I like the whole “ancient civilizations/space races that had crazy advanced technology before humans were spacefaring” thing, that’s also what I find interesting about Halo lore
So... how to put this...

"No" would basically be the answer. About as in depth as you'll get is Infinite and Divine, which is a novel about Necrons that takes place over the span of a fairly long timeframe(it's actually pretty decent) but even most of that is still within the normal 40k timeline(so 30k and onward). There's probably some eldar books that cover a bit of pre-human history as well, but this is basically a topic that is rarely touched on in the setting. Let me see if I can make this make some sense with a super basic timeline.

65 million years ago, Necrons aren't necrons yet, get into a fight with the old ones, old ones create the krorks and eldar, this is The War in Heaven(which kinda results in the immaterium getting fucked up and becoming what we know of the warp today)
roughly 60 million years ago necrons win and take a nap to wait out the eldar and eventually dying off
krorks devolve into orks, eldar become total fucking degenerates

This now a massive gap that basically GW barely acknowledges
10k-25k you've got the dark age of technology where humans were all over and progressing and super smart and had super weapons that could tear holes in reality, obliterate planets, blah blah. AI(the men of Iron) go on a rampage and rebel against humans, shit gets fucked. This war is covered in maybe 300 words of text spread across 30 years of writing with shitloads of speculation. There's a very short story about a dark age ship and it's AI being embarassed about what humanity has become, killing a bunch of people who board it, and so on. There's a robot that is supposedly a man of iron with regard to some necromunda lore, but they never do much with it. Ollanius Person and John Grammaticus pop up here and there in a couple of books and make incredibly vague references to this timeframe but it's never anything "confirmed".

25-29k is the age of strife where humans across the stars are all cut off. This is referenced a handful of times. But there isn't enough talked about to fill a chapter of a book.

very early 30k, slaanesh is born due to the degenerate eldar murder fucking themselves
Then basically everything fast forwards to around the year 30k with the founding of the imperium(the Valdor novel covers this)
The emperor launches his crusade to unite all of humanity across the stars again
You get the entire Horus Heresy series
Then there's The Scouring(eliminated chaos forces). Almost nothing covers this yet, as The Siege of Terra only just recently finished.
32k, war of the beast happens where an ork basically evolves back into a krork. There is a series covering this, to be honest it's kind of stupid.
36k, the age of apostasy where the church takes over, gets beaten down, and we get sisters of battle. I don't recall a novel about this? There is a short story, and some blurbs in codexes, but not much. If you look up an age of apostasy lore video, you'll get basically the entirety of it.
then there's 40k where 99% of shit is actually written about.
42k is where the timeline currently is with primarchs coming back, the indomitus crusade, 4th tyrannic war, etc.

GW doesn't entirely ignore the massive gap between roughly 60 million years prior, and 30k, but it's rarely discussed. Some of the early Horus Heresy books go into some human offshoots(like the Interex) but of the few even brought up most are simply named and not even described. If you do read The Infinite and Divine, and actually like the necrons, then I would suggest Twice Dead King after that(2 part series, plus there's another short story... I think it's called Severed) but the tone of TDK is entirely different than IAD. There are some eldar books but the problem there is they largely only exist regarding post slaanesh eldar, which are way under powered compared to what they used to be, they're a dying race, they get their asses kicked constantly, at least a couple of their book series have been cancelled before being concluded., and so on.

Basically, you've asked about the one thing GW pretty much refuses to cover.

It tanked because they tried to make it cross platform before Sony and Microsoft accepted that as a thing. I'm pretty sure sony bitched and moaned until fortnite made it the norm but by then it was too late.

Perfectly balanced. Even more so when you use flash bangs to counter all of the above.

I was able to get out of that using area effect attacks on them.

Rogue trader is excellent and I hope the dlc is good and successful. Sucks there isn't much class roleplay but otherwise the choices between being moral and being imperial is legit interesting. Chaos can kiss my ass.

Also on the subject of a potential 40k horror game. Something in the vain of eternal darkness would be absolutely incredible. Playing a traitor marine before he falls to chaos. picking which demon he falls in league with and them playing various poor bastards throughout history fighting him and his warband would be great. You could have a sister of battle main protagonist that views visions of the other characters.
That’s what I’m saying, an Eye of Terror game would be great.
I accidentally watched 6 hours of warhammer lore videos and now I want to get into the books. Not sure the games are for me. Where do I start, should I just pick up from the beginning?
Find a faction you like, pirate a pre-ninth edition codex and start reading. Afterwards you’ll know where to go.

Like the Imperium/CSM? HH initial trilogy is your best starting point for the Heresy. Horus Rising, False Gods and Galaxy in Flames are the best introduction to 30k.

Like the Night Lords? Remember to pat @AncientPhosphur on the head and look into the Night Lords trilogy.

Like the Tau? Drink bleach

While I agree that the first three Horus Heresy books are prolly the place to start for those interested in 30k, I could never actually recommend Horus Rising. The first fith of the book is the most self indulgent, ham fisted foreshadowing done by Dan that it feels like he's jerking himself off while screaming "HORUS KILLS THE EMPEROR!". Frankly I found it so annoying I couldn't actually finish it.

The red farsight tau that broke away and became its own enclave are pretty interesting. One of the few unambiguously good factions in the setting and they don't treat their human auxiliaries like second class citizens.

good everyone should hate those people they have the worst fan base in counseling insists that their greater good is somehow something to strive for screw your communist totalitarian state I would rather fight for the authoritarian autocratic theocracy with medieval characteristics

You ever watch interviews with the guy he seems like the type of person if you criticized any of his terrible writing decisions he would throw a hissy fit.
Don't forget that he had to pull the war machine children out of his ass for ghosts because he forgot he wrote one of the kids was actually not a girl.

Oh it's much sillier than that. She's got a pair of OF accounts as well. hobbyafterdark and hobbyafterdarkvip for the "premium" content with supposedly 800 paid members on the "VIP" account where you can find such quality content as

Jesus Christ, I didn't need to see that.

I feel bad talking shit about a woman's appearance, because y'know, who the fuck am I? Body beautiful? But you could literally throw a brick in the street and hit a better looking woman than Angela. It makes me a bit sad that she feels she has to engage in that sort of thing, to be honest. That shit has a very short viable shelf-life, but stays on the Internet for-fucking-ever and is only going to limit her as a content creator. Her videos would be way more appealing and have a much wider audience without it. She's seen not, as she believes, as a Warhammer YouTuber who also happens to have an OnlyFans, she's an OnlyFans thot who also paints Warhammer.

She's already had drama and missed out on opportunities because people don't want to work with an OnlyFans thot (and I can't honestly say I blame them!), but in her retarded libfemmy brain, that's everybody else's fault for being judgmental and 'whorephobic'.

It sets women in the scene back a long way, and I think, honestly, it's disrespectful to the men in the scene as well, to a degree, assuming that they'd fall over themselves to see some mid looking woman's nudes just because she likes the same nerdy hobbies as them. That she has 800 simps on OnlyFans is depressing and should be a cause of embarrassment to the community, to be honest.

In any case, sorry to once again turn this into the 'Warhammer YouTubers tea spilling thread', gang (only not really sorry, because to be honest, that's one of the things I enjoy the most about this thread!), but I hear whispered rumours that everybody's favourite, Guy from Midwinter Minis was sniffing around Louise Sugden from Rogue Hobbies, presumably with an eye to 'hire' her for his channel like he 'hired' that ghastly Hatty woman.

However, apparently Guy got too excited and gave the game away when he made some creepy comments about Louise on Twitter and she decided to stay the fuck away from him. I can't say I especially like Louise, but I wouldn't wish Guy on her.

I was discussing it with @p1138 last night, and I don't know how true any of it is, so take it with a pinch of salt, but given what we already know about Guy, I can't say it seems out of character. Huge if true.

He did make this rather odd video after Louise left Games Workshop, where he and Hatty drive all the way to Nottingham to meet her, and which opens with Guy in bed, thinking about Louise, apparently while naked and alone, which seems really weird, given what I'm hearing now.

Watching it back, another element of that particular video that sticks out for me is Hatty. Aside from her leaning into the selfie at the end to soyface, she seems a bit mardy the whole time we see her on camera, doesn't she? Hiding behind her sunglasses, "Oh, for God's sake..." I notice she's not dressed up in corpse paint like Guy and doesn't take part in the weird bit he does, giving her the cake. She used to work at Warhammer World, the same as Louise, so they probably have history with eachother. No doubt she's thinking, "Oh no. Louise is a bit prettier than I am and the bloke I'm shagging, who gave me this job specifically because I'm shagging him, seems very keen to make a video with her. I think that's my YouTube painting career buggered."

She's presumably the one holding the camera, right? Do you think that was her idea or Guy's? Odd that for someone who we're told is very much a part of the channel, she wouldn't be a part of this weird 'sketch' and would instead be relegated to the sidelines doing skivvy work, while Guy slimes around, trying to monkeybranch onto the next potential notch on his bedpost.

Jesus Christ, I didn't need to see that.
You were warned.

Meh? She puts herself out there, and assuming she's not retarded she knows people are going to make a judgement call based on what she looks like. Supermodel? No. But considering she worked at a game store previously in Berkeley of all places, she probably was a 7 in that store compared to the danger haired feminist weirdos. And she actually does put the work in to stay in shape. I've seen far far worse on sites where camwhores and OF thots and shit end up with their stuff archived. At a minimum she's in the top 50%. What I find more pathetic is that her coomerbait thumbnails on her youtube channel don't seem to get her more than 10k views most of the time. Now the reason for that is likely the same reason many other mini painting channels openly complain about not being able to do something without featuring a GW product, it simply doesn't bring in the views and she posts a lot of videos about non warhammer shit(at least recently). And of course she'll hit a wall eventually, won't have a real career to fall back on, and will blame people for their discrimination against sex workers(a lot of e-thots claim to be sex workers as if they're actually doing the same shit as real prostitutes and having to deal with the same things).

Honestly, I'm not entirely sure it does. Granted, I knew about her because yes, I clicked on the coomerbait youtube thumbnails, and she's mention her OF shit many times in videos(haven't actually watched her shit at all until the stupid drama videos popped up recently and I was morbidly curious). But she's barely in "the scene" or any scene. SHe's done painting videos, hasn't taken off(she's not a horrible painter but isn't amazing either). Does videos about board games and they haven't taken off, covers GW gameplay related content like codices and shit and hasn't taken off. DId a stupid black library advent calendar series thing and couldn't get 1k a video. Now her oldest content(only 4 years ago because she started her channel during the covid lockdown shit) did poorly by comparison and she figured out how to get 2-10k views a video regularly. But she hasn't had any growth beyond that in 3 years even though people know who she is.

She's already had drama and missed out on opportunities because people don't want to work with an OnlyFans thot (and I can't honestly say I blame them!), but in her retarded libfemmy brain, that's everybody else's fault for being judgmental and 'whorephobic'.
Honestly given what I've said above, I don't think it made a difference except for that one wrestling tabletop game thing she didn't get invited back to. And if that's what she thinks stunted her career? That's practically the same shit as LordKat bitching about Spoony yelling like a moron at e3 as if that was what killed his interview with the minecraft guy and ruined his career. Her issue with youtube is that she hasn't stuck to one thing and gotten significantly better at it over time. Her content is all over the damned place.

Is she playing 40k, going to tournaments, filming batreps, etc? No? Then wtf would anyone watch her content about what she thinks about a codex or some units rules?
Is she winning painting awards even locally? Doesn't seem like it. I can get tons of painting tutorials for techniques and shit elsewhere.
Is she doing some kind of terrain, or kitbashing, or sculpting thing? No, not really.

Lets just look at her recent videos. Hobby desk, who cares? Something about another youtube person, don't care. Painting some bloodbowl minis, ok. Tour of the room her desk is in, I'm not sure how the hell that got 32k views. Space marine 2 intro level, whoopdeedoo. drama video. 40k try not to laugh challenge, fuck off. Reaction to a killteam trailer, no one cares. Plays some MTG, that's weird. Pack openings for an anime TCG, weird. Talking about MTG cards, no one cares. Magnetizing bases using UV resin instead of a few doze other ways... why? I don't need to keep going, her channel is as unfocused as a typical local game store, but the difference is it's easier to go to another youtube channel for the shit you're interested in. Getting back to my point, if she actually got significantly better at something in the past 4 years, and stuck with it instead of having her channel be all over the place, she's likely have a larger audience AND people still wanting to collab with her regardless of also being an OF thot.

Jesus Christ, I didn't need to see that.

I feel bad talking shit about a woman's appearance, because y'know, who the fuck am I? Body beautiful? But you could literally throw a brick in the street and hit a better looking woman than Angela.
She's no 10/10 but she's about the best a nerd could hope to meet in a hobby store at MTG night or whatever so she seems attainable to them. It's all quite genius really.

Night Lords trilogy is a really good and well done antihero book despite it being written by that cunt ABD who did everything he could to get Femstodes in which was the final straw for me. Eisenhorn and Gaunt’s Ghosts are also solid trilogy books that are more normie friendly for entry I always recommend. The HH also has a neat thing where there’s a few select must read books for the central story and then you can jump off into whatever you’re interested in before going to the siege of Terra. Horus Rising, False Gods, Galaxy in Flames, and Flight of the Eisenstein are 4 must reads before you jump off and read around. Know No Fear, Legion, Burning of Prospero, Venegeful Spirit are great books but you kind of need a good grasp of the setting before you head in before the siege. Also don’t be too worried about not having read the full HH series or 40k stuff. You’ll spend more on books than full tabletop armies. (Pirate anyway fuck GW and their greedy asses)

And to dive into recent tabletop stuff has anyone seen the new Kill Team pricing? Just insane. $70 for Kommandos which only have a year of the tourney scene and the only thing they added was the tokens in the box which you don’t really need. GW really just going full Jew mode in pricing. They also wiped many KTs off their site.

I’m glad I snagged the Legionary team when I did. That scarred grinning face I’m using for “Ascended” Kor Phaeron.

You should be able to still get them off Amazon, eBay, and other third party sites but this

Just criminal.

Also Kor had some decent scenes in Know No Fear. Lot of people shit on Ultramarines for being poster boys but that book really put them in their own light that makes it a great read I didn’t expect.

Favorite scene was how the carnage was so massive and grim with Ultramarines covered so thickly in the blood of their companions and Word Bearers they were able to ambush Word Bearers because they thought the blood soaked Ultramarines were painted their colors

I'd add Fulgrim to this. And all the books are available on Audible.

It’s no big deal, those heads/parts are so individualized I couldn’t imagine using multiples in an army. Those parts should’ve been in the kit when it debuted back in 2019 though. Biggest loss in the CSM update was the loss of individualized parts.

Kor is fun, he Anakin’d Lorgar and never once gets punishment for his crimes. Even Erebus got punishment by way of Horus’s knife. Kor got a heart ripped out but then goes on to discover Sicarus and take it over, then slew any witnesses to a Chaos prophecy that said they could pretty much win the war if he sacrificed himself then and there. All while instructing Marduk. Plus he’s got that Darth Bane face paint, which is an awesome look for an evil sorcerer.

Try Dawn of War 1 + its expansions. It's what got me into the franchise in the first place.

Humblebundle is doing one of their infrequent Black Library bundles of books right now, and this might be of interest.
Just go to audiobook Bay for some reason there's this marine who will literally put up any black library book and he's been doing it for the better part of nine years now actually DM with the guy occasionally he's funny don't pay for anything from GW

Pity they serve the Dark Gods though.
