwing, right?

Next expansion teased for kill team has just been released. It’ll probably gonna be another underground setting because all of their skirmish games have to have an underground expansion for whatever reason.

I'm surprised that no one has remarked upon the similarity between the CAT's base and the new Kasrkin bases.

So I'm thinking about getting back into 40K. I haven't played since late 90s, early 2000s. Just not sure how many people in my area play. Not sure I can justify the expense if I don't play often.

I like the look of the Tau. Not sure how different the game is from back when I played before. I'd play casual and no tournaments.

I'd like a terminator kill team
From what I can tell knowing little to nothing about it, Killteam seems to be a largely medium to light troops game(for extremely liberal definitions of Medium incase of custodes), but I think Chaos Termies vs Primaris Aggressors could be a fun box giving both squads new toys. Space Hulk screams Termies, and Termie vs Termie is probably too kino for GW to give us, but I like Aggressors and will be probably working on a Firebat squad next if not Supressors.

A custode is the same size (if not bigger) then a terminator. Also aggressors suck

Are their any 40k stories focusing on the imperial guard mechanized forces?

It’s IG versus something….although valrak was talking about primaris terminators I know valrak but his leaks are typically always true.

Daemons?
That's the only Chaos faction not covered and the only thing that comes to mind.
We know the World Eaters are getting their codex later, too.
I don't think the Leagues of Votann are getting there's just yet, either.

I pray the daemons codex has some proper interplay with daemonkin because that was a lot of fun and I'd like to keep using my GuO boy and Skarbrand. I expect the chaos knight % include rule but anything like auras that work for both sides would be lovely.

According to the lore, all Dark Angel bikes, land speeders, Nephilim Jet Fighters/Dark Talons are within the second company, Ravenwing. All Terminator units are within the First Company, Deathwing.

I’m pretty sure Successor Chapters can differ in their arrangement.
