Painting my Arkan Confederates has been a hoot. The diversity in hair color and the fact that I'm painting their pants as either gray or occasionally blue (based on some images of soldiers from Arkansas I found) breaks up the monotony. Once I get a whole squad of them ready, I might post pictures of my bad painting.

Are you going to get some Stormsuits and Thundersuits to go with your infantry?
Also, It's a shame we don't know what the Steamblood Zouaves look like (just info about the power armor they use). If their name is in reference to the Zouave units from the Civil War, then their uniforms should be similar to the Louisiana Tigers (not the football team):

Probably, if I can find a proper base model for them that doesn't tax my skills too much. Perhaps Servitors? Their suits are terribly inefficient, so the fact that they need to hang next to a Tech-priest sounds fitting.

How do you guys settle on paint schemes for your armies?

I just read up on all the major factions for my army (Spess Mehreens) and picked the one I liked best (Imperial Fists). Of course, if I'd known yellow was such a bitch to paint, I'd have probably gone with Salamanders or Raven Guard, but now I'm committed, so that's that. On the other hand, I'm still trying to figure out what to paint my Sisters. It's kind of a tough call.

Endless failures and retries, except for the rare cases I'm running a canonical army, such as my Deathskulls and Marines Malevolent.

I usually paint an official version since GW doesn't ever seem to fail in providing a paint scheme I like.
