Anyone mind helping a newbie out? I got into 40k through an ex boyfriend and have the beginnings of a Craftworld army, watched a few videos on lore and read a bit but I’d be interested in delving deeper into both lore and gameplay, and I’d also like to acquire some Space Wolves eventually.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xCGKPRiJp84 I’d start with this video as a primer, guy goes into all the playable factions. The key to enjoying this hobby is picking a faction you like and then going from there.

As far as writers go, anything by Graham McNeil, Dan Abnett and Sandy Mitchell is usually well worth a purchase. Aaron Demski-Bowden is more hit and miss, he’s an excellent writer when writing Chaos worshippers or Black Templars but the guy lets his personal issues shine through when writing loyalist factions.

For starters, I recommend getting the Space Wolves codex (I'd wait to see if GW puts out a 9th edition version, but that's just me).
The next part depends on what kind of player are you.
Are you a competitive player or are you playing for shiggles?
If it's the latter, I have looked at this channel for ideas on building my armies:

I hope he makes a thematic build list for the Space Wolves, but he may do it once 9th edition settles in.

One thing to add is that the Space Marines have a colossal range of miniatures. There are Space Marines and Primaris Space Marines. In the lore, the Primaris Marines are a recent addition; the result of a 10,000 year long project to enhance the genetics of the Space Marines. In game the changes are represented by and additional wound and melee attack per each primaris model. For the Space Wolves, their model range has some units that come with the Space Wolves thematic bits like runes and furs. The primaris ones (outside of one box) do not have those bits, so if you feel like your Wolves need extra flair, there is an upgrade kit you can buy.

Above all else, remember to have fun. 40K is a pretty great hobby (expensive AF, but there are ways around that), and collecting and painting and personalizing and playing your own army is a hell of a lot of fun.

Just for Archieve purpose:
Fluff Support.
Gamework shop cucked to radical left
arch lost his sponsorship with world of ships
arch changed his channel name from arch warhammer to arch-slow the deplatforming a little.
game workshop is ok nukeing the community to get people line use copyright as the excuse .

^This! Fucking this! 40K armies can be built a million different ways but the way you build is what’s important. A start collecting box is actually a great way to star and most are pretty good value.

On an unrelated matter regular raven wing bike squads are now obsolete

It was pretty much a given they would get the keyword though. I’m just gonna stick with land speeders and attack bikes.

Eh I’m leaning on the side of GW and World of Warships on this one. Arch is the only 40k youtuber that brings his politics into the hobby as a serious topic. The dude made a channel specifically for his political rants but that died within months.

Arch brought the controversy on himself. He is as toxic as the sigmarxism fucks. I am glad those two are engaging in an inept slap fight over the internet. It keeps them away from fucking with our hobby.
Maybe if Arch was starting to make troubles with other Youtubers then I'd agree, but he is relatively drama free, with the political edge being a once in 30 minutes jokes.
1. NornQueenAlexis a/k/a AlexisEgoQueen is a crazy tranny if halfway decently passing from certain angles. He feels like he can speak for women in gaming though.
Alexis might very well deserve her own thread here. She first appears in a RP session made by Arch, where she proceeded to be an insanely bad player, culminating with actually attacking her own party members during a hard battle that got her justifiably kicked out of the RP. This is where she got her hate-boner for Arch.

She also had a podcast with 40k theories and tactica imperialis where she was the absolute worst of the three. Grabbing the mic, parroting the same shitty memes and lines from the few books she did read. It doesn't help that the only thing she brought to the table was the current meta of the actual game, which the other two didn't really know or care about. She was unceremoniously kicked out of the podcast when, apperantly, Tactica Imperialis said shit about her and she took it hard, and 40k theories decided that she had to go.

On her private life she apperantly had a fiance before op who dumped her when she came out as trans. She lived with her parents until they kicked her out (she claims for being trans, I have my doubts and think it's rather because she wastes her time in an overly expensive hobby and dead-end Youtube channel, and refused to move out or do something with her life).

Last I heard of her she appeared for an episode of the podcast as a guest, saying she is more child-friendly channel, which raises concerns considering trannies track record with children.

It kind of makes you wonder why GW never made an movie, yet.
There was the CGI Ultramarines movie, which I rewatched recently. The voice acting is good (John Hurt apparently had a nephew who was into 40k or something and got him involved) and it's written by Dan "Based" Abnett. The CGI is a bit lackluster even for ten years ago, but it was quite enjoyable to revisit.

The soundtrack of the Ultramarines movie is pretty good for creating an atmosphere before the games start too. Kind of a shame the animation is Bionicles movie tier, it could've been cooler. 6/10 entertainment all in all.

It kind of makes you wonder why GW never made an movie, yet. Seriously, the voice-acting is exactly what you'd expect from both sides, with an touch of irony from the Imperium.
They have 2 animated shows in production.

I do remember some drama between him and Lutein09 over Dawn of War 3 a few years ago, but it really is the politics that hurt his reputation. He's the only big Warhammer Youtuber that brings up politics repeatedly. Everyone else keeps their politics private or outside of their videos. He could have practiced a modicum of restraint and put the sperging to the side but he didn't. A joke here and there is fine, but Arch has made his brand Warhammer and Conservative politics.

Also, if you have to make a 10 minute video to discuss if a Space Marine can be black, you deserve to be mocked for that stupidity.

You know, I watch his videos fairly regularly, and I simply don't remember him bringing politics up. Do you have an example?

As for the 10 minute Black Space Marine video... yes, actually. Given there are multiple instances in the lore of racial characteristics being overwritten by the Geneseed, 3 or 4 of which he covered in the video... it does take time to go through that stuff. Yes, a black human becoming a space marine isn't anything special. But the end result should have looked like an Ultramarine. And Ultramarines should look vaguely like Gulliman.

Or was what he should have done was immediately retreated from the woke position and ceded the point?

I started watching him in 2016 and one of the first videos I recall watching was him looking over the tweets of lolcows sperging over the 2016 election. He constantly has videos about the online culture war, whether that be Twitter's TOS, Vampire: The Masquerade V5's wokeness, that one female general in Total War: Rome 2. And as you mentioned, he brings up edgy political jokes or just edgy content in general. The ones that come to mind are him calling Gnoblars 'house niggers' and making a comment about the Tau being like Hillary Clinton (though that one was a while ago, it may have just be referring to them as communists).

I personally wouldn't care about the political affiliations of 40k youtubers, but I understand why GW would want to distance themselves from him. It's the same reason why they agreed that their recent statement of inclusiveness was generic. They want to focus on the hobby, anything outside of that should be disregarded.

On the topic of the geneseed, there is nothing in the geneseed that makes you look like your primarch. Otherwise it would be very easy to know the primarch of unknown founding chapters. If anything, it is a geneseed mutation, nothing more, nothing less.

Games Workshop being litigous cocksuckers is a throwback to early-mid 2000s era GW. They used to assrape web 1.0 fansites with cease & desist letters and were extremely aggressive. They turned over a new leaf recently and have been focusing on being a more community-style company, which is probably why they've adopted the CalArts marketing art and the corporate-progressive signalling style.

Going after Arch specifically sounds like it's some diversity hire intern (99% chance a white woman or a tranny) who runs the @WarComTeam twitter, which would be par for the course for noodle-spined pop culture companies.

I personally wouldn't be surprised if this the case.
I still find it very disturbing that Games Workshop would go out of their way to hound a fan and a customer of their products.
It reeks of Mark Waid levels of pettiness.
Anyways, Arch did put this rather optimistic (?) video out regarding the statements made by Wargaming:

I mean, sure, Wargaming did give Arch more evidence that someone in Games Workshop has a hate boner for him.
But, given what Arch says, it seems that any notion of tortious interference with an existing contract is out the window (prospective business contracts might still be on the stable). Arch did the promotion and it seems Wargaming already paid him.
