Speaking of subtlety, how much research do people put in when playing the game? Because I legit facepalmed at this.
Was this guy legit incompetent? I know GW nerfed assault a bit in 8th -- it's a lot harder to roll up an army with a pack of assault units now -- but I wonder if he was running 'too much infantry, not enough armor'. I was making that mistake for a while, and while it's sorta survivable with Necrons, it's damn near suicide with Guard.

Thats one of the things I really like about 40k is how believable different space marines attitudes are towards humans. If you've been born into a heavily Militaristic, Religious civilization and all through your teenage years you're told that you're chosen by god himself and that you're a fearless unstoppable death dealing angel.
But now most marines become euphoric upon being recruited, completely overriding their belief system, world view, and socialization in a magical instant.

Kinda sounds like it, given that his response to seeing Tyberos and a squad of lightning claw Terminators was apparently "I MUST FIGHT THAT IN MELEE" instead of pointing some heavy weapons or just a shitload of lasguns at them. I'm also curious what his army composition was, though.

What was the rest of your list like? I have a small Carcharodons army myself and I'm always curious how other people play them.

Yeah, my response to seeing an oncoming SM assault charge would be to hose the fuckers down with enough green lightning that the survivors go find someone else to bother.

Although Necrons do have some surprisingly effective close-combat specialists. Canoptek Wraiths, for example, are a hell of a lot more dangerous than you'd expect and can tarpit or fall back as needed -- just in time for the Doomsday Ark or Heavy Destroyers to start taking shots.

Especially if it's Tyberos. He's goddamn terrifying in assault and melee, even more so if you back him with some lightning claw or TH/SS Terminators. I like to call it the "sharky ball of haterape".

The new Chaos Knights (as in mounted Chaos Warriors, not giant robots) look great.

The one on the left looks especially nice.

All the new Slaves to Darkness models look amazing, and I thought the originals still looked really good. The story may still be in shambles, but the quality of their models has been very consistently stellar recently.

I never actually played the game, I just pulled it from a thread that I was reading. But with that said, that guy was asking to get raped if you're sending Guardswomen into melee against the 1st Company of Space Marines. Why not just spoon-feed the Tyranids while you're at it?

Yeah, no, anyone who looks at this model
and says "Yes, I would like to fight that guy in melee" is kind of a fucking idiot.

its really the only reponse, the whole point of genestealer cults is it only takes a single genestealer to fuck over your entire planet

might not happen straight away, but given enough time the cult if undetected will eventually take over.

really i think most imperial repsonses are going to be glass the entire population, unless its somewhere important like a forgeworld its definitely not worth the risk

Even with a Forgeworld, just send in Space Marines and exterminatus that bitch the old fashioned way. But before the conflict is declared over, order a regiment of Death Corps deployed to the planet and just turn them all into servitors to run the factories. Krieg won't miss them, and neither will anyone else.

dammit, iv got him lying about somewhere aswell as asterion and a few boxes of different mark space marines, may as well have a small graveyard.
'Cries in poorfag'.

Holy crap, the new Sisters (and accompanying Arco-flagellant) look glorious.

This Seraphim might be my favorite Imperial model ever.

I wish we could get some chapter specific CSM heroes like we've gotten for most of the SM factions recently.

Well, they've already got characters for the Black Legion (Abaddon, Haarken Worldclaimer), Emperor's Children (Lucius, Fabius Bile), Thousand Sons (Magnus, Ahriman), Death Guard (Mortarion, Typhus, Nauseous Rotbone, Scribbus Wretch), Red Corsairs (Huron Blackheart), World Eaters (Kharn) plus unnamed Iron Warriors Warsmith and Night Lords Chaos Lord models. All they really have to fill out at this point are the Word Bearers and the Alpha Legion.

I don't know if any other faction besides Word Bearers that has such a looming lore presence but only marginal game presence. Traitor Guardsmen, I guess?

Traitor Guard are arguably more of a presence than Lorgar's boys at this point, tbh, since they got all those shiny new models in the Blackstone Fortress expansions. Word Bearers do have some bitchin' models for Horus Heresy, but otherwise you're right.

So what are the odds that we'll get a new Baneblade variant?

I mean, the galaxy has been torn a new asshole, the Imperium of Mankind have essentially been cut in half, and Robert Girlyman would probably give the Imperial Guard a new toy to play with even though the Tech-Priests will lose their shit over it.

The Word Bearers could use Erebus' HH mini as a stand-in Dark Apostle. I don't know what Kor Phaeron could be used for HQ-wise, except for a Chaos Termie Lord.

That said, they probably might get something new in the Psychic Awakening.

The whole 'Faith and Fury' description gives me hope.

I have a weird relationship with my Word Bearers, in that I love them but my army looks like shit. I fell in love with a brownish-red take on their armor, and have tried many ways to make it work, but nothing doing.
