You're limited by the Force Organization charts and by points limits. Just going off of Wahapedia, if you're doing a Battalion, you can have 2-3 HQs, 3-6 Troops, 0-6 Elites, 0-3 Fast Attack, 0-3 Heavy Support, 0-2 Flyers, and a Dedicated Transport for each infantry choice you have. So just off the basic list, you can field up to 3 Riders in your fast attack slot, 3 Death Rider Squadron Commanders in your HQ slot, and 6 Death Riders Command Squad in your Elite slot plus an additional one for each HQ that don't count towards your slot limit. This gives you a max total of 15 cavalry units (69 total cav models) for 1500 points or 1515 points if you upgrade the DR Commanders to have plasma pistols.

There's also other FO charts for that expand on a particular slot at the cost of reduced allowances in the others as well as not getting extra command points for you to utilize. You got the Vanguard for Elites, Outrider for Fast Attack and Spearhead for Heavy Support. Depending on your points limit, you can also take different/mix-and-match detachments as an option. If you want to field a fuckton of cavalry, the previous paragraph grants you the most cav units, but there's a lot more options now compared to my entry in 5E.

EDIT: I should mention there is a Brigade detachment that lets you bring 3-5 HQ, 6-12 Troops, 3-8 Elites, 3-5 Fast Attack, 3-5 Heavy Support, 0-2 Flyers and a dedicated transport for each infantry. So you can bring even more cavalry, but you're getting into Apocalypse scale games then with how many points you'll need to field to max out your cav.
For the next few months, for competitive play at least, all the other detachments have been replaced by the Arks of Omen detachment, which is essentially a less-restrictive Battalion/Vanguard/Outrider: you pick one role to have a compulsory three slots, then get a large grab-bag of options beside it.

Obviously if you're just playing normally, the usual 9e detachments are still in effect.
Question about the tabletop game. How many of the same units can you field? Is it a properly set rule or does it depend on how casual or competitive the game environment is? I'd like to put together an imperial guard cavalry army but I don't know if I have to bring in multiple different units like rough riders, death riders, mukaali riders, etc.
Don't pay any attention to my answer if you're looking to get started now; I doubt the new detachment will last, and 10e is on the horizon and will probably bring big changes regardless. Paying too much attention to the rules when you're starting an army isn't a great idea if you're not planning to speed-paint. That said, we'll likely see something like the Battalion as a somewhat standard template once again, if you're just looking for unit ratios and the like.

So this guy is really mad on facebook running social media defense for 40k messaging and blocking people for merely laugh reacting at the official 40k post of the new Marines box set. I guess he does this a lot.

Don't have the right to send laugh reacts.

What a brave new age

Sorry if this is off topic, but I couldn't resist going back to take a peek at this individual's profile and this stood out for me... I'm thinking possible groomer? Which, again, would be very out of character for someone in the trans community.

There's a story here, I'm sure.

I started with Sisters just because I really like their particular flavor of the Imperial aesthetic and still play them occasionally, but this is my arc as well - the ladz are the only guys having any fun and I love the very straightforward playstyle.

In da grim darkness of da 41st millennium, dere's only WAAAGH!

This can only go one of two ways, Either it will one of the greatest pieces of entertainment known to man OR They'll make the Emperor a woman.

Amazon is heresy.

While I hate how most Primaris units have convoluted names with "er"/"or" at the end that become easy to mix up, I've regardless become particularly annoyed that this new unit is called DesolatION Squad instead of DesolatOR Squad. It's really throwing me off.

Yeah. Desolator and Reavers sound better. The guns look orky, even if I could get behind a concept for very long range rocket artillery marines.

I don't like the ones with bare titties (since fuck painting skin) but the non-porn ones by Wargame Exclusive / AlternativeMinis on Etsy are alright.

Same... team? Same seller sells a batch of AdMech Toros and Backpacks to take 1 GW box and extend it to 2:

Supposedly they look very nice alongside the GW Skitarii mixing them in with the others. Hoping they do similar stuff for other GW kits that include extra arms / weapons but not enough torsos/legs.

Edit: Specifically, they have backpacks built in, so you'd probably want to build the special weapons guys with GW torsos and legs and the special weapon backpack, then mix in the torsos with the rest. You'd have to built 1 squad of rangers 1 squad of Vanguard.

I do wonder if there was a way they could do something similar for say, Space Marine Torso/Legs/Backpacks. The thing is, they get away with these Skitarii extensions cause AdMech is still all but an NPC faction and they have coats that you can easily see them buttoning up. The Space Marines, for example, don't have coats. Maybe... Robes?

Sisters of Battle in nunnery outfits covering their power armor?

I got that Magos too, glad there is a non tiddy variant. I like tits as much as any otaku, but it makes zero sense for a techpriest in battle to flash her plastic like that, and Admech tend to be rational in their ways. Now if it was a diorama with a toaster....

You can enjoy Spesh Mehreens and Orks both. And even use the left over marine guns for some lootas.

That's funny but I was being earnest. I don't have an unhelmetted mini at the moment but I do have some steps to painting skins on different hues.
Well, I'm game for any ideas you might have. I still don't think I'll be painting any tits anytime soon, tho.

Lord, When I first found out about 40k I was pretty interested in the Eldar, but the Tyranids have always held a special place in my heart. Dark Eldar came out around the time I put away the books the first time due to a move and forgot about it all, but I was picking up random Dark Eldar boxes around that time.

When I rediscovered the hobby years later the Sons of Malice and Malal tickled my fancy more than a little bit, but not enough to really push me to collect a full army. I probably could have fielded a Kill Team with what I had made, tho. Blood Ravens once I realized what the hell was going on in Dawn of War 2 and the "gift" meme, I thought the idea of just borrowing a shitload of different units flagged for other chapters and painting over the other chapter's symbols with blood ravens iconography would be funny. Then, Deathwatch was kinda interesting cause I could do everything I wanted to do with the Blood Ravens but not be beholden to the meme.

Then I read up about the Custodes and, well, kinda like them (although I wish they'd release them in Truescale, they should TOWER over the Primaris SM). Orks I never meshed with because my buddy played them in 2nd or 3rd and well, don't wanna double up do ya? Even then I had a mental image of 40k Orks in like, Caveman aesthetic or even Midevil Knight style aesthetic. Bamboo Rokkit Launchas or Boyz in platemail made out of industrial scrap and choppaz meant to look like knightly swords.

I bounce between them all, and could easily enjoy thinking out the fluff for at least a Kill Team for just about any faction I imagine.

Isn't that what Imperial Guard are for?

The only chapter serf I know of is Kaleb Arin, and he washed out of astartes training. The other pre-Heresy Deathguard Marines hated him for being a hanger-on that didn't make the cut. I'm not sure why you'd want the toilet-scrubbers and armor polishers in a wargame.
Spess Wolf serfs are treated more like common-born freemen in the service to a nobleman than serfs as you might expect from them being SPACE VIKINGS and all that. So, pretty well, not subjected to random servitorization, and are even integrated into their warfleet as naval troopers in large numbers.

Of course, the Spess Wolves can't deploy them in surface action because G-Man would tell them that's a big no-no.
And it would be surpringly less preachy too
Yeah, but its starring the Ultras, and not even Captain "Punch Grots to Recover HP" Titus.
Pretty sure some chapters get them piloting vehicles and other light logistics due to it being a waste to use a marine for it. There probably should be a divide between serfs that are failed aspirants and serfs by bloodline.

Also they are probably far better equipped and trained than the average imperial guard just due to how important their job is in comparison.
Pretty much depends on Chapter. The Spess Wolves treat their serfs as valued support personnel, probably because you can't have a fleet their size without hordes of serfs to crew and maintain it all, but if you're a serf in the Marines Malevolent you're only around until you're of more use as a brain wired into a rocket as a guidance system and launched towards the enemy.

I don't think the Black Templars have many serfs, and the Salamanders serfs are too busy trying to avoid choking to death on fumes whenever its mealtime thanks to all the hot peppers and airborne capsaican.

Sergeant Majoris Valdric is the head officrt of the Black Templars' warrior-serfs. So, the Black Templars at least have them. How many? Don't know.

You can only ever field a max of 3 units of any particular 'datasheet'.

So for example with Guard cavalry you could run 3 squads of 5 to 10 man Atillan Rough Riders, and also run 3 squads of 5 to 10 man Death Riders in the same army.

Please also bear in mind that right now army building is very flexible and you could run 6 fast attack units without penalty, but in 6 months or so that is likely to change.

Casual lists can run whatever, tournament lists have to abide by the rule of three, anything in between check with your opponent.

A shame there's never been a MechWarrior style Titan game...Titan's are sorely underused in the vidyagame world...

Lore wise, aren't Imperial/Chaos Knights extremely rare antiques? Would a mechwarrior style game even make sense?

Titans, not Knights. Titans are produced. Though their crewed nature makes MW-style less sensical.

I just googled "40k titan" and it's only showing me Knights. Am I missing something?
