Or Chaos isn't a thing. Of course it's fluff made to sell toys. That's no answer. It's just like any other fictional setting and set of characters created to sell toys, books, films &c. i.e. every work of fiction ever created in the history of humanity.
Canon and lore are just fancy words for the setting, the history. In modern terms, the IP. If you don't have coherent/consistent canon/lore you have nothing. More importantly you have no reason for customers to buy into the product if what you buy into today can cease to exist tomorrow.

tl;dr: Chaos fanboy writes beloved order character and messes him up for no reason other than to justify his faction.
It's kind of hard to exactly point out one thing, but what I always thought was he literally would go to crazy lengths and grasp the furthest straws to make the Emperor look like a sociopathic asshole who caused all the problems of the Heresy. Now some people would confuse that for character building, but the problem with ADB is he's a Chaos fanboy. He literally said before that Chaos will eventually win in 40K. The biggest enemy in the first few Heresy books was Erebus, and by extension, the forces of Chaos that corrupted his soul and led to the Heresy kicking off.
But according to ADB, the Emperor was a shitty dad who constantly fucked up and made mistakes almost out of character and caused everything bad. Is Emps perfect? No. But ADB wrote him to commit such basic and inexplicable errors that seemed less about telling the story as to fuck up what we knew about the Emperor. It got to the point that people on /tg/ and elsewhere would dread the news of him writing anything involving Emps. When the first Siege of Terra was announced and the authors were being revealed, my friend and I thanked God that ADB was nowhere near anything important.

Thing is, every other sci-fi has a lore that has its own canon. Gundam 0083 Stardust Memory and Gundam 08th MS Team are part of the Universal Century Gundam canon. Dark Empire and Force Unleashed are part of the Legends/Star Wars Expanded Universe canon. Transformers War for Cybertron, Fall of Cybertron, and Transformers Prime are part of the Transformers Aligned Continuity. Star Fox 64, Adventures, and Assault are part of the Star Fox canon. Even media that has talking animals designed for kids to consume has a canon. Warhammer does not.
To answer your question, yes, they could decide one day that the Horus Heresy was just revisionist propaganda written by the Imperium or some other faction to justify something. Or that Chaos is just a part of something greater that is misunderstood. That is why 40K has no canon; they want to make retcons easy, and they don't like being held responsible to a canon. That's why the Female Custodes update doesn't really surprise me, since unlike every Youtube grifter who threw their two cents into the matter, who act like this change is akin to saying that Moses and Saint Paul from the Bible were women, I know for a fact that unlike the Bible and damn near every other sci-fi out there, Warhammer 40K has no canon for its lore, and GW openly stated it multiple times.
The people who buy the actual minis don't give a flying shit about lore or canon. 40K lore has been retconned and upended multiple times; first during third edition, then during the Primaris update, now this. This isn't new. Seasoned 40K veterans who actually paint/assemble armies and play the game know for a fact that the lore is just fluff made to sell toys, and that it doesn't matter in the end. And the whales never cared about lore anyways; they just want to buy, paint, and play. The people who buy these minifigs in bulk are like those children who buy and play the Pokemon trading card game without knowing who the hell Ash Ketchum is, and why he has that Pikachu.
The division between the actual players of the game and the fans of the lore is well-established; it's up to the point where most of the serious lorefans for 40K out there have not played a game for over a decade.
Again, it's good for clickbait and nerd rage, so of course these people would be talking to each other about the Warhammer Fem-Custodes debacle. Then they'll soon discover the truth when the next 40K box set sells out and scalpers start selling it at markup prices. These boycotts are about as useful as wet toilet paper.

People sperged about Primaris marines but the minis are pretty cool so most of the outrage went pretty quickly.
I’ve been in and out the hobby since picking up the OG Rogue Trader rule book as a kid, so I know no canon exists and they are prone to reconning even recent retcons but it’s different this time.
We know why they’ve done this. These’s no cool minis. No kick arse book coming out.
They’ve done this to placate trannies and to spit at a good chunk of the fandom.
That’s the reason why.
No ESG conspiracy theories. They’ll have one or two people in Nottingham who have spent too much time on Reddit, started on HRT, and have poisoned the place to dunk on chuds whilst their dresses go spinny.
There is no smart business decision behind this. It’s easy to blame Blackrock but Blackrock don’t write the lore. This self sabotage happens with or without ESG money, and that money has been drying up for quite a while.
TL;DR don’t hire troons or gender specials

Exactly. They looked cool, had better stats, so nobody gave a shit that they broke the lore in half just to force Space Marine players to re-buy their armies to keep up with the meta.
Most importantly, they did this because they can get a fat stack of Blackrock money. Plus, the people who get offended by this change haven't bought or played the game for years. So losing them isn't going to hurt GW's bottom line, when most whales don't give a rip about the lore anyways, and veteran players know not to get too attached to a lore that keeps changing because there is no canon.
LOL the writers who work in GW wanted this for years. GW suits told them no, for the longest time, until Blackrock convinced them otherwise.
Given the fact that the Primaris broke the lore and yet GW had one of its most profitable years when the Primaris came out, it's clear that raping the lore does nothing against their bottom line. 3rd Edition practically changed the 40K universe as we knew it, and it got more popular and sold better. The Primaris Marines broke Space Marine lore, yet GW's stock surged in those years and 40K broke into the mainstream. Now, they add female Custodes, which was something the authors have been pining for, and they don't even have to wait to get paid; they get ESG money right off the bat.
GW's lore rape has done nothing but bring in good business. Which means they have no reason to stop now.

Huh. So... none of the Chaos Gods would be willing to ally with the woketards. That's actually all pretty interesting; makes me wonder if there are any actual factions in Warhammer - either 40K of Fantasy - that the woke would even fit with.
I will say, it does bring a hilarious mental image of a bunch of troons and furries trying to summon one of the Gods to fight the "facists", only to get betrayed and eaten/obliterated.

Yeah, the precon makes the walkers do a lot of the heavy lifting as well. The mission for game one was holding ground so she just had to stick around and try to hold her ground with objectives. I didn’t get to watch most of it because I had my own game. I forgot how squishy most of my units were so my repentia and flagellants were steamrolled even though they were generously throwing wounds.
