Knight progress.

I opted for a pink colour scheme for one I regret it. I originally wanted pink and white, or maybe pink and purple, but needing 5 or more coats to get a smooth pink is a nightmare. I ended up going pink and silver with no fancy stuff just to make it easier on myself. It also turns out I missed two microscopic little doodads under the legs. Might just leave them off as they're not really needed? It's not glued yet, so I can add them, I've just painted over the contact points already.

I'm thinking of downloading all the combat patrol rules, just in case the new edition comes out by the time my friend has painted his minis and all the lists are gone.

Combat Patrols and Proxy Guard

My friend is going SM and Space Wolf. As much as I like SM, IG, Knights, and Sisters, I'm tempted to go xenos just so it's not imperium v imperium all the time. This led to me looking at combat patrols as combat patrols and not discount boxes. eg. I'm tempted by Tau, Vottan, and even Genestealer Cults. I'm not really passionate about them.

This led me down another rabbit hole. I could build most of a guard combat patrol from my existing proxy guard collection, This was the old guard combat patrol. The new ones are all horses. The rules still exist however. Even building from scratch. I could get away with the combat patrol for about £50, all that would be missing would be a sentinel. The kits are proxy vostroian too. Using my existing collection, all I need is a Sentinel and field guns. They might be a mess aesthetically.

Are Tau Hammerheads still a thing? Asking because I saw a box for one and it was the old style box.

If it's the little piston things at the hip joints, they're barely visible when they're in place once the armor panels are on it and even then you basically need to be looking at it from an angle upward from below the thing to see them and they definitely aren't structural if you actually glue the hip joints properly. If it's the little soda can things on the calves could leave 'em off and it's not like anyone would care but the gap might look a little awkward.

Picked up a pair of my own on black friday that I've got primed and in sub-assembly currently. Might post some in progress pics later if I get around to starting to block the colors in today.

Yes, do this. I don't believe Wahapedia has actually uploaded all of the combat patrols from WD but you may as well have the PDFs for everything in a folder since it doesn't take up much space and it doesn't sound like you're interesting in playing "big 40k" if it's not playable with the same combat patrols once 11th comes out. If it does come out and the combat patrols are the same, then no big deal.

They're still in the codex and for sale, so should be. Isn't it just a devilfish with an extra sprue for the turret? If it's not a GW store, it's probably just old inventory collecting dust. If it's a GW store then they were probably lazy and didn't send them back to get re-boxed for 9th edition.

What kind of pink are you after? If its a very vibrant, hot pink, then go Vallejo Bold Titanium White > yellow (of your choice, this will greatly affect the hue of Pink) > then your pink. Works for me every time.

I would strongly advise getting an airbrush if you're working on a knight though, its not needed but itll make the process bareable and you can get a full setup for like 100$ thats reasonably good for base coating at the very least.

I sure hope you plan on posting pictures at some point… a pink color scheme sounds pretty dope

I recommend this, upgraded my armigers from trash to pretty nice. I don’t own one myself, but I borrow one from a buddy and theirs is from temu and it actually works pretty well. Only thing I’ve ever heard temu being good for.

GW take 1 step forward but 2 back with the new EC detachment.

They finally made Fulgrim useable by fixing a terrain and base size issue BUT they lock it behind a singular detachment and -1 CP ability when using 1 of 2 strategems (which could be used on others) instead of just moving the ability to his data sheet.

A move in the right direction but still...

It's a pastel pink, but I'll try that. Thanks.

Can't, for various reasons. Been using markers and the results are nice so far.

Will do. Just don't expect much. I can get some now, but it's just a pile of bits. Got the thermal lance, chainsword, face, and crotch plate to do and then I can start assembling.

Yeah, it's those, and what I suspected. I'll try to add them, but might just leave them off.

it doesn't sound like you're interesting in playing "big 40k"
Correct. I wouldn't mind a huge game, but we don't really have the space for a full board, the money for 2000pt armies, and the time for a full 3-4 hour game. It's part of the reason I went all in on Kill Team, K47, and am tempted by Spearhead and One Page Rules. But I get why he thinks combat patrol is a way out for him. There's enough units running around to feel like a real 40k game, not a skirmish game. And it has an "official 40k-ness" that he seems to care about for some reason.

I also don't mind the smaller size, as it reminds me of the days of 3rd where we played what appears to be 750-1000pts these days. A few units, and a vehicle or two on a 3 or 4 foot square table.

So what does that makes every single damn Space Marine Sergeant? Its a rare one that doesn't ask their squad for input. Hell, the IG codex specifically allows lower-ranked units to issue orders to higher-ranked ones by claiming its tactical advice. Even in the IG the only regiments that wouldn't do something like that are the Mordians, Krieg, and maybe the Valhallans. Even the notoriously well-drilled and well-disciplined Cadians get a little rough when they're actually in the field.
People are shocked at the Imperial Guard functions like an actual military. Clearly these people have never actually picked up a Black library book.
Like others have said, requires friends willing to put in the time to play it but the grind to actually unlock and upgrade shit is ridiculous and it isn't likely if you can convince a group to play it, that you'll actually stick with it very long because there just isn't that much to do.

Russianbadger and his pals making memes out of it makes the game look far more entertaining than it actually is.

On a completely different topic, the new GW video making fun of so many ultramarines releases would actually be kind of funny if it weren't just to sell merch.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=b9BUxAvehPw
These people really don't get it. Ultramarines aren't hated because they get so many releases, though. Hated because they're fucking boring and everyone's fucking tired of Gilliam. Girly man is undefeatable. Girly man is rebuilding the Imperium. Girly man is the most boring of all the prime likes.

No, it really is just the volume of releases and seeing the literal poster boys of the company at this point being blue space marines. They aren't even a non codex compliant chapter and just got as many updates and coming releases as one.

Boring sure. Rebuilding, not really. Undefeatable?

This is what I mean when I talk about people who don't pay attention to lore. Girlyman just got his fucking shit wrecked and basically lost an entire fleet in a book while having to run away with the assistance of the eldar and a webway portal or he'd have just been flat out killed(which isn't going to happen). Even ignoring that recent bit, he still got his ass kicked in Dark Imperium and only "won" because the emperor took remote control of him after Mortarion pretty much killed his ass. On top of that, this is the same guy that lost to Fulgrim in a duel and had to be put on ice for a few millennia, after showing up late to the siege of terra because his legion got their shit pushed in by a vastly smaller force of word bearers at Calth. Undefeatable? If anything he's got the most losses.

edit: Hell, what even is Guilliman's biggest win? Sure isn't when khorne daemons invaded Terra. He wasn't able to purge the high lords of Terra without the direct assistance of Trajan Valoris and the grandmaster of the officio assassinorum. Curze only got stopped because he wanted to be when an assassin was sent after him, but otherwise he was able to successfully terrorize macragge by himself during imperium secundus. Guilliman's biggest win that comes to mind was when he saved Rogal Dorn's dumb ass who got baited by Perturabo to go siege a fortress that the fists would have been wiped out(and kinda were) due to sheer attrition and Dorn being a stubborn idiot.

edit: And furthering my point about ultramarine fatigue, they could have chosen any chapter for their new animated short, and still managed to pick ultramarines.

Era of Ruin special edition is going back on sale as a print-on-demand run.

Congrats, GW, you finally figured out the best way to beat the scalpers about a decade after the rest of us.
Fucking took 'em long enough. Hopefully this will be enough of a success to signal to them that they can go back and do this for a bunch of the previous shit people wanted the better covers for and didn't care about the author's signature. Or even just switching to print-on-demand in general, because there's no reason not to at this point since 90% of their books have been out of print for ages and it's literally just free money left on the table.

They should do. Make on demand for certain older models, or hell if they get enough pre orders, make even lesser known guard regiments. I would pay at least 200 bucks for a steamsuit from the Confederates. I have one, but it would cost me way too much.
Also never get why GW doesn't have a thing that LEGO has where you could sell services. And we sell models. Why not take a cut of the people doing paint? Of models. Just seems to make sense. But then again, GW seems to be run by literally glue eating retards.

It just so happens all of the competition is run by even more incompetent idiots, which is really saying something.

Make on demand for certain older models,
They already do that every few months with their made to order program. They've even done it with Steel Legion Valhallans, and Vostroyans in the past few years. Of course every time they do this, people bitch and complain that the prices aren't the same as they used to be, as if GW would charge the same MSRP as they did 20 years ago to drag out some old molds and cast some models. And then on top of that they take 6 months to ship. Just buy from a recaster.

Just go third party. GW is never going to do this.

You mean BrickLink? The thing Lego bought in 2019 and has been shitting up since by cutting off dozens of countries from buying or selling through it? After purging data from the part database to hide mis-casts and other minor variations(and removing the ability to buy/sell those parts)? And then pricing their own pick-a-brick service to out-compete the bricklink sellers for common orders of regularly stocked parts, while taking a cut of the specialized parts sales for product they don't want to keep in inventory? I don't think you could have cited a worse example of a company buying up a service that was basically community created, and the enshittification of it.
Why not take a cut of the people doing paint? Of models. Just seems to make sense. But then again, GW seems to be run by literally glue eating retards.
A commission painting service? Why would anyone who can paint worth a crap doing commission painting bother to sign on with GW to lose a cut? Some of them do act as GW retailers, but not many. Even if a painter lost 5% to GW, that would just eat into material cost that should have been factored into the price already. And then of course GW would have to manage this. Larger commission painting companies are not hard to find, neither are individual painters. Aside from general sites like Fiverr, there's also coolminiornot where you can find artists, and puttyandpaint even has an artists for hire section with their galleries visible. Plus, GW being involved would mean artists likely couldn't include anything but GW sculpts in any sort of online portfolio anyway.

The notorious Arch Warhammer (Arch/The ArchCast) released a rather potentially controversial video on content creators.

1.mp4

In short he says that other Youtubers are performing a dereliction of duty by not calling out GW when it mixes modern-day "progressive" politics into 40k.
he hyped this up as the truth NVKE of the year but it mostly boils down to him complaining about how he wants to start a “warhammer gate”

He goes on complaining about criticism over Nu lore is not enough he needs valrak or baldermort to scream race war now and say all lore is bad now since it has black space marines. As both baldermort and valrak have aired criticism over nu lore but don’t go radical enough with it. He even links primaris marines existing because GW went woke with the lore? Cmon give me a break primaris exist because it’s woke lore for real? Like is he incapable of thinking shareholder greed is why primaris exist

So odd, I don’t know why he’s crashing out this hard now.

He's an idiot.

His views are have fallen off a cliff with no sign of increasing, he's unwilling to change anything to possibly widen his audience, probably thinks because he's one of the earlier lore channels he should rightfully get the views he's entitled to, and he's probably still got Sargon whispering into his ear. Also consider he's probably what, in his late 30s by this point? With basically no other career prospects.
