I bet if they were smart about production and shipping they could drop that down to at least $45, but everyone at GW are lazy, stupid and greedy.

If GW weren’t lazy sacks of shit they’d simply open another production facility in the UK and outsource printing of books to a UK based printing company.

No delays on mini’s ala the recent video (due to trade deals) and it would actually reduce cost in the long run. They don’t even have to open the new sight outside of Nottingham I bet there are plenty warehouses sitting empty in the Midlands.

They have an office in Austin Texas so I'm sure they can set up a warehouse there and do any printings/ casting in the States. They already are willing to fly people down to Texas for two weeks for management training even for people in Canada.
 
GW recently jacked up the prices for paint by around 40-50 cents here, so it's $6.40 and $11.50 for a base/layer and shade paint, respectively.

Every FLGS I've gone to doesn't like the Price Jacking, nor do the regulars, especially the Chaos guys.

Of course not. Contrary to popular belief most normal 40k players aren't paypigs. FLGS hate it because people will either A) Go third party. B) Go second hand. C) Go the recast route. or D) Say fuck it and just not get new stuff. I love the new chaos casts, but there's no way I'm paying half the price of a Baneblade kit for 10 CSM. I'll go to a good recaster if I really want to get into it.

It seems the only way to reasonably get into 40k new is to get a box set and trade the half you don't want for more stuff second hand. That starts to fall apart if there's no box set for the faction you want to play.

Yeah, it seemed like for a while GW was shaping up, mostly in the form of excellent Start Collecting boxes. But when a box of Chaos Marines is only marginally less expensive than the Start Collecting CSM box, there's a problem.
 
Apparently an Indonesian muslim furry was trying to take down meme pages by joining them, spamming porn, and then reporting them to Facebook. So, a lot of 40k groups are going secret since he had a bunch of furry followers doing the same thing.

Yep, sure. That's why imperial guard still have old ass models and the cost still gets bumped up.

It costs pharmaceutical companies billions of dollars to develop a new drug, and the patent on those drugs only lasts seven years. It costs Games-Workshop around $25k at most to develop a new model, and they milk that shit for decades. So why can I get a month's worth of cancer drugs for a $10 co-pay but have to spend upwards of $40 to buy a two inch plastic soldier?

Then don't forget there's Forge World who charges insane prices for old ass molds that you then get the pleasure of fixing up yourself.
 
There is absolutely no reason a Primaris Chaplain should cost $35. Contrast that with the Hell Pit Abomination which is only (!) $58 and is a much larger showpiece for an army.

I feel wary typing this, because if GW isn't already aware of this discrepancy, their solution will be to raise the HPA to at least $80.
 
I been assuming for a couple years(cause I don't follow the tech that closely) that 3D printers are going to get to the point before too long that will eat GW's asshole alive.

I've heard they've been making stuff like Girlyman very intricate because of chinese duplicators, but I got to imagine before too long you'll have /tg/ speds uploading their dream models that you can print out for a quarter of the price.

Now it's not even China. Russian recasters are putting out some absolutely flawless recasts. One of them will even take old OOP shit and remaster it (looking at you, FW). The only downside being they cost the most, so it's only really good for rare OOP stuff.
 
I've thought about resin-casting some SM parts like the stuff from the Upgrade kits. I want sculpted pauldrons for my marines as well as the extra details, but I'm not paying $50 for two because GW only includes 9 pauldrons per pack.
(6 normal, 3 Aggressors.)

EDIT: Upgrade kit correction.

I’ve been impressed by Russiancasts. Sometimes they’re even better than the originals. Chinacasts not so much.

This is a recaster in Europe (specifically not Russia), and a pack of 5 of these are $13 and that's on the more expensive side for recasts.

A pack of 10 of those guys are $60 from GW.

Have an apothecary for $12:

If GW's pricing wasn't already criminal enough, I've even heard that they defrauded the UK government somehow. I'll try to find the video where this is talked about and edit it into this comment.
