Very much so. The "push button, get mini" crowd are extra special. Its as heavy a time investment as painting.
I don't know about that, I could print minis a hell of a lot faster than I can paint. But yeah, it's definitely not "press button get mini" from the moment you open the box.

3D printing attracts a weird group in this hobby who are rabid anti-gw, anti-gw customers and have 0 understanding of IP law.

I bought a bambu printer (which I recommend to everyone btw) that is super noob friendly and incredibly easy to use. So far printed a bunch of hobby accessories and bases. Printer is fdm, not resin and I got some serious quality. I'll do terrain soon too. Notice how these dont necessarily breach IP law and lets me customise my experience?

But, and I say this as respectfully as I can, you are a fucking idiot to buy a resin printer just to print minis for an army, especially if you think youre beating GW by doing so.
Thinking about this, they're like the Linux community in a way. Not that the Linux community is retarded in the same sense, rather they both have a very loud vocal minority of idiots that never bother to mention the downsides, problems, and time required to actually do shit.

3 particular youtube channels come to mind with this shit.
Fauxhammer. The guy doesn't fucking do anything but shill printers. He's either just sell them off, throwing them out, or has a graveyard of chinese bullshit sitting around taking up space. His videos are also generally fucking awful, he knows fuck all about 3d printing and will use the same b-roll shots of him pouring resin or making faces into the camera while pointing at the printer 5 times within the same 10 minute video.

Once in a Six Side. The guy prints shit, doesn't actually do anything else." Stop using auto supports" "Auto supports are great now!" It hasn't even been 6 months, make up your fucking mind. At least he does some basic paint jobs on the occasional unit he prints out?

Battle Brother Sam. This retard is the worst. Seems like 1/4 of his videos are just dedicated to printing titans. Uses dumb girl math to equate buying a $600 printer into "savings", acting like 3 days to print an FDM leman russ is somehow reasonable, etc. Here's an example of what I mean.

Looking at how many prints this guy had to do, that were 8-16 hour jobs, with repeated failures, just to get one fucking leman russ which still looks like shit even with a .2mm nozzle and still wants to pretend 3d printing is perfect? Come on.

@p1138

That last example irks me so much for some reason. 3d printing is a hobby/skill in of itself. It seems like hes just lazy (and stupid). And for what, a shit tank?

Learn about printer settings. Learn to print in pieces and glue. Learn about car primers.

Jfc its just slop content

I really don't see the issue here. I feel like we're being petty for the sake of it. Watching the whole video no where is he trying to claim that this is some money saving technique. He's trying to see if it's even possible to print a tank this way. Even at the end he admits that whatever increase in quality he got from playing with the new nozzle wasn't really worth it. Yeah the failed parts do look like shit, but if I'm fucking around or trying to print some custom model from online this is probably worth it to somebody. Might save someone else some headache who wants to print. A bit of green stuff could fill in some of the gaps, and if you really want to get rid of mold lines, you're going to have to suck it up and sand it down. I don't know where you're getting the impression that this guy is trying to tell people that 3d printing is perfect when your example is him showing all the flaws with it.

Do yall be using your transfers these are putting me in a conniption trying to get them completely flat on my pauldrons. also do people really be making entire armies for chapters that don't have a codex/models out of chaos marines? Does someone run around with a 2000pt Alpha Legion themed chaos army? Would be interesting but wow it sounds like a lot of work/kitbashing

Best thing I read was to paint Primaris as Alpha Legion and when you walk into a game, just say theyre X loyalist legion.

Very Alpha Legion.

Nothing about saving money. That's his other videos

That doesn't change that spending half a week or more to print one fucking Leman Russ that still looks like shit, is ridiculous.

Yes. Just use the rules from the codex and paint them however you want. For loyalists it's easy enough to call them a successor chapter, for chaos it would just be a splinter war band.
Does someone run around with a 2000pt Alpha Legion themed chaos army?
Yep, people do that. 2000 points isn't much though, since that leaves you with an army with no variation to mix anything up between your games, and if a balance update changes points now you're over or short and no longer have a 2000 point army. The concept of "this is my 2000 point army and that's it" is flawed and isn't realistic. 2500-3000, sure that's an army where you'll be able to swap things out as needed or as you feel like for a 2000 point list.
Would be interesting but wow it sounds like a lot of work/kitbashing
Doesn't have to be. You're just using CSM units, and CSM detachments that are just painted different. In the case of alpha legion, you could even use the excuse of loyalist minis painted as a loyalist legion and then do something like this as a paintjob for your characters and vehicles and just stick some 3d printed bits on as appropriate

To get the most out of this hobby, you put in the work and you kitbash and you SUFFAH putting on five transfers onto one guy.

I only watched the one video. Not going to go through his whole catalog so maybe he's a bit more preachy elsewhere. Personally I think it looks fine, for an FDM printed tank that is. Yeah half a week is a long time for a print but to be fair I have models that have gone unassembled and unpainted for far longer, so in the grand scheme of things I guess he's still faster than me at least. Is it dumb, yeah, but if you see it as a hobby rather than is this efficient then I don't see the issue. I guess I don't see the harm in it either if someone wants to waste a week test printing a lemon until they get it just right. I'm usually a negative nancy but this just doesn't seem worth getting my panties twisted.
Do yall be using your transfers
Not personally. Partly out of laziness, mostly out of the T'au transfer sheets only come in red which messes with my color scheme. Why the are they not a neutral color like black?!

, but if you see it as a hobby rather than is this efficient then I don't see the issue.
Like I said, there's a bunch of the cringe money savings bullshit all over his channel. The $75 titan, the $15 titan, use 1kg of resin and print $1000 worth of minis type shit. It's all slop.

You could just find a high quality image, clean it up, and then print them in black.

I got metal Grimgore and a whole bunch of orcs and goblins for very cheap, can't wait to have my next game of 6th edition. Looking forward to bringing my nigga Grimgore and DA IMORTALS (his personal bodyguard) to bare against my homies.
All the Aids of Queermar Chaos dwarfs look like fucking shit other than the HQ mounted bull, but the actual mount is the only good thing about it, the model on top looks like nigger cattle slop. If you need a fix for chaos dwarfs, I highly recommend kings of war Abyssal Dwarfs their sculpts are much more faithful to real chaos dwarfs. I also recommend kings of war for anyone that hates the shit pile that is the old world if you can't find a WHFB 6th or any other WHFB classic clubs/groups.

ERE WE GO LADZ! KILL EM ALL WAAAGH!!!

As someone that loves 3D printing random shit, I hate this crowd so much. When I started out people acted like it was the easiest thing in the world and would then refuse to tell you anything if you needed help figuring out issues. I don't regret getting into 3D printing, but boy do I wish I could have slapped some people through the internet when I was dealing with the earlier resin printer nerds.

How would I do that? Do you just need special paper and can print it at home? Or would I need to find a special printer for it?
Yeah just get the appropriate waterslide transfer paper for an inkjet or laser printer and run off a sheet as a test print. It's expensive as fuck compared to normal printer paper, 20 pack of 8.5x11 for $10-15, but it's definitely doable. The problem is you'll need to do some research to find the better sheets as the thickness and transparency(some of them are white background instead of transparent but they should all label this properly) of them can vary and you probably don't want to try 5 different packs just to test that, scale model forums would be the place to start.

An alternative would be getting a custom sheet made from a place that does nail decal stencils, and then just stamping it on. basically like that goblin hobbies "stampin plates" thing that goobertown came up with, you can find places online that can make the steel plate for you since they basically just cut your design out with a cricut and etch the plate, or just etch it directly with a laser. Here's an example of a place that does it for $30(they've got a separate SKU for additional copies of the same plate for $6 each) https://www.mundodeunas.com/products/custom-stamping-plate

There's also some nail art shops that'll do custom waterslides as well for you, women go crazy with this shit sometimes getting full on fucking van gogh paintings as nail art, it's ridiculous but the point is if it can go on some woman's fingernails, it can go on a space marine pauldron or equivalent, and it won't have the miniature hobby "tax" because that stuff is more mainstream than mini painting.

I have taken more time and made another custom chapter for the Deathwatch RPG. This time the Nemesis Chapter: the grim sons of Ultramar dedicated to destroying their enemies to the last through the most extreme of armaments. Enjoy, and as always feel free to throw some feedback my way.
Why won't the subject of the RP, GS, Wrath and glory is complete and utter shit? So is Imperial Maladictum. Say what you will about the Fantasy Flight Games, but at least they captured the essence of 40K. Also, for some reason I keep getting. Convinced to play navigators in Rogue Trader? My God I've had to write so many goddamn Navigator characters.
Do any of yall like AoS at all? some of the minis for it are really cool imo, and the spearhead boxes seem like a good deal for 20-25 minis especially if you play an army of chaos faction in either. Could buy tzeentch spearhead and use tzaangors and screamers from it. Not enough of an interest in AoS to do that, but it's intriguing. Soulblight gravelords are cool too but i'm playing a vampire counts campaign in total war rn so maybe it's all recency bias.
Here we see we do not talk about Age of Smegmore. If you like Age of Sigmoid, kill yourself now.

I believe "There is Only War" is the cover of the rulebook, or used in the color pages or something. I definitely recognize it from the 8E rulebook...
Only war is my jam. It is the ship. Is probably one of the best Fantasy Flight RPGS. However, I'll say 1 thing defensive should not exist and why the fuck is the finesse? Why the fuck can you not dodge if you're good at finesse? Fucking retarded ass dodging system. Even though fucking everyone needs to dodge. If you don't have fucking dodge, just fucking Die.

Also, throwing an Oakland at the enemy with psychic powers would never not be funny as well as the common saw if he was not good at commanding anyone and solution to everything is just charging at a chaotic space moving with an eviscerator.

If someone who spent some time in school to be an engineer but never finished a degree, I'll fucking tell you using CAD properly and 3D printing is actually very difficult. I know, because my school had one a really fancy, greedy victor. Like you think these fucking nigger Tier 3D printers are fancy now you've never seen one that's at an engineering college. We have the fanciest 3D printers, and yes, one of my professors did use it to print warhammer and figurines. That nigger was the boss of that.

Hey what sorta brand of super glue do you guys use primarily? I just got into the hobby and im having issues of putting my necrons together and the glue I'm using (gorilla) keeps melting them. Sorry for the retarded question.

If they're plastic, use plastic glue like Tamiya Extra Thin rather than superglue. For resin, I tend to just use the cheapest CA glues available, although there's something to be said for Loctite and black hobby taxed glues that make spillage clearer for debonder.

If you like Age of Sigmoid, kill yourself now.
you talk like a fag and your shit's all retarded.
brand of super glue
I went to hobby lobby and grabbed some plastic glue, specific brand was "testors liquid cement for plastic". Cheap and effective. Gives me time to reposition things like arms while applying it. I've dropped a little guy or two and was half expecting him to blow up like a lego, but nah.

Hey what sorta brand of super glue do you guys use primarily?

For plastic, Tamiya extra thin plastic cement. Once the first bottle gets down to about half, turn that into sprue goo, get a new bottle. Plastic cement is a solvent, will melt the surfaces and actually bond them together.

For resin/metal or if I've broken something and I need to fix it immediately, loctite gel control. Only in very sparing circumstances do I use thin superglue for anything.

If I have to pin something normal, brass rod/paperclips/whatever with milliput or greenstuff packed into the holes with the pins, but the joint is still just superglue.

I just got into the hobby and im having issues of putting my necrons together and the glue I'm using (gorilla) keeps melting them.
It's about using the right tool for the job. How gorilla glue is melting plastic, that's a new one for me. Are you using gorilla superglue, or the plain original urethane based brown liquid stuff like this?
