It's worse than that. VTM 5th tried to fetishize the shit even worse than previous editions(and there was some wehraboo on the staff as well that inserted a bunch of weird german shit into the books), with the result being so bad that the whole thing got handed off to Renegade Studios to scrub and re-release it a couple of years ago. Even the older versions, there was still a lot of weird implied shit in the books, and of course the RP/LARP crowd always took it a step too far into deviant shit. That's not exactly an easy sell for a parent that their kid might be interested in compared to most of the other stuff on the market. Combine that with the RP heavy political stuff and you've got a niche within a niche, with another niche theme thrown on top of it. Even if you tried to balance out the RP aspects with combat encounters, the shit always either stagnated since there was basically a soft cap for power due to the generation/diablerie thing or you ignored it and the shit got off the rails broken quicker than a 15th level D&D 3.5 game.
God, I'm reminded of this one Vamp game, where the GM decided to shove Werewolf, Changeling, Hunter, Mage and I think Wraith into one fuckin' game (basically allowing each player to be a character from those specific books) and that shit fell apart super fast.

You know, at the very least GW brought back the Squats before it imploded. Other than that, the lore rape is real.

Is that the release where they tried to hamfist the Chechen gay concentration camps into it and got White Wolf shut down?

That being said, one short story in a codex 3 people will buy
Did you just wake up from a 30 year coma or is your pattern recognition damaged beyond repair by the the Talmudic vision box?
This is not one short story in a codex this is the sign that the plague is festering beyond saving within Games Workshop and that they plan to ruin 40k in the near future.

The old stuff is still enjoyable but any future releases will be gradually more shit until it's only an empty husk.

Why not be willing to create those alternatives yourselves?
Seems like a million dollar idea.
Anyone with the drive to capitalize on this right now and size the opportunity to shill on the girftoshpere when the next big "woke" release by GW hits can make serious bank.
Considering the option of 3D printing the key thing would be to provide lore and designs.

Creating a legally distinct totalitarian space fascist fighting space demons world actually sounds fun.

I think its less pozzed and more that Vampire is a hard bitch to sell. With CP, you got neon lights, cybernetics, cool actions scenes an retrowave stuff. Cthulhu you got that horror of the unknown and dark gods, D&D is going on adventures an etc. What does Vampire have? Its pretty much a very heavy roleplay political thriller, good luck selling that to the average viewer.
I recommend looking at the Vampire thread here. You cannot fathom how bad it is, legitimately Captain Planet level writing. Besides that, Robotech is called Trannytech for a reason. DnD and Pathfinder rape their own lore and axed shit like half races. Board Games are horrifically woke. You basically have very little options besides maybe some coomer Japanese board games.

Oh I know, I tried playing 5E Vampire. I kinda already saw problems when they removed the combat and turned into a Rock-Paper-Scissors when it came to using powers.

I can’t believe I don’t remember its name but there was an autistic alternative 40K universe that a bunch of people tried to make but it fell apart due to infighting and autism.

Funny thing Yarrick was implied to be gay.
Don’t care, if he was then he’s a banana-cramer written properly, where it’s not their personality and there’s more to them than “suck cock, suck cock, suck cock” Yarrick was an inspiration to warriors of two species, how many 40k characters can make that claim?

“No matters where you are, whetha its a quarter-miles away ors alfway round da galaxy, you always be wit me and yous always gonna be my brotha.”

Maybe? I don't remember all of the details for vtm 5th because of how ridiculous the entire thing was. I haven't seen what Renegade did to clean it up, but the fact that it even needed to happen shows just how fucking degenerate it was. It isn't like Hasbro that re-released Curse of Strahd a 2nd time for 5e because they wanted to remove gypsies from it or some other dumb shit. I got over VTM real fast in the late 90s when I realized it was mostly just a bunch of improv theater nerds and former highschool theater kids faffing about.

The problem there is that for things to actually gain traction, players need a place to play(unless you want to make something VTT specific and just play it in tabletop sim or whatever). The lack of support from Privateer Press is the main reason that company has fallen apart. Can't get product onto shelves that stores can actually sell, when they haven't sold everything to their tiny playerbase, they don't have product to sell to stores. If a store can't make a profit, they aren't going to bother hosting events for it, let alone demo games or putting up displays. This is why OPR can't break out beyond the small circles it has, because no LGS has anything to gain by even acknowledging that it exists when they could be trying to sell a half dozen other games instead.

If somebody really wanted to start up and get past these hurdles, a VTT that embraces 3d printing licenses attached to the VTT would be the way to go. Want to play your army? You can do so either over the official client, or in person with the same army without being charged twice for it.

Lets be real, all of the kvetching going on in this thread isn't going to stop any of you purchasing the new plastic crack GW put out. I'm also going to put my cards on the table, I like 40k for the lore, only, I'm not artistic or autistic enough to play the tabletop.

That being said, one short story in a codex 3 people will buy then upload the rules for everyone else... It's not going to get me disinterested in the lore not when I've read (listened to in audiobook format) nearly 100 40k books at this point.

One short story isn't enough to put me off from the setting. Especially when they did it with so little fanfare.
That's kind of the beauty of boycotting Games Workshop. Every single product they make can be pirated or purchased at a significant discount from a 3rd party. Animated series, novels, rulebooks, models, terrain, etc. You're right when you say the autists will never stop playing, but they could never give another penny to GW and it wouldn't have to change their gaming experience at all, unless you attend sanctioned tournaments.

Hasbro had a somewhat similar problem with D&D that led to a huge dip in their rulebook sales. The problem with the business model is that 95% of what they're selling is information which can be copied and distributed at will. You don't have the same investment into miniatures with D&D that you do with Warhammer, but 3d printing and grey markets pick up that slack. Yes, 8/10 people in the hobby are not well suited to start 3d printing their own shit, but that's where Russian/Chinese recasters and Ebay/Etsy comes in. Just because you aren't willing to put in hundreds of hours to get good at printing doesn't mean someone else won't and sell you the product for a fraction of what GW is asking. Even then, if you have a group of IRL friends that you play with, there's a good chance that someone would be willing to pick up printing and will supply their group for the cost of materials.

The only GW consumers that are really fucked are the hard copy collectors. If you have to rely on a webstore bot or paying a scalper 300% for a piece of literature to scratch your hobbyist itch, you're still going to be stuck giving GW (scalpers) money.

If anyone gives them money because they only use Citadel products, then they're already too retarded to save from themselves.

Not really. You're still attaching yet another hobby(3d printing) onto an existing hobby. Also relying on word of mouth, people having a computer that isn't a potato to run the VTT, and in person unless you've got a college club you need a space willing to dedicate space to play.

OPR already has people making models that can be bought online or 3d printed(so no revenue for an LGS)
OPR already has VTT support in tabletop sim https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=2855405275
Tabletop sim as annoying as it is, can run on a potato of a computer, so OPR has that going for it as well

And at this point it's been around for years and shilled at one point or another by a fairly broad selection of people on youtube(painting channels, GW hate channels, batrep channels, etc.), yet still hasn't taken off.

Hell, even recasts from some resellers are plenty good enough to pass the sniff test(a TO walking by at an official event) so long as there isn't someone involved trying to shill their own recasts and pointing out some non obvious flaws a couple sellers have(this happened in spain at the tournament a year or two back where the "austrian painter" guy attended, that event was far more of a shit show than some people reported). It's not like some GW staffer is weighing your models, scratching the bottoms, etc. Unless you've got a mini that should be in metal, but is instead much lighter in resin(and most of the stuff that old isn't even meta anyway for a big tournament event) no one is going to notice. I've asked a couple friends to spot the recasts in my own armies, they can't do it or point to a dumpy looking model that's actually a GW product(finecast.. fucking awful). If people can't spot the shit(unless you're showing up with it unpainted making it obvious, which people have done and then whined about being called out for it) no one is going to know unless you tell them.

During one stream, one of their guys let it slip by accident, how they didnt like the series becomin too serious and they knew theit fans wouldnt have been happy if they went back to comedy, so the GW shit was a perfect exit for them AND to.keep that Patreon cash.
Wow, that's just sad. Imagine giving up such a popular thing because "it's too serious" even though it really wasn't. Not to mention Hunter: The Parenting having that mix of seriousness and comedy that they could've just done with TTS. Not to mention that Hunter is arguably more serious so what are they on?
However because SODAZ was korean he had a moronic fanbase that started sending him death threats for becoming a GW employee or whatever, so he just dropped everything and walked away.
Now that is news to me, well not the (totally legitimate) death threats but him actually being hired. I missed most of it so thanks for catching me up to speed.
Alfabusa was a fucking liar who wanted an "out" without pissing off his community as he didn't want to do the warhammer animations anymore. His production had gotten down to an episode a year for the last 3-4 years. They tried to do an RPG and that failed. The book reviews took just as much work and that failed too. When GW made their post bitching about using trademarked shit and never did anything, Alfabusa took that as his out to be able to just come up with whatever halfassed art he wanted rather than needing to cut out old GW images and mess with them for the "animations". He was making damn near $20,000 a month on patreon(still is) for producing fuck all and didn't want to lose that so went for the pity route. You'll notice this absolutely didn't stop FlashGitz from doing their black templar/furry shit, however they switched to the space king thing because without it involving GWs IP at all monetizing it means there's zero issue. And other people have done animations of 40k stuff since Alfabusa quit without issue or mention from GW as well.
Jesus Christ, well I certainly lost all respect I had for him. Praise be to space king. Also I did mention "other people have done animations of 40k stuff since Alfabusa quit without issue or mention from GW as well" a few posts ago, the "ultimatum" that GW gave was all hot air.
but I don't get hating ones thst do just want to hang out with men but don't do anything egregious
Me either to be frank, they're rare so I assume people just lump them all together as "femoids trying to steal my hobby" or something.
Why not be willing to create those alternatives yourselves?
Sadly as much as I'm sure a lot of us want to, that's a bridge too far. I can write, but I can't draw, I doubt my ability to make a functional tabletop game, and on and on. We can collectively work together but real life responsibilities on top of that...it sucks making excuses but that's just how it goes. Then again if that faggot Guardbro can make something then maybe it's not that hard.

Problem is, every time a 40K boycott is announced, it amounts to nothing at all. The next box set comes out, it's sold out within a matter of weeks, GW laughs all the way to the bank, and the boycott ends up being a farce. This time isn't likely to be any different. This isn't like Star Wars where the fans let the Solo movie bomb because The Last Jedi put a bad taste in their mouths; I've heard time and again that the fans are universally mad at GW's shenanigans, and that they will boycott GW for raping the lore, or for jacking up the price tag on plastic toys, then I check GW's website, and the newest box sets are sold out in weeks, meaning that not only did GW sell at a profit, they had a really good fiscal year, to the point where their products are so in demand they couldn't keep up with it.

The fact that these people are so comfortable setting their plastic toy products at such high prices goes to show that the demand is high. And they're not reacting to this ''fan backlash'' at all; no lowering prices, no attempts at meeting the fans halfway, it means that GW is confident that the consumers will buy their products, and buy in bulk. And why wouldn't they? It happened before, it'll happen again. The fans will cry to high heaven and say ''this is such an unforgivable offense, we'll never buy anything from GW ever again!'' GW calls their bluff, and by month's end, the newest 40K product line is sold out in stores, online or physical, and the hoarders on Ebay are making a killing re-selling those model kits for twice or thrice the price GW sold them at.

That's how it works sometimes. You wanting a company to die doesn't magically make it happen and your only power over GW, or any company for that matter, is the money you decide to give them. When a company pisses you off for any reason, the only thing you can control if you. What other people do during a boycott shouldn't matter to you. Not everything you're a part of has to be some big, viral media spectacle. If they piss enough people off, then they'll feel it eventually, but the only satisfaction you should derive from participating in a boycott is depriving them of YOUR business.

If every person that hated this decision never gave GW a penny ever again, they will still go on being the biggest wargame on the planet. You don't have the individual power to change that, but you can have the discipline over how you spend your own money. Like I said earlier, I stopped giving GW money before I had been around long enough to know that female marines didn't exist. I boycott them because I'm not about to pay $100 for less than an ounce of fragile plastic that isn't rare and will eventually be obsolete. My boycott continues to be successful regardless of what happens to GW. I can't make them lose millions, but I can make them lose hundreds, and I'm pretty good at it.

I'm not even encouraging people to boycott. Spend your money however you want. I'm just going to make fun of your for defending/supporting this shit in the same way I make fun of the MTG simps that defend black Aragorn, or the same way I call my friends faggots when they bring over Budweiser products. I still drink the beer, but I'm not going to stop calling them faggots for it.

Sorry to interrupt tourist rage-fest. Nice cozy chat with John Blanche about what a pain it is to draw Space Marines.

Love his art of that Thunder Warrior with a Sarum-style CSM helmet. That man’s art does more for inspiration than any codex nowadays.

Looks like a cozy interview, put it in my watch later

Yeah it happened really quick in the span of a week or some shit. Since he wasn't a weirdo in the west, and how fucking insane asian fans of anything tend to be, I'd be surprised if it didn't happen.

Yeah I know you and some other people had mentioned other people doing animations with GW doing fuck all about it. What it really boils down to is being unable to print GW shit on t-shirts and whatever else and sell it as merch(which is what Flashgitz is doing with spaceking in addition to the patreon(11k paid members, lowest tier is $2, the math is pretty easy) but they actually produce content. Alfabusa, as much as I like some of the memes, and thought the series was going to shit when he did do an episode toward the end(due to the serious nature of the lame story, and wanting to get away from the comedy) kind of reminded me of Red vs Blue. Was funny and great to watch to start with, then tried to become "serious" and it went to shit.

The scalper thing cracks me up. GW sells a hardback book with a fancy cover, scalpers with bots can sell it for 3x the price on launch day, people gnash their teeth and whine, but then the scalpers sell out still. The prices on ebay for the special edition of the end and the death part 3 have gone UP since that was released(damn near $500 now instead of just 400). If the demand wasn't there, and idiot consumers weren't willing to pay up for bullshit, the scalpers would be left holding onto inventory. It was the same story with shit like people scalping playstation 5 systems, if morons weren't willing to pay 2-3x(or more) the cost, they wouldn't be scalping them. All the while GW knows how much the scalpers can charge, and doesn't increase their prices to match.

People were angry last week with the dropped AoS models. A few beastmen players came out of the woodwork to complain, most of the bitching wasn't from people who had even played against a beastmen army let alone owned one themselves.

Every time a new kill team comes out, it sells out, people bitch, people continue to buy.

The complaints and outrage over their stupid warhammer TV masterclass painting videos not showing the presenter's faces because they had been losing staff who could take an audience to their own youtube channel. In the end, GW did start filming faces later, but no one actually fucking cared because there are better painting tutorials all over youtube for free.

The big NDA controversy where GW had people they sent product to as cheap marketing were signing documents couldn't say they agreed to get free shit. Not only are NDAs nothing new, everyone already knew they existed, the complaining had no effect on GW.

The outrage over GW supposedly sending every fan animator a C&D. GW hasn't seen any impact.

Primaris... the company stock value has skyrocketed. People still complain about primaris, that complaining has accomplished nothing.

A couple idiots burned their WHFB armies on reddit and shit in protest of AoS. People still bitch about AoS. Now AoS sells, people play it, tournaments happen. No impact at all on GWs pocket.

Outrage about the Chapterhouse lawsuit. GW still doing just fine.

Before the leagues of votann thing, people were still complaining about what happened to squats decades later. GW didn't seem to care, and didn't have to.

I'm sure I could take the time to recall even more instances of people needing to boycott GW, it never fucking happens, and if anything GW rebounds with growth every damned time. The cost of freight shipping drastically increasing, the pandemic starting and ending, a global recession. These are the things that have major impact on GWs revenue, not some people here, on discord, on youtube, on dakkadakka, reddit, or anywhere else claiming they'll never buy a GW product again due to some controversy because the day of the week ended in a Y.

It's good stuff. He's less grumpy/fed up with Space Marines than I imagined. Sad to not hear his side of the story re: forcing the Perry twins to make the chaos dwarf hats as comically large as he wanted.
