Wait until you see discussion about Trench Crusade.

Space Marines are smart and they figured this all out long ago – enlisting Assault Terminators for those days when you need a real blender in close combat.

And now they’re back. black.

Those actually look pretty decent, Terminators are one of my favourite kits and that Crux Terminatus box is just Terminator heaven.

The main thing keeping me away from Space Marines is that I'm not a fan of Ultramarines and every other codex compliant chapter is just worse, I really wish they'd give them all a stronger identity and reason to play them.

8th had really good rules for homebrew chapters but that got nuked when 9th came along.

It just seems like a lot. If you get this box you basically never need terminators again, and terminators are in half the value boxes anyway. Terminators are also, I think, one of the most popular types of Space Marine, which for me means that not a lot of people get a lot of value out of this box. Especially considering you got half the box in the 10th edition start box anyway. Ill be surprised if this is a hot ticket item. I mean, its going to sell out because of scalpers, but idk if real people would want to snatch this up like that.

Got to reconnect with one of my frat brothers at a wedding who's abt to move to NY to be a fucking secret service agent. Anyways I took a wild guess and he ended up showing me his 7000pt tau collection as well as some Necron and catachan stuff he printed himself. Claimed that a lot of glowies love 40k, and I could believe that. Was odd

Goddamn my local store sucks cock. Even the other game stores I went to yesterday sucked. I know I don't live in a happenin area where this shit is popular but man, you'd think these people would try harder than a bare-ass concrete box with half empty shelves and dust on everything.
But the buddy I went with seemed to have a magical time. It was his first go at any sort of hobby store and he was like a kid in a candy store looking at what was available. Was pretty fun watching him figure out what faction he wanted to dip his toes into. Recommended he just snag a codex of whoever looked cool and go from there.

He started out drawn to AoS stuff, Soulblight particularly, then started getting pulled into 40K Chaos while looking at their terminators. But then he noticed the Dark Angels and it was joever. He took one look at the Lion's figure and immediately grabbed their codex and the Son of The Forest book. And he snagged some AoS book about an epic important war or some such, too, but idk much about fantasy.

Honestly how big is homebrewing as far as the actual game goes? I'm sure it's alive and well when it comes to just building and painting, but I get the feeling that it's always been much more popular to just play one of the established factions and make what tweaks you can get away with there.

I currently only have the push-fit Terminator squad and captain from one of the starter sets, plus the new Lysander, so this is actually a pretty decent box for me. Darnath is going to look good leading these guys.

10th fixed that eliminating the subfaction locked rules shit that 9th pulled.

You want generic codex compliant marines? Paint and decal them however you want, and then use whichever of the detachment rules you want. That's it. Want to make your own blood angels successor chapter or whatever from one of the snowflake marine chapters(BA, SW, DA, etc.) paint your shit however you want, pick a detachment.
The only things you can't do are take snowflake marine characters and units(Dante, Sanquinary Guard, etc.) and use a codex compliant detachment. However this does mean if you're taking codex compliant space marines but not any of the named chapter locked characters(calgar, vulkan hestan, etc.) you can still just pick a BA/BT/DA/whatever detachment

So you can homebrew basically whatever you want. Same shit applies to eldar, dark eldar, necrons, orks etc.(with the non space marine factions, even the named characters are irrelevant to the detachment rules because they don't have snowflake subfactions other than ynnari and harlequins but that's a whole other mess anyway) Paint how you want, pick the rules that suit your army.

The one thing this doesn't work with is chaos space marines and their snowflake legions. Want to make a generic CSM warband that's tied to night lords or alpha legion, but uses different colors go right ahead. The problem is with the mono-god legions, you're locked to using their codex only(unlike the loyalist snowflake chapters). So you can't run deathguard rules while using a bunch of generic CSM units(that don't have a codex entry for the monogod legion you're trying to play).

Difference is Fantasy is still Warhammer, whereas Trench Crusade is just gay and forced.
Some of it is neat as a setting but the lore is just… ugh when you dive into it.
Oh yeah, 40k is the big dog for a reason. I just find Malekith’s comically terrible private life very funny.

Go on a worldly adventure, come back home and find out your mom is on that tinder pleasure cult, spiral hard and end up Darth Vader’d by the insane chain of events that your insane BPD mom engineered to groom you into being a replacement for your dad.

Then she kills his actual love because mama knows best and that whore was filling his head with nonsense.

I've got enough other stuff to keep me busy for a while anyway so I almost certainly won't buy this box.

Depending on what the 11th edition launch box looks like, that will likely be my first foray into Space Marines.

Termie box looks good. Probably the most you'll need, definitely if you grab the IF Combat Patrol alongside it. Not sure which chapter likes them lore-wise besides DA (who get unique ones anyway).

I'd buy but I'm going to show restraint for once. Dont have a clear plan for them.

Most chapters equip their first companies as much as they can with terminators. Terminator armor is kinda too rare in the 40k setting for a chapter to be "really" into them. Outside of exceptions like minotaurs and Grey knights
