I have to say that with the space marine battle force box this time around, and the patrol boxes. GW is really coming off as desperately trying to move the phobos armored primaris. I know it might sound a bit crazy, but I honestly dont think that it will do that well. Even if there is an impulsor and invictor, those models just got bundled in other box sets with more popular units.

Now I want to ask, have anyone of you actually seen a space marine army with a heavy focus on phobos units? Im not talking online, I'm talking IRL. Ive only ever met one guy who did it as raven guard.

not really in person I run some Phobos not full Phobos. They have great shooting but almost no proper melee I play marines not Tau.

Reivers need AP on their knives and permanent objective denied.

Speaking of -- Indomitus might be in stock in your local stores, the FLGS got new ones here.

Mine had SIX. I was briefly considering, but it's a lot more to invest for a lot of units I'm not that into.

Why they wasted their time with the KO box is beyond me

ive seen plenty of aether wars boxes floating around and this ones just 2 of them minus the dirigible suit guy with a frigate and a special character replacing them (a special character locked to a specific port mind you)

this is also compunded by the fact that the gunhauler and the balloon boys are also in the start collecting box.

wouldnt be surprised if you see these ko boxes mouldering in hobby store back rooms for years to come.

Not gonna lie, I know nothing about Sigmar, but those balloon dwarfs seem rad.

I mean, I hope to see one on my table and painted in a few months, especially if you count an Invictus as a phobos-dread.

The guy who likes phobos armor can't even justify running a heavy phobos list.

This nigga

I mean fuck, if you really wanted shooting marines, everyone knows you would just run Imperial Fists and essentially play whatever you want that has a bolter.

That's all my Fists army is. Bolters, bolt pistols, heavy bolters, storm bolters, boltstorm gauntlets, and some more bolters, plus some Dreadnoughts because Dreadnoughts are the tits. The only Phobos unit I own is the librarian, and I only bought it because the model's fucking rad and I wanted to paint it.

It really just comes down to bloat, there are simply too many units in the space marines range to actually give a niche to all of them. The phobos range is just the most blatant of it. The gaping hole of phobos is so deep that running a pure astartes marine army is way WAY more viable then running something that is mostly phobos army. Like at this point I cant even spit ball new units for space marines that do not just sound like jokes OR are just refreshes of chapter specific things. Like the bunker is a bit of a stretch, and the turret with a techmarine army might as well be stolen from the guard.

Obviously they cant keep doing space marines on clockwork forever, and the double wammy of hyper heavy marine focus from 8th to 9th has really just tired both the consumer and GW themselves. When we inevitably hit the point where the space marine range is given a bit of a break, I can already see that in the down time they are just gonna try and force people to take these fucking things.

Stormcasts have been on a 2 year break currently but did trying to be space marines they didn’t quite get the same sales.

Is there a gameplay niche that can't be filled by a Space Marine list? it's getting a bit silly.
Hordes and glass cannon. I'd also throw in psyker-heavy lists as there are only two types of psykers (three if playing blood angels), outside of Grey Knights, which while are Space Marines, have a limited roster as compared to the main marine list.

Bend the knee inferior chapters.

Miniac is raffling off 4 community painted armies for charity, buy your ticket.

There was a leak floating around /tg/ for a few days. Ofc it could have been faked, but it looked very convincing.
Could be, I checked the Forge World Legends to see if there was a change to Disgustingly Resilient but all it says is that the rule is in the codex. So for now it is a 5+ but it could change. Considering most other Feel No Pain type saves are now at a 6+ that is certainly a possibility, but I feel like that 5+ FNP is what makes Nurgle units distinctive.

Those DRs are even more annoying then custodes saves.

I'm regards to the Phobos army, there is a decent chance I'm going to not get fully into play and these will just be put on display in a diorama.

So I'm trying to meta-game with units I like and fit a chapter I like. I probably also have poor choice cause the other army I'd like to build is Genestealer Cult, who I understand and see in matches are currently trash.

I go a lot off Auspex Tactics, and in my head a army of units that can get on points and hold on to them have good potential. Incursors/Infiltrators do that, they both have smokes, the mini apothecary gauntlet negates a would, I think every turn, prevents deep strike charges or gets in better position at start to rush on to points. Warlord trait gives me free deepstrike or reposition at start of the game for them, librarian let's them move another 6" at least, or makes them harder to target.

It could all not work in practical, but it seems like and I've heard 9th is much more play the objective than wipe the board and I've seen several matches where one side killed way more and was 30 points behind and literally couldn't score enough points to win the game. And that's what I'm going to try, a sneaky army of still durable Astartes that try to make themselves a bitch to take off points, with more killy units like Eliminators/sniper chapter Master, Invictus, and Outriders to try and hit the units that are the biggest threat to my boys holding the line.

Phobos Army List?
I'd do it for the Iron Snakes, Sons of Orar, Omega Marines, Emperor's Swords, Marines August, or Black Vipers chapters because of.... reasons.
Shhhhh.PNG

I typically see Phobos as the modern evolution of Scouts. You can run a full army of them but frankly I see them more a force multiplier outside of Reivers each Phobos unit offers IMMENSE support options. Infiltrators anti deep strike, Incursors with the mine and ignoring cover, Invictor Warsuits basically being AMBUSH dreadnoughts, and Phobos Captain/Elimintors being great sniper units for important elites/HQs. This is also combined with their fast objective grabbing playstyle. You can be both defensive and offensive with them the anti deep strike really fucks over so much people.

Though if I maybe get a nice work bonus 1 or 2 of those Phobos Battle Forces might tempt me to make a full phobos army I got plenty of Death Guard spray from working on Death Guard currently........

KO are rad, the are turbo capitalist low key sky pirate dwarfs.

As for phobos,

most marine armies ive seen floating around have aunit of infiltrators to complete secondaries in the mid field.
